  1. YEEEEA!!! Nice! :thumbup2:Looks good. I really like the front bumper, too. Especially the Mopar hooks! What I do not get is how the rear bumper was done. Looks like the plastic was coated in the liner? Was it a chrome bumper before?Did you get it Line-X'ed or in some other liner? The rear bumper would make me a little worried, as I have read bedliner does not like to stick to chrome or plastic.
  2. So I like I said before, I made a good list up of some things I need to get done on the truck. I got alot to get done soon and I need to make sure she will be up for the task. I'm about 3/4's the way done and then it finally dawns on me that I should post up some pics. I started off re-doing my rear drum brakes. Took the drums off and got new drums, shoes and hardware. Had to wait 3 days for the drums to come in. Break best is the brand name. Comes from China. I was not pleased about seeing that damned sticker! :banghead: I sure hope they last. I will definitely be keeping my receipts! So I got the drums all buttoned up and got the tires rotated. Greased the front end and finishing up on doing the oil change. I could not finish it cause I figure I might as well keep the fresh oil out until I finish the rest of my stuff. I got a new line put on the turbo return line. 7/8 of an inch at 3" cost me a $1.30. Had to wait a day for the guys to order the hose, too. Only place that carried them was a Cummins authorized service shop. She won't be leaking anymore! I had to do my crank seal, cause when I replaced the seal, the inner rubber of the seal somehow got curled over on the bottom and melted away from the friction. Thereby leaking a while after doing the job. I suppose it gave me the excuse to pull the radiator and flush it and do my coolant. I had planned on it anyways, just did not want to do all the extra work! Here is the crank seal removed. You can without a doubt thats all that was leaking. I thought at first I screwed up my sealant job when I did my KDP fix. I tried to keep the cover on and just replace the seal, but once I tried to re-install the seal, it proved more difficult than I had thought. In the end, I boogered the seal up. A $45 mistake!!!! So I broke down, took everything out and took it apart and put the new seal in the right way. Here it is, in all its dirtyness! I took some purple power and hit it and MAN, what a difference that stuff makes! Because I had bought the wear-ring before I did this job, assuming that was what the problem was, I decided I would go ahead and install it for extra security. I suppose when it wears out in due time, I can replace it. Allowing me to keep the original crank surface wear to a minimum. Now, when I was in the process of finishing up doing my coolant flush today, I took an observation. Comparing my health of my coolant system to Mikes, is a night and day difference! I'm just over 200k miles now, and I believe he said his was around 180k miles. I have had this truck just over a year now and I can tell that compared to Mikes, this poor truck was just not receiving the care it needed! Makes me wonder if I should be worried now... ^Thermostat housing where the upper radiator hose connects to. ^A peek inside the radiator! ^A closer look in the radiator! I'm fully disgusted at how bad of condition the coolant system is in. I think the next large project thats gonna go underway will be to pull the dash and replace the core(s). I notice it does not put out the heat like I think it should. Compared to other vehicles I have, it does not get nearly as hot... Anyways, I still have to finish my oil change, clean all the parts that came out, put them in and finish the flush. I got the radiator and block, but I did not get the heater core and lines flushed as I was not able to run the engine, yet. I still gotta pull the calipers on the front brakes and hone out the bores and put in new seals. Then, flush the brake lines and put new brake fluid in. Then, I have one more big to do after all this. I still gotta pull the vacuum pump and put a new seal kit in from Goulds and then put new power steering fluid in. Well, I gotta tell ya, I still got my work cut out for me, but I think tomorrow will allow me to make a huge dent in the progress. But after all this is said and done, I will be sitting pretty good on my maintenance schedule for a while!
  3. Take the thermostat out of the housing and bolt the housing back up. As if you were going to run the engine like normal. Drain the system with the petcock on the bottom of the radiator. Located on the driver side. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and put a hose into the inlet of the radiator. Start the engine and let it run. Turn the heater control to hot and on high. Run the water through until the water comes out clear. Then let the system drain again. Put new thermostat in housing and reconnect hose. Fill with 50/50 coolant mix. Make sure to top off after thermostat opens.
  4. AHA! See, your in the 2nd gen forum. We don' need no stinkin' HOAT!
  5. Well, I know that with Al's Liner it takes this: http://www.alsliner.com/faq [h=1]How do I prepare the surface to spray?[/h][h=1]Wood requires no preparation. Fiberglass and metal need to be scuffed with 36 grit or coarser medium. Sand blasting will give you a great surface. Wipe clean with a good solvent to eliminate surface contamination.[/h]
  6. Okay you scallywags! I have the rear brakes all fixed up on both sides and correctly! With everyones great help, I managed to find out that the shoes do matter! These are the servo-style drum brakes and the thicker shoes go to the rear.I got them on with all new hardware as well. Looks very purdy! Got my ant seize all gooped up in the right spots and now just need to get the new drums on!BTW, I still need to know about the ABS portion of all this, too. So I would appreciate it if someone could chime in and tell me all of whats involved in bleeding the brake system.
  7. Just do it in black.
  8. You guys sure my fan is a viscous clutch? I pulled it out last night and it had a coil on the front. You know what else I hate, the fact dodge did not think to make the fan shroud a 2-piece! What a PITA!
  9. Okay, so what year range does this specifically apply to? I did'nt even know we have aluminum on our engines either?
  10. So only three? Nice, I'm glad, cause I'm getting tired turning the wrench...
  11. Haha, its been a long day. I got under the truck, took off the inspection plate for the transmission, and "BING"! Then I remember its along these lines and thats why it won't work. I just grabbed the wife and had her hold a prybar on the flywheel as I broke the dampener bolts. Worked reaaaalllly well! I'll be doing it that from now on. Hopefully will be one of my last times having to do it!
  12. So putting it in Drive won't work?
  13. Alright, so what and how many bolts are holding this nightmare on the engine?
  14. Nice! I'm gonna check it out!
  15. Okay, so I gotta get the dampener off to fix my crank seal. I do not remember it being so hard! I do not have a barring tool and it would be 4 days out at the earliest. I do not have that kinda time to wait. Is there anything I can do to break the bolts free?I thought about whether or not I could put it into Drive and break them that way. Would that work?
  16. FSM? I have a Chiltons, wonder if it covers it...
  17. EH?! I gotta do a coolant flush sometime this week. Got myself O'reilly green coolant. Thermostat, too. Yea, I actually have never had to do a coolant flush, how do you do it?
  18. Yes, a metal chop saw and hydraulic pipe bender would be something I would LOVE to add to my arsenal...
  19. Are these fans viscous or centrifical? When truck is cold, fan will have resistance and not want to spin very much. Probably about as much as you described. Talked to a guy at O'reilly's and he described it like you did.So, I assume its in good condition then. Although, I never hear it roaring, ever. Thats why I figured it was bad, that it was not fully engaging. I don't have temp. problems though.
  20. Good point, I will be sure to remember that. In fact, I think I even heard that once before when I got the truck. Just forgot it. Although, my door hinges are just fine. Its them darn bushings that are'nt.
  21. Alright, so I got a laundry list of items I have for the truck and one of them is to service the rear brakes. I have not done drums in years. Last night, it took me like 2 hours to get one side back together. Let alone, I think I did it wrong. :banghead:If any of you guys have pics of both sides, I would appreciate it. I think I have everything on right, except the shoes. I believe it matters what shoe goes on what side, right?I became a cussing man again last night, which I did not like. Bought new spring hardware, etc. and man they are STIFF! I even bought a brake tool and its not even worth my time, stupid thing!Gaaaah! :ahhh:Also, I'm draining my brake lines and putting new fluid in and will be checking the calipers. Will I need to mess with the ABS at all when doing any of this? Any extra line or places I need to drain the brake fluid from with the ABS?
  22. I also read of it continuing to spin after the engine shuts off when up to operating temp? I think I will take a roll of newspaper to it instead of a solid piece of rubber. I don't want to damage anything if it is bad, lol.
  23. Sounds like the only thing I can necessarily do is spend the $40 per hinge to get them fixed. Looks like the upper hinges include the limiting arm assembly.I was thinking mor along the lines of somehow using some teflon and halving a tube of it and putting the splits in the hole.Sounds like I'm gonna need to do a little more research on this one... I'll keep you posted!
  24. HA! Well tough! Cause I just gave you thanks!
  25. I continue and will continue to compare our current govt. antics as a professional wrestling match. Our politicians go on stage and do "battle" with each other, acting as if they are siding with their respective people. But, behind the stage, they are al buddy buddy and act as if there was never a difference between them. When we continue to play along with this sharade and watch this puppet show and get into it like the nation does when they watch American idol, we continue along the path of insanity. If you want to undersand what I speak of, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYhmATD8hLk
