VP-44 Cooler?
What if its not the heat that kills the vp44, but the vibration?

I've never understood how linux does not have virus problems like windows or mac. How is that?

College GradS, Debt, 50% Can't get a Jobs..............
I will start off by saying this:I'm 23 going on 24. When I graduated high school, I dismissed college. My outlook on it was that it was only going to bring me trouble. If I had gone to college, at the time I would have chosen Automotive collision and refinishing. I did it for 2 years in high school. Block class which allowed half of my school days to be learning the trade.Once I saw how much it would put me in debt in college to get all the tools necessary to go through the class, I was turned off by it and did not want to go that route. So I went to the local ITT tech college to see about getting into Drafting and Design. The recruiter did his whole shpiel, but the meat of the visit was at the end. When he finally got to talking about how much it would cost in tuition I was not gonna have it. 80k for 2 years I think it was. They had high standards and if you did not meet them, you forfeited your education and they still took all the money. So I started looking in the paper for jobs. I ran across one talking about painting. I thought it was painting vehicles. Unbeknownst to me, the guy on the other end of the phone was a union representative. Ironically, he even came to the school where I did my auto body education and did a presentation trying to recruit us into construction. We got to talking and he eventually figured out who I was. I made an appointment with him and we met a few days later. I was not too hot on getting into construction as a painter or drywaller. He asked if I would ever consider being a glazier. He had to explain to me what a glazier was. I thought about it and figured heck, why not. So, I put my 2 weeks in at Mcdonalds and went into construction as a glazier.I started doing this glazing thing and my peers were still 3 months away from graduating high school. I put myself on a contract and did the fast-track graduation. I stayed in the trade for a year and a half. The original job I worked on starting out in glazing was a year long. I worked hard, proved myself and earned the respect of journeymen. In some cases, I impressed the foreman so much he thought more of me than some of the journeymen. After the project finished, I went back home and took 3 months off. Got on with a local union glass shop and worked for them for 9 months. They were not doing good and we got word that it would not be very long until they would close their doors. So I left before I could feel the sting of unemployment. Then, I pursued that entrepreneurial opportunity that you speak of. I got on with a company that covered life insurance, retirement, refinancing mortgages and investments. I jumped through so many hoops and sacrificed alot of time to get into it. The biggest thing was to get my life insurance license. I got my license and then the company would consider hiring you. They did a background check and found that I had a troubled past. So they rejected me. It was a very disappointing time...So, once that jabbed me in the gut, I was left right in the middle of this current mess. Right at the height of the recession. I'm very good at managing my money. I had around 4-6k saved up and lived off of that while staying with my parents. Then I started going back and forth in the meantime playing chase with my Wife which was my girlfriend at the time. I managed to live off that much money and earning my keep doing small stuff for about 1 1/2 years. Then things started to seem a little brighter. So I looked for a job here in ID in manufacturing. I got married to my lady and moved up to ID. Got my job in manufacturing and was happy as a clam.3 1/2 months down the road, they lay me off. Big downer... So back to the soup line I went. Tried to do one of those temp agency things. They got me a job working in the sawmill. I worked that for 3 weeks and was not even willing to let it go longer. It was too dangerous for my taste. People would not pay attention to what they were doing and even injured me at one point. I said to heck with it! I quit that job. The temp agency had another position that I could take but I was fed up with their lies as well.By quitting I lost my unemployment. So 2 months go by and another local manufacturer was hiring. Unskilled labor making bio-medical electrodes. Me and the wife applied and got a job there. I worked there for 9 months, and then they canned me. My wife was fortunate enough to keep hers. She just recently quit after working there for 18 months.I started my volunteer firefighting program January of 2011. I received the proper training and still to this day 'am a volunteer firefighter. Its going on a year and a half now as a volunteer and I have received alot of training and have become certified for many things. If I were to continue to do so, I could have enough credits for an Associates degree in fire science. There are still many things to be done to get it, but I really have not had to do a whole lot to obtain these college worthy credits.I should be starting my new job here in mid-July as a glazier again. Construction has picked up a little bit in the area. It would mean that I would have to stop being a volunteer firefighter for this department, but there are plenty others around. This glazing job is supposed to last about a year. They have more work lined up after, but you never know how it goes. The co-owner of the company is looking for a person of my stature to take over his job, but he has not found someone he can train. The moral of the story:I have done what I could and deemed fit to make sure that I had my bills and expenses paid. To never place a burden on someone that should not have it for my sake. I have always tried my best to pull my weight. I may have not been the over-achiever, but I still have something to speak for. I took the slow times as a way to just stop, slow down and try and enjoy life. When I could, I would jump on those opportunities to make money. I sold firewood for a while to pay bills, and so did every cat and dog in this area. In fact, I had so much success with it, I'm still keeping it in mind for a form of supplemental income.I did not bat an eye at college much. I looked at going into the Avista Lineman school. At the time it was a 10k tuition fee and was 3-4 months long. Placement as an apprentice in the trade was said to be 100% if you were willing to do it anywhere in the country.I stopped pursuing that one after seeing what electricity can do... :ahhh:So, with my future glazing prospect, I may end up running part of a glass company one day. If not, the construction goes bust, then I have a fallback in the fire service. I will continue to keep my training up and strive to better myself with more certs. If I need to, I will go to college to become a paramedic. It would be a bigger return for me despite it being college. If that don't work, I'll go into wildland firefighting. If that don't work, I suppose I will just sell myself on the corner! :lmao:One way or another, I'm not gonna let this situation get me down... The way I look at it is that if more people my age become lazy degenerates, the more opportunities I have to get a high-profile position in something. The sky is the limit!!!

What type of rotor set up is this?
I dun' remember the socket size, but I spend $25 on an impact socket just for the nut. It is a more uncommon size, I know that. You take the castle nut off and seperate the axle from the hub. Knock out the lug studs and the bearing assembly will seperate from the rotor.

Gantry crane?
You'll let me borrow that, right?

How about Windows Vista Inside Ubuntu Linux?
Thats what I'm not liking about Microsoft. They are constantly "upgrading" their OS'. Causing people to go out every year and buy a new OS'. I think they are running out of ways to make money.

VP-44 Cooler?
Hope this is not defined as off-topic, but how effective is the fuel heater in the fuel canister?

Gantry crane?
Alright, so one of my goals within this year is to make a gantry crane. I have been wanting one for a while now. Biggest thing is being able to hang large game for skinning and quartering. It will obviously serve many different purposes other than hanging game. The possibilities are endless.I want to make it large enough to stand higher than my truck and wider so I could back through it. I estimated it to be at the dimensions of 10'x12'. Giving me some room to clear the mirrors/open doors and tall enough to have clearance and some play room if needed. Then, as far as winching goes, the best would be to go motorized.Design is easy. A-frame style. But material is my biggest concern. I want to make something that can handle lifting a tank! I was trying to think of being able to just lift a cord of wood right out of the bed with it. Except, a cord of green wood can easily reach 6-8k lbs! Depending on species...I would really like to build it out of strong lumber. I have not priced out how much metal or lumber would be, but lumber would be cheaper than steel. Although, steel is stronger. If anyone here can give me an idea on strength on lumber, it would be helpful. Engineering one out of steel is a no-brainer for me. Engineering one out of lumber is a little more difficult. Here are my thoughts on how to try and structurally engineer one out of lumber. Granted, I would have to accept the fact I would never be able to lift a cord of green wood out of the bed, but thats okay if I can other serious stuff.Building off the A-frame method, all of it would be made out of the largest beams I could get my hands on. Such as something like 12x12's or something. The top running section would be composed of 4 of these in a square like shape. Then, putting all them together, I would drill holes and fasten using 3/4" threaded rod. The top running section would have these pieces of all-thread running from side to side, and then top to bottom, so all 4 are joined to each other.Maybe if thats not strong enough, plate the weakest points with 1/4" steel? What do you guys think? Would it be feasible and work? Should I do treated or non-treated lumber? If non-treated, paint it or seal it? I would do my best to keep it in an enclosed area so it is not beaten down by the weather/sun, but it would probably have to come out some of the time. I know UV can really give wood a beating just as much as humidity can.

VP-44 Cooler?
If it was a matter of cooling while the fuel was flowing, I would of had the perfect design. But to keep it cool AFTER the fact, thats a little more of a challenge.Although, the idea of using a heatpaste/sink like a computer holds the most with me IMO.

Whats the difference?
Alright, so I'm unsure of exactly what you wanna cover, but here it is: NEXT!

Shy of a lighter conversation?
Thinking of better times? Me too...Now, I have taken the fist step, what next, Moparmom?..I'm still kind of unsure where this is supposed to lead to?

Filled up with fuel tonight...
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think diesel has become more expensive now because people know that alot of our logistics is carried by the 18 wheeler.Make diesel more expensive, food goes up, increase in taxes, people have to spend more on food and fuel, more money in their pockets.

How about Windows Vista Inside Ubuntu Linux?
Hmm, I wonder... I have pondered about getting linux. Just was hesitant about doing it since I was worried about being able to run some programs. But, if I could do this, well, that just changes everything! How to I get me the Linux OS?? I know there are a few linux os', so which one to get also?

EGT and thermo couple
No, your fine. You just did not realize the fuel companies have released a new form of environmentally friendly diesel! When you get on the eco-pedal, your engine no longer spews out cancer causing carcinogens, but rather spews out rainbow colored smoke that causes happy thoughts. Which induces people to think about the world more. Then they go off about wanting to eat granola bars and planting trees and hugging bunnies... ...a sad day, indeed.

Fuel Pressure Valve
Well, I could see why that is possible. Today, the light did not even come on. So the liquid must not be on plug terminals anymore. I just figured that the computer may have sensed after a while that it was unplugged and stopped coming on... I keep having air bubbles in my fuel line to my gauge isolator. Talk about frustrating... How much air can I have in the line before it would make a difference on my pressure gauge?

Fuel Pressure Valve
I ought to go and buy a lottery ticket then, eh? Also, I usually am pretty good about being hydrated and fed, but I get into this mindset when I'm working on the truck. Gotta get it done, stop screwing around, times wastin'! Like I'm my own boss or something, haha... Well, I don't think it would have mattered actually. One way or another its going to be a "pollutant" to the environment somehow. The kitty litter is going right into the trash when I pick it up. Burning it off would have been better idea, but it was too close to the house. You oughta look into seeing how they deal with large hazmat operations with contaminated dirt. Usually they throw it into a furnace and burn the dirt until its clean. Granted, they probably have an excellent EPA mandated setup to do it.. - - - Updated - - - Alright, so I got the OEM canister removed from the bay. I did not like to see it in there when it served no purpose, really. But, now that I did that, the WIF light is on. What can I do to disable it? Can I just bridge the terminals? - - - Updated - - - OH yea, almost forgot. MY pressure sweep is only 3psi from idle to WOT, now!

Heater core project
AHA! Every little bit counts!Alrighty, so I got the dash pulled out just enough yesterday and got the heater case removed. Split the halves, and oh my!There was copious amounts of clogging going on at the evaporator. It kept the heater core nice and clean, but now I understand why my heat was not coming out so great. So, I managed to get them taken down to the local radiator shop. He pressure tested them both and they both checked out. Cool! Save myself the cost of having to buy a new core and evap.So he took my evap, sprayed some of the good ol' acid solution he had on it and then hit it with his steam hose. CLEANED her right up! I was shocked! Then he tooke the heater core and sprayed the water through to see if anything came out and it ended up blowing it out a little! He said that was from clogging. So, I put a new heater core in.Got the case put back together and back in she went! I noticed a couple things though. On my blend door motor, I think the coupler pieces have been upgraded? They look just like the pieces on heatertreater.net!Putting the dash back in was a little more difficult than I thought. Although, it was actually the easiest dash pull I have ever done! I got the dash back in and then proceeded to secure the bolts at the top. I broke 2 clips while tightening them down! I found that using any torque with the ratchet is a bad idea. Just hand tighten them down and thats it!I made sure everything went back in right. So far it seems to work good. Although I dunno if its just because I have worked on it and paying more attention to it, but it seems like the vent selector is kind of sticky.Gotta tell ya, once that evaporator was cleaned, the truck puts out some reeeeeeaaaalllly good heat now! I think I'm gonna have to figure out something for a cabin air filter. I would much rather pay for filter replacements then ever have to go back in like that to clean it! Especially since I may not always have my HVAC on recirculate.

Heater core project
Mike, in your video on the evaporator replacement, what is the weather-tape you used? There are all sorts of different tapes, just trying to get an idea if there was a reason why you specifically used the one you did, in the video.

A/C lines
HAHA! That is a cool pic! That stuff really lights up in the blacklight! So, I was fortunate enough to go to the local A/C repair guy and got my washers and seals. I discussed things over with him and he said the most I should need to do is an accumulator. He said if it was running fine before and your not having compressor problems, then there is no reason to worry about all the other stuff, really. So, I got me a new accumulator on order through NAPA. Lifetime warranty. Will be here in the morning... Once I finish the heater core project deal, I'll get it back to him and he can deal with charging it and putting oil in it. I would rather place the liability on him since I'm paying him anyways to put in the right amount. He does it more than I do. If something does not seem right, its on him, not me, lol.

Fuel Pressure Valve
Oh man, yesterday was no fun. I think alot had to do with the fact I neglected my well-being. I did not drink enough water or eat enough food. On top of that, it was the hottest day we have had in a while. I ended up wearing black clothing. Couple that with the headache of working on a vehicle and trying to be smart about things. It all just goes downhill for me and turns into a "cluster"...Airdogs will prime the pump everytime you turn the ignition to the ON position. Its supposed to only run for like 1-2 seconds and then shut off. If you crank the engine it runs constantly. If you bump start it, the pump primes for 25 seconds IIRC.For some reason though, when I just turned the ignition on, it just kept flowing. My guess is that it kept flowing causing it was not pressurizing.

Need help on bidding a job.
Yea, doing things for friends or people that you have good relations with is always walking the fine line. I say sticking to business and just making sure its a fair deal, is the important factor, IMO. As long as both parties hold their end of the deal, its good to go.

Whats the difference?
I agree with you on your thoughts. Although, I think we oughtta start another thread on that subject. I would be more than willing to contribute to that pool of info. I have wanted to talk about this sort of thing with you guys for a while, but never seemed to get the vibe that is what people were interested in talking about... So I kept me pie hole shut..

Whats the difference?
...one problem though, but I'm sure I know what Mike will say. :lmao:Why is it I always hear Mike listening to chick music in his videos?

Fuel Pressure Valve
:banghead: I really made a mess for myself yesterday... Went up to the store and got a setup pieced together. I got me a barbed-tee setup made to accept my needle-valve so I could go in-line on the fuel line. Hooked up the line directly to the VP44 and bypassed the fuel canister. I was gonna call it a night and wait to do the install. I had disconnected the batteries while I was working on the rig. I left the windows down to keep things cool, though. But at the end of the night, I wanted to get them back up. Don't wanna deal with thieves or weather. So I hook the battery up so I can get the windows back up. Turn the key to ON and I start "rolling" the windows up. I hear the pump prime and think cool. WAIT! SH!t! I realized that in the process, I had the line disconnected from the fuel canister and the pump is priming the whole time! Then the pump does not shut off! I thought what the heck, why is it not just pumping for 1 or 2 seconds? I go back to the engine bay and its dumping fuel. I'm freaked a little and think how the heck 'am I gonna shut this off?! Took me a second, but I did it... pulled the negative on the battery. I'm thinking that it probably dumped about 1-2 gallons of fuel in the engine bay and on the ground, maybe less. So, I start a cussin'. I got me a good mess to clean now. So I get the truck backed up and decide that if I want the windows up, I gotta get the install done. So I take about 10 minutes, get it done and then proceed to clean up my mess. Took 2 sandbags to cover the puddle. Then I start shoveling it into the wheelbarrow. Then it hits me.. You fool, sand is an ADsorbent, not an ABsorbent! Did you not learn anything in that haz-mat ops class of yours?! Sigh, so I scoop it up and grab the last of any kitt litter available. Spread it out and just so happened to have just enough before the bag ran out. The sand did help in picking up the majority and man, that kitty litter is like a sponge! Was a long day yesterday and I'm going to perceive it to be the same way today. Anybody want some sand to burn?! You know its getting bad when you can only sleep 4 hours and have nothing but nightmarish dreams of working on the truck... - - - Updated - - - Hmm, lol. I keep brainstorming more and more. Now that I think of it, I have enough fuel line, I could probably get myself some elbows and hook up the line to include the canister again. Would not even have to buy a big-line kit for the space between the pump and canister!
-
If it ain't one thing, its another...
Would any of these work? I tried to look on DAP and did not find the kit for my turbo(HX35). CPP did not seem to have one for my application either?
