Where to buy seat cushions for front seats?
Look for a place that installs leather seats...the shop near me that installs RoadWire Leather also repairs the seats (fixing the cushions).

Tranny overheat issue
Good morning folks...I have a 2001 with automatic tranny. It has (so I'm told) a DTT rebuild but the torque converter is just rebuilt stock converter.Truck runs perfectly fine until I put the plow on the front of the truck. First time it blew the tranny cooler line (again so I was told). We just got some plow-able snow. I did my driveway in am...no problem...drove 30 miles and parked it...4 hours later, drove 15 miles and started to do another driveway. Temps were not an issue when I started. On second swipe of driveway, trans temp shot up to 175...light came on dash...and O/D OFF light came on. I let it cool by running it in neutral. Tried to drive home and had to keep letting it cool. Can smell burnt tranny fluid but levels are fine.Called guy I bought it from to find out this happened to him as well, but he thought the shop fixed it.Any ideas...plows no good if I can't use it. Very frustrated...I have spent so much on the truck recently that I just don't have funds for much right now. Thanks for reading folks! Hope all are staying warm!

Finally... The first real snow storm of the year...
We just had out first good snow fall of 2012 and I tell ya...I don't miss the stuff! lol That's a great way to ride out the snow! I have a lot of relatives down in NC. When I was real young (about 30 yrs ago), they came up to visit and my grandmother sees a plow and says to my dad, "what y'all use something like that for". I found that pretty amusing at the time. I just have to figure out why the tranny on this 2nd gen overheats if I use the plow!!!!!!!!!

Is a hx40 big enough for 80 to 100 hp injectors????
War Eagle - where did you have your's rebuit and how much. Feel free to pm if it's not ok to post here. I would like a little more out of my truck come this spring and your set up sounds about perfect for me (though I'll keep running my edge attitude rather than buying a new tuner).Sorry for the Hi-jack. It sounds like the 40 with those injectors should work well unless you are not a fan of the potential lag from a stop. Good luck and let us know how it works out if you do it.Thanks

2 cycle oil
I've never used it before, but with this 01 it seems like a good idea. Since I just replaced the vp, I figured it was time to start. The only thing I have noticed is that I get a bit more smoke at start up on cold mornings for first few minutes. Otherwise the truck runs great (except for my lack of heat lol :banghead:).

Possible VP
Once again...thanks everyone! I appreciate the help. I truley know nothing about these cummins motors and I'm learning a lot. It was the original VP. I got the truck back this weekend and I've put about 200 miles on it since. Completely different truck. To save some money I was going to attempt the install with a buddy, but I changed my mind obviously, because I couldn't afford to have the truck down for too long. I didn't ask my mechanic what vendor he used, but he said the same thing you did KATOOM in regards to using VPs that have the most current upgrades and electronics, as well as the life of the VP since it has after market pump/fuel pressure guage. On a lighter note, glad it's out of the way and hope I can get to the body work some time soon (needs a lot of work!!! )

Automatic Sliding 5th wheel hitch
I've had the PullRite Superglide in my last three trucks and I absolutely love it. So easy/no worries about the cab and when I take it out the bed is clean and level. I chose to go with the more expensive mounts (forget what they call em) and it is a really nice set up.As for the weight, it breaks down in pieces and even I can get it in and out of the bed alone (not a big guy). But I highly suggest a buddy when you can get one lol.I'm actually trying to sell mine right now as I think I want to go back to smaller travel trailers for a while, but used is a good way to go. If you go used, make sure that you buy NEW bolts/washers/nuts for the mounting plates.

Thanks everyone...It's a great site. I had to add a few items to my list of goals today...downpipe was shot as was the throttle cable, but at least they are done!

Thanks for the input guys...I'll report back how it goes.

Possible VP
I did check the code references. 0500 is from spinning the bald tires during the last snow fall (i'm guessing). 0380 is Intake Air Relay something or other so I don't believe it was related to my issue, but I could be wrong.216 is the code I didn't want to see lol, but it's there. When I compare my issue with those of all the posts I've read here and other sites (as well as blue chip?? diagnosis post), it seemed more a vp issue. Apps may also be an issue but so far I'm leaning toward vp.

Possible VP
Folks - I began having issues a few weeks ago and I've done a lot of research on the VP symptoms/diagnosis option to rule the VP in/out as my problem. My mechanic will run the codes with scanner tomorrow when it goes in and replace vp if he agrees, but I'd like to get other opinions as well.Truck has a Fass fuel pump and pressure guage reads 19-21 at idle and no lower than 14 at WOT. Started a week after I bought it. On cold start and go situations, it would not get out of its own way. It would clear up after a few miles and rip like normal. It was recommended that I warm it up for 5-10 minutes before driving when cold out. Wont pretend to know why it was suggested, but I went with it and seemed to be working (or just coincidence) as it didn't happen any more for about a week. Then began to randomly have what I will call "dead pedal". It doesn't matter time of day / outside air temp / or if the truck is cold or up to temp. I will be driving along and driving fine, then I go to accelerate up a hill and it will maintain rpm but wont increase and truck slowly looses speed up the hill. Once over the top of the hill, it will regain, but still won't get up and go like it should. However, that said, sometimes I can let off the throttle for a little bit and get back into it and it will rip again.Codes at this time have only been read with the key trick/not a scanner. PCM is 1693 (not helpful) and 0500 (bald tires lol). ECM is 1693, 0380 and 0216.Anyone have any saving graces or agree its the VP ? Thanks,Bill

Will definitely check out the vendors...The fuel pressure always runs 19-21 at idle and cruise/has a 1 yr old fass system installed by previous owner. It drops to about 14 to 15 at WOT. For codes I have 0500 in PCM and 1693 and 0216 in ECM. Had codes cleared and rechecked after issue happened again and came up with same. Mind you, this is using the key trick so I don't know if other codes would appear with scanner or not. As for explanation of how the truck is behaving ... it's been a little different each time. I'll start a separate thread in proper forum to discuss to get better coverage with more full explanations. Thx.

Better to idle or better to drive on a cold engine
I generally prefer to start it, let it run for 30 seconds...turn on the high idler...run in and get my stuff together (about 1-2 minutes) and that's it. I get in, turn off the high idle feature and go...drive slow till I get to the highway and I have heat within a mile. Haven't been able to do that lately though...throttle was getting no response...truck just wouldn't move. Let it warm on high idle for about 10 minutes and it was fine...but then it wasn't...began having issue with the throttle (what I'll call dead peddle) and the research about VP failures was on. Hoping I can go back to my original warm ups once it's replaced...saves on fuel and the neighbors REALLY appreciate it on those 4 am starts!

Hey everyone - :cheers:I learned about this site though MoparMan's posts on the Cummins Forum and came over to check it out. I've found lots of information I was looking for, so thank you to those who post helpful info.I'm from Massachusetts (others prefer the term Masshole but we're not all like that ). I have relatives out there in Idaho but not sure what towns they live in now. Not new to diesels (06 and 08 Duramax) but this is my first Cummins and feel I may have bitten off a bit too much. By the time I'm done, I feel as if I'm restoring an antique show car rather than a daily driver lol.My truck has been having an issue with not shifting properly and/or not accelerating when I get into the throttle and I needed to determine if I had a vp/related or APPS issue or something with this DTT tranny. Through the info on here and other places, I'm pretty sure I do need a VP and set up an appt for tomorrow to get it over with. Now I just need to install my power seats into truck (which has no power seats currently)/stereo and speakers for tunes/borgeson steering box and shaft/convert stacks to rear exit exhaust/find what's clunking underneath/new shocks/and the biggie....body work! Oh yeah...also need the typical dash repair at some point.Look forward to getting to know others, though I will mostly be a sponge for a while. Have a great day everyone. Great site.Bill

p1693 + P0500...
Well...that takes care of one code lol! Off to search the other ones and see what I can find...thanks for the info
