Another Wolf Attack in Emmett, Idaho
- Crank seal
Okay guys, I been looking online and off to find something to address my crank seal problem. I have not tore into the truck yet to see whats going on. But I would rather get equipped with the necessary parts just in case. Nothing worse than opening things up and taking the time to do it and by the time you realize you need something, the stores are closed! So, I have been looking into the repair sleeve that goes onto the crank. It goes by the common name of speedy(i) sleeve.I found that cummins makes one to address this problem. I also found that O'reilly's makes a kit to address this as well. The cummins one on puredieselpower is like $114. I can't find it now, but I saw before as well that the wear ring itself was like $96.O'reilly's kit is like $15 or so. If I could find the images, I would post them.I dunno, but if I use either of these sleeves, will that require me to have use a different seal? The O'reilly's one is a thinner sleeve. Cummins' looked thicker. At any rate, does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this issue?- My end of Idaho
Haha! Yea, its getting crazy. Here is a better story on it: http://www.bonnercountydailybee.com/news/local/article_d98f8d1e-7bb9-11e1-8452-001a4bcf887a.html Check out those rails! Under some extreme tension...- My end of Idaho

For a little bit, I used to think that Idaho was a great state to live in because of natural disasters. Then that perspective changed quick. We may not get tornados, hurricanes or tsunamis, but we can get fallout from volcano's and we can get earthquakes and flooding! I think I will choose a higher spot... Our water table in our area is SHALLLLOOOOOW! We cannot even have basements without risk water coming in. --- Update to the previous post... Mike, I dunno what resources you have around you, but I kick into the firefighter mode when I see this. If your department does it, I know we do it, they should have burlap for the public to make sandbags when flood season hits. I would start trying to get a stock going of sandbags. Then get a water pump to suck out the water. Any area where the water is coming from, I would start diverting the water as best as possible. Get all your furniture out of the house ASAP and get them dry. Start trying to suck all that water up and get some fans and heat in the house to get it dry. Hopefully you can get it done before the water rot kicks in! If you have tarps BTW, put those down on the ground before you do your sandbags. That will help keep the water from penetrating through the bags. Might want to look into creating a runoff area around your property where you have water problems. Dig some ditches and fill with rock.... Either way, looks like a PITA! Best of luck, my friend!- 92 GMC Sierra K1500
I just got off the phone with O'reilly's. The guy was leaning towards the sender. He said it has a diaphragm. So I'm gonna give that a whirl and see what happens. Wife needs a vehicle to work!- 92 GMC Sierra K1500
Okay guys, I got the door fixed! Kept the original door. Upon replacing the pins and bushings again, I replaced the latch assembly. Works as good as new!BUT, now I have a problem with the oil. I checked the oil level, and it is still within spec. But the gauge will flicker? It will bounce back and forth towards the high pressure side and then stop and be steady. Then a few minutes later, it will do it again. Then go steady...I don't think I have a bearing problem or anything, could it be the pump, sender, or sensor?- Mega Millions
HA! Now its at $640 million! I think that would be something that could cause me a cardiac arrest on the spot!- Spring runoff...
Water damage is a PITA! Just got back from another long drive from Kamiah. From there up until CDA, the fields were FLOODED! Naturally made lakes out in pastures. Poor cows, surrounded by water! It was like they were stranded on an island... I wonder if they have ever thought about what they would do if they were stranded on and island like us. Hope they did not get stuck with a cow they did not like!- Do yourself a FAVOR
I'm a Christian and believe along those lines. Although, I'am not trying to push God out of this equation, I did not want to mention that part as some here do not believe in God. So I'm merely trying to state the basics: - A cause and effect, you may say...- Oil Leaks...
Ugh, lol. Someone out there has to know! I just found out though, that if I need one of those speedy sleeves, I can get one from O'reilly's! But it will still equal the price of how much it cost on the net! Although, I will save on shipping. --- Update to the previous post... Hmm... now that I think of it, maybe the leak will stop. I think I may have the same problem as you. As I think my injectors introduced too much diesel and caused the blowby as well? Maybe I will wait a little and see what happens... Might just have to change my oil. I know I put that darn seal on good!- Do yourself a FAVOR
So, as some may have read already, my wife's aunt is not doing good. As I type this she is actually out of the hospital! Death is a funny thing. Not literally funny, duh! What I mean is, is that there seems to be a pattern that occurs before someone passes. I do not believe this gets to happen with everyone, but for those who are terminal and are slowly dying. My wife's family witnessed this sort of occurrence on several occasions. When someone is terminal and only has so long to live, they experience this sort of roller coaster ride. Once word gets out about it, generally family will come and see the person. Before the visits, the person usually will have a couple close calls before the family visits. Usually, thats why the family will come to visit! When family finally arrives, the terminal person usually will perk up and seem to do good and their condition seems to improve. Although, after the while, family has to leave. Their obligations in life do not usually allow them to stay for very long and be with the terminal person. After family leaves, the terminal person usually will do good for a little, and then the dive happens. Their condition will start to degrade and then pass on. They seem to be able to fight off their death. Then one day, they give up and they pass. I imagine this is how it is going to be for my wife's aunt. We have left her and said our good bye's, but her immediate family is still with her. Hence, why I think she is not in the hospital. Twice did she almost die before her family came. She almost died right before we arrived, and once while we were there. Once her family has to go back home, I do not think she is even going to be able to make it to the hospital and fight much more. I imagine she is going to pass sometime soon after at her house. Why do I bother even mentioning this, you must wonder? Because, there is something about this we can all relate to. You see, this whole thing could have been prevented. But there are CERTAIN life choices people make that do not look at like they are something that will impact their lives FOREVER! She has COPD. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. You can get COPD from many things, but there is ONE that takes the CAKE. SMOKING She smoked cigarettes all her life, and she still sometimes smoke now. EVEN while she is DYING! The addiction can be that strong. So this is what I PLEAD with you guys over. - STOP, or DO NOT EVER SMOKE! Right now, her husband still smokes. He has had mouth cancer and half his face is all screwed up from it! There kids smoke! Her husband is stubborn, and chooses not to quit. I find that to be selfish, frankly. My wife's parents stopped smoking. Her dad chews, which is still bad. Her mom stopped smoking because she ALSO got COPD from it! She is doing what she can to keep herself healthy and slow the affects of it. Heres the problem though. Even though you look at it like its your own life, it REALLY IS NOT. I look at this family that still CHOOSES to smoke even though they see their mother right before their eyes dying from the same thing they are doing! The people have kids as well... Think of how stupid, selfish, and IRRESPONSIBLE this is! They are setting examples for their kids to follow. Where in the HELL does it make it okay? From everything I have seen in my wife's family, there will NEVER be a single day that I will take up smoking cigarettes! I see EXACTLY where smoking gets you. On a hospital bed, fighting for air, and bloated like a fish. You cannot move or do much as it takes all your energy just to sit up or even talk! STOP SMOKING! DO NOT EVER SMOKE! Think, what kind of legacy are you leaving behind for those who look up to you? I don't want anyone to remember me as the one who struggled to breathe and how much pain and heartache I gave my family dying over the simple fact I smoked cigarettes. God help me, my wife has asthma, and asthma can develop into COPD as well. She never smoked, but I think she got it because her parents did. I think she suffered from second-hand smoking... A little bit to try and think about next time you go to light one up...- Oil Leaks...
:banghead: So when I did the KDP fix, I bought the fel-pro set. Which came with a 1year warranty. Well, I do not have any proof of purchase, cause I threw the receipt away. To get a crank seal, its in the range of $30-40! Man, this sucks! My question is this: - In order to do the crank seal, can I remove the seal without removing everything again just to get the cover off? Or can I just take the dampener off and can remove the seal then? --- Update to the previous post... http://forum.mopar1973man.com/threads/3166-Crank-seal-amp-timing-gear-cover-gasket-install ^So I pray this is NOT the boat I'm in?!- A little package came...
I put it in neutral so the drivetrain is not being parasitic to the momentum I want to gain. All the "stored" energy from descending is what I want to use to further my distance when I come off the hill so I can go fruther before I lose my speed and have to use the GO pedal again.I'd like to get my exhaust brake soon so I can use it when I need and not use the brakes, instead. How does pulling a trailer and getting the pyro's up clean the injectors? If the injectors are all coked up, thats carbon, is it not? Carbon is a great insulator... Does not make sense to me...I'm back home now. I was heavy on the pedal during my stay with some hasty trips to and fro. Kamiah to Grangeville. 45 min drives on steep grades and windy roads. All in all though, being as conservative as possible when I can, I got 19 mpg when I filled up in CDA. It was definitely a weird experience seeing my trip odometer at 450 some odd miles!ALSO, DAP set the pop pressure at 300 bar. Would there be any advantage setting them to 310 bar?As for my aunt, everyones time does come. We have made our effort to see her, and be right with her. We all know we love each other and wish the best. Although, when we were down there, she did not pass. I count on that being the last time we will see her in this life. It was hard walking away from her in the hospital knowing that.- Not a Good day
...man, this is just not a good month! My wifes aunt is on her last leg and in the hospital fighting for her life from COPD... Its hard to walk away from a person in the family, knowing its gonna be the last time you will see them in this life. Do yourself a HUGE favor. Be there for your mom as much as possible. Don't regret anything and make sure you are right with her.- Oil Leaks...
I'm putting money on the turbo return line and crank seal.- what do you folks think???
...its just mineral oil.- A little package came...
Alright, boys! After driving 6 hours and 261 miles later, I have made my destination! My wifes aunt is on her death bed. :banghead:Drove from Sandpoint down through Lewiston and off to Grangeville. After visiting her in the hospital, made our way from there to Kamiah.I gotta tell ya, these people are NUTS! People are driving these windy roads like its a rally car race! The stupidity! On the other hand, I had to slow down for 4 snow-plow trucks on the way down here and had to deal with cross-winds, etc. Nothing major...The lewiston grade was kinda fun... Did 70mph all the way down! Coasted that one in neutral. Had to brake a few times and it sure gotthe brakes HOT. If my truck does not need anymore TLC, the exhaust brake is next on the list!Performance was A+! I'm here at the relatives house and hand calculated with my estimated fuel consumption, to be 22.28mpg! :ahhh:Thats a 6! Yes, 6 MILE TO THE GALLON INCREASE! I've been trying to keep off the throttle as much as possible. Seems to be working good?I suppose we shall see on the way back. As everything is going to be an uphill battle...As for the oil goes, I'm gonna check it out in the morning. I will start another thread on this, but I think I got 2 oil leaks going...- A little package came...
So do you think I will be okay driving it without changing the oil? That way I can see what the oil level does? I have put 3,782 miles on this batch of oil...- Oil composition to change!
Apparantly exactly the same kind of reason why we need to have urea for our exhaust. Emissions! You know what I consider an environmental pollutant? The empty talk they give us while their a politician...- A little package came...
The first image you uploaded did not show. Only saw the 2nd one. Heck, I would think you would not be able to get an injector to even go in right if you had double washers... Okay, so I went out and took some oil and put it on a paper towel. Heres the results: ^ After 5 minutes or so Right after the dipstick application Added a dime After sitting 2 minutes- A little package came...
:banghead: ...you know how much time that could have saved me? When I approach a service intervale for the injectors, I'll check the tubes then and see if they have changed conditions. Then I will know if something is up besides the injectors... I went and bought 3 gallons of Chevron Delo 400LE to do an oil change. I'll take a picture of the current crankcase oil and put it on a paper towel so you guys can see. I'll need a response real soon though. Cause if I need to do an oil change, I gotta get it done tonight. BTW, I was worried about whether or not I installed the injectors correctly because I read that you can have a small leak and not know it.. Also, I read and was told that if an injector is not operating properly, the oil can become diluted from the diesel through this means.- A little package came...
I don't think I need to get new tubes. The ends were just fine. The truck idles really smooth, so I don't think I have any leaking... Now, tell me! How in the WORLD do you pull the connector tubes without removing the hardlines? This is a SECRET that I MUST know!- Oil composition to change!
I have no sources to prove this so, but, if it concerns you so, try and look it up. I'm sure you can find some info on it.Thanks to the good ol' EPA, the composition of our oil is soon to change!I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I figure redunancy can't hurt when it comes to this. We all know diesel fuel is getting the strangle on lubricity. Well, so is our oil!Coming early 2013, the EPA is mandating that diesel crankcase oil will no longer contain the additive zinc. Gasoline vehicles already have that slashed from their oil. Diesel is soon to see it as well! From what I was told though, they are replacing the zinc with another "like" additive. Whether or not it will perform like zinc, I dunno. But, I figure to give you guys a heads up on the subject so you are in the KNOW.Whether or not that compels you to stock up on oil that still has the zinc is up to you...For those of you who do not know why zinc is important to the oil, zinc is in the oil to reduce the wear on the metal to metal contact surfaces. Some people have sworn up and down that their cams have been worn down to nothing because of the absence of zinc...- A little package came...
See, what gets me is that I can't even think how the connector tubes remotely even seal to the injector body at all. It has to be a precision machined fit to the mating surfaces for there not to be ANY leakage... It worries me that I may not have them perfectly mated... ugh... :banghead: But, I did insert the injector, then the tube, and the hold-down plate. So they have to be mated correctly... ...some things, they drive me crazy!!!! So, it sounds like I'm just gonna play it safe and get my oil changed. I called a couple people and they suggested an oil anlysis. But I'm afraid of having too much in the oil right now. I've got a long trip to make soon and I do not want the engine to get damaged from the trip. - Crank seal
