Maintenance Schedule Spreadsheet
Alright, so I was able to take a gander at the spreadsheet program and get familiar with it a little. Never used it before and took some time last night and composed this up:I decided to get myself a schedule made up so I can get things a little more organized than writing it all down in a notebook and have to fish through it all everytime in order to know which task is next. Looking at it, do you guys think I need to add, take away anything to make it more efficient and streamlined? All the red boxes are what task is to be done at that mileage. The *, or ^ is what type of task is to be done. I would either like to print it out or keep it digital and when the task is done, I will mark the box.

Mike is out firefighting so don't call him....
No, ... Unfortunately not anymore. Since I've been gone though, I still occassionally go up there though since the in-laws live up there. Ran into a fellow volly and he said its been real quiet since I left. I guess I took the action with me! I hope to live in the post falls area or so sometime soon and if I can get on with their fire dept. The chief in sandpoint told me they prefer to hire their volly's first before outsiders. I would love to be able to get myself into that situation. Now, that certainly sounds like you have got your hands full! I hope you get what you need. Especially since budgets are running tight.

Blowby
Yea, mine was doing it the day I noticed it. I have not had any oil on the ground, but my vent also exits right over the diff. fin on the left. The area was wet looking. I suppose what oil is dripping on the ground from your truck is what oil is dripping on my differential on my truck. Its so strange that I could have this much blowby but not have barely any oil consumption...

Alright, so how does one go about building this manometer?

Brown Dogs and Geese
I've got me a choco lab AKC. She is going on 2 this christmas eve. Goes back 3 generations of pure choco. Considering that you are a breeder, do you know how I can find someone to breed her to? I don't even know where to start. Hope this is not considering hijacking your thread....

Mike, your back on as a volly right? I'm eager to get into wildland as a paid person. I had to leave the fire dept. since I've moved for my job and it kills me to listen to the firetrucks go by...Looks like a double-standard of fun!

Boost question
I believe I have the older edge boost elbow? Its got a restriction on the port with two small holes in it. Looking at a programmer soon as well. Yea, I'm trying to avoid studs and gasket, etc.. DP?
-
Boost question
IIRC rule of thumb is for every 1psi of boost it is 10hp. So if the truck is stock, that means 230hp. Or about 23psi. So if I added my 75hp injectors that should bring me 35psi. I hit 27psi on the boost gauge on avg. So, it ought to be a normal thing for me to throw the code then. Now then, with this in mind. If I use that rule of thumb, why 'am I not making 35psi of boost? Turbo too small? And if I go that high on boost, could'nt I risk damaging something?

Boost question
I had an edge comp and then got rid of it when I got the transmission rebuilt. What a mistake that was! When I got my transmission rebuilt, the owner said he would put a tow/haul vb in it. Essentially it makes the shift revs higher before shifting. Does not aid any in the downshift and the tow/haul is still an OD lockout function.
-
Blowby
Hmm.. well, I would think my compression is still good. But the blowby still makes me curious. I was trying to get it compression tested while I had the injectors out but could not find the injector adaptor to do it. I coulda got it from cummins but I would of had to wait.Although, I would like to hear more about this "test"...
-
Boost question
Thats comforting to hear. I was really concerned my turbo was taking a poop on me. I have not bothered with a fooler, because if IIRC, the edge has one built into it? I'm hoping to get my hands on a newer version of one.

Blowby
So, since I have installed the mopar1973man blowby mod, it exits right at the front differential on the driver side. I was wondering what normal blowby looks like. Does the outside temp. have any influence as well? My dipstick says its at the top of the full line still, but the differential looks wet like I accidently dropped some oil on it. It does not accumulate enough to the point that it drips on the ground though...

Boost question
So I posted a thread a little while ago about my turbo and it throwing a p0234 code. Got no respose. So, I decided I would try and dig a little deeper into the issue. I thought about making a leak tester to see if I can figure out what was going. So I went to the local stores and parted together a tester. Got a 4" rubber coupling and a 4" adapter with a cap. Put an air regulator on the end and called it good.So I put the tester on the inlet of the turbo and put the pressure to it. If I apply more than 10psi, the tester wants to slide off the turbo from the pressure. The rubber will also balloon out. I was getting a little nervous about a catastrophic failure but I managed to get it up to 23psi I think the wife said.I'm not sure if its normal or not, but I think my boost elbow is an edge boost elbow for one, but then also I dunno if the little hole on the side of it is normal or not? I may of not had the engine turned at the right point to keep the pressure up either but I was loosing pressure. My intent with the tester was to actually see if I could get the wastegate to actuate to see if the wastegate was indeed stuck. I dunno at what psi its supposed to open?So instead, I stuck the air hose up to the wastegate line with an air nozzle and applied air that way. It made the arm move and the wastegate actuated...So, I'm wondering now, if I have the boost elbow on is if thats whats causing me to throw the code? I took the truck out after and floored it. The highest the boost got was 27psi. With my injectors and boost elbow, should'nt I be making moe boost then that? Is 27psi also enough to throw the p0234 code as well?

2016:The Movie
http://2016themovie.com/ So, I had the opportunity to partake in seeing this movie. I figured to definitely let you guys know of this movie. It finally made a showing here locally and I took the wife to see it. In summary: If you have any care for this country and for what it stands for, its a 100% important worthwhile thing to spend the money on seeing. It was not all exactly of what I expected to see, but nonetheless very important. The movie uncovers alot of mystery and fog around obama and his past life. Shedding some secrecy around his workings. I was shocked for sure and also was presented with a a different theory that meshes very well into the scheme of things. GO SEE IT! People in theatre actually clapped afterwards...

Can't figure it out
:think:Okay, so ever since I've had the whole shpiel with the truck last time running funny, it seems it still will throw a couple codes.Going in the mountains this weekend, so I decided I would run a code reader on it see if it is still running good. Well, turns out it threw a P0234 code 2x. Checked the ECM and PCM as well. Dunno if these trucks allow it or not, but the reader said unable to communicate with the ECM.The PCM said there was companion code set. Now, I dunno if anything serious is occuring or not, but I would sure like to figure it out. I definitely would hate the idea of being broke down in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!I have suffered from lower fuel mileage rating and since the first occurance of this problem about a month and a half or so ago, the exhuast has been smokier. Before this occured, my exhaust was barely ever smokey. No on a good accel, it will smoke good.As far as I can think of, with all the symptoms and codes being set, by bet is the turbo. Especially since seeing the inside "damage" that was done with the k&n filter that was in there.I really really hope it is not an IP or something!Could I have a dirty or bad MAP sensor?I suppose that would not explain the P0234 though...

Yep, the irony in it all! But, thats the good ol' liberal mind for ya... I was wondering whether or not you were going to end up chiming in on this...

new cure for p1689
Thanks, buddy! I had this code occur to me when I was having the other code fiasco happen. It has not happened again since, so I dunno whats going on. But, will take note about this if it does so occur again.

Smokers and Grillers Thread
Well well well! I say this thread is perfect timing! Since I will only have the weekends to do things now, one of my projects is going to be this! http://www.doublebarrelsmoker.com/ I already have 2 55-gal barrels to get this started. Just need to get the other parts to get it going. I have been looking everywhere for a PERFECT bbq. The local Big R here carries a bbq'er that has propane on one side, and charcoal on the other with a smoke box. I despise propane! Charcoal and wood is gonna give the best flavor for the most cancer! Wal-mart carries a certain charcoal bbq, but it does'nt have the smoke box. So, the one day I was at the fire dept. when we burned down the house, we had a caterer come in with their tow behind barrel bbq. It was not made out of barrels, but huge pipe. All of it was built out of 1/4" plate steel! This got me thinking. Looking at the extra barrels I had and having saved them to actually save it for a specific idea to use them as a smoker, I decided googling something would be best. Well, the link above is GOLD! Not only will I have a smoker, but I will have a bbq'er! WOOO! I have about 24 large milk crates full of apricot wood that I chunked up to save for when I get my next elk. I'll be having alot of meat to smoke! We already smoked up some horse meat made up into smokies with the apricot wood and it was unbelievable! Matter of fact, we are going to be bbq'ing elk steak tonight, I'll post up some pictures!

Confusion sets in...
Alright guys, so I finished my trip! Had no problems with anything and everything was smooth sailing! :hyper:I took it to the O'reilly's here locally and it did not pull any codes. I took it to a family mechanic and he ran his snap-on diagnostic tablet and he said it did not show any codes thrown. Checked the ECM as well since I could not check with the oreilly code reader. No codes there either. So, in summary, everything checks out. If you get something like I do, check your speed sensor circuit!

Confusion sets in...
Bands have not been adjusted since rebuild. I don't see how anything could be wrong with the VB? I dunno much about auto's.. I would know where to begin. I dunno if it has any debris in the pan. I called the place that I had the transmission rebuilt at and he said the speed sensor can play havoc on the transmission. He said given that I have low miles on the tranny, he said he agrees on the idea the metal shavings were from the break-in. I got the truck loaded up with the last of my belongings and going to make my final trip down to Spokane. We will see how it handles on the way with the new speed sensor and I'll post back up and let you guys know if it throws any codes or is still acting up...

Confusion sets in...
:banghead: Have any ideas? It might have been when I got on the throttle to accelerate quickly to see how the lock-up would be felt. I stopped by O'reilly's and got on the code reader again. It only threw the P0720 code again. So while I was there I replaced the speed sensor. The transmission seems to shift really good now and I don't have the high rev problem nore any funkyness at lockup. I also looked at it closer and it was 1st gear that would rev high. It would not shift into 2nd until I reached about 15-20mph. Tomorrow, I'm gonna go back and clear the codes then get the last bit moved and see how she does on the highway. Then stop by another o'reilly's and see if it threw any codes from the trip. I'm not sure whats going on, but on the end of the speed sensor, the tip looked like it may have gotten hot? It was like a gray discoloration and the tip had metal fillings on it. Very fine, not chunky. Not sure if this is from "break-in" or from recent problems. I dunno what could be dragging so much?

Confusion sets in...
I made it to and fro for work today. 1 hour drive each way. 2nd gear is steeper than usual. I also noticed my egt's are higher and it was no problem getting to 1000 degrees. Boost was averaging 25psi. I also noticed my exhaust was hazing alot. The rear of the bed by the exhaust is almost black. My mileage has also tanked as well. Just running off of the mileage I have on the trip and the fuel consumed I'm running 15.26mpg. Thats 3mpg less than avg. Something is really wrong here... Also, the TC shuddered again a few times as well under light load. If I get on the throttle before TC lock-up the shudder is not felt. I stopped by O'reilly's on the way home to see if it happened to throw codes again from todays trip. IT DID! :banghead: Here is what I got: P0234 Freeze frame data: Load:70.9% ECT F:190 MAP inHg: 75 RPM: 2748 Speed: 40mph IAT: 141 TPS% 83.9 I was also fooling around with the code reader to see if I could pull anything else off while I had it. I tried to pull codes from the ECM and the reader said, "Unable to retrieve engine DTC's." I pulled codes from the PCM. I dunno if this is a recent occurence or what but I got: P1693 P0720 I'll have to look them up for specifics, as the code reader summarized the code. WTF IS GOING ON?!

Confusion sets in...
I'm worried about both codes. I just dunno what either of them are. I'm not around my computer where I can look it up in the FSM. - - - Updated - - - Alright, so I looked up the codes: P0234 (M) Turbo Boost Limit Exceeded Problem detected in turbocharger wastegate. P1698 No CCD/J1850 Message From TCM No CCD/J1850 messages received from the electronic transmission control module (EATX) or the Aisin transmission controller. P1698 No CCD Messages received from PCM Bus communication failure to PCM. A 9Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM. Is the wastegate not operating properly on my turbo? What do the others mean? :banghead: - - - Updated - - - Little did I KNOW! I googled the DTC codes. Turns out, Mike has a whole section for these codes! I can't believe I missed the whole section! Here is what the pages say about the codes: http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/59-obdii-error-codes/165-p0234-turbo-boost-limit-exceeded http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/59-obdii-error-codes/234-p1698-no-bus-message-received-from-pcm I hope these are flukes! It would really suck to have to replace the turbo and PCM! I have to work today and I NEED the truck. I hope I won't screw anything up driving it! Will it just go into limp mode if something is wrong?
