Help! In a tire quandry...
Nice wheels... It sucks man. I'm wondering why the trailer tires are craping out like that.

One of those Oh Crap Moments!!
So glad this wasn't me! It appears something happened to the wires causing them to hang too low. Until these (2) 18 wheelers took them down. One North bound, one South bound. Actually, early today, Sunday morning, they were supposed to put them back up. These were High Voltage supp;y lines. Lucky no one way killed, either electrically or in the pile up following. If National Grid was at fault, we'll never hear any more about it! Russ NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. -- Massachusetts State Police said a truck driver was injured when his northbound tractor-trailer rig struck overhead power lines that sagged across Interstate 95 in North Attleborough. The accident closed the highway for more than two hours Thursday afternoon between exits 4 and 5, backing up traffic for miles. Police said truck driver, identified as 45-year-old Joseph Irorere, of Brockton, stopped, got out of his rig and suffered an electrical shock. He was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition. "He sustained an electrical burn. The person right behind him, the way I understand it, was a doctor. He was able to assist in the treatment of this individual," said Deputy Chief Glenn Livesey of the Attleboro Fire Department. Police said a second tractor-trailer on the southbound side of the interstate also struck the power lines and stopped. He was not injured. Police said at least four cars were damaged. The highway reopened after National Grid utility workers shut down power to the lines and removed them. National Grid said it's investigating why the wires sagged so low. NBC 10 News contributed to this report. Story with picture: http://www2.turnto10.com/news/2012/aug/17/7/sagging-power-lines-blamed-i-95-mess-ar-1140081/

Help! In a tire quandry...
Some people think I'm OCD... I travel with jacks, wheel chocks & what ever blocks I used to park the trailer... I have had to drop the trailer some places. A few come to mind... One, to get an angle to turn around. One, a vendor blew the transmission in his F brand truck, had the truck towed out of camp & I had the only other gooseneck hitch in camp. (Interestingly, he'd blew out 4 NEW radial tires on his trailer this trip. A very costly trip!) I stopped behind a horse trailer, not far from the Horse Camp... They had enough help so I just waited to make sure they didn't need anything. Nice NEW 2012 Dodge Cummins 3500 dually. They used a ramp and then a jack to get the trailer high enough to put the trailer spare on. I retraced the mile to the camp... tried to see what got the tire. It was hard to see but I'm pretty sure I saw a tire track n the grass... I think the driver cut the corner leaving camp (new truck, first trip of the year). Remember, the trailer always turns inside the tow vehicle. I think he clipped the last boulder on the tumble down stone wall. I looked to me like the tires went over this 12" x 12" x 24" rock. As they were changing the tire, they had to baling wire a loose 2 x 2 L bracket under the trailer, dangerously close to the front trailer rite. I figure they dragged the trailer floor over the rock, busting loose the frame bracket... before the tires lifted & rolled the loaded trailer over the rock. (Must have been some ride for the horses!) Eventually... just a mile down the road.. the bracket flopped over & took out the inside sidewall... BANG!! When I pull Right out of our street... both roads narrow 2 lane... I go way over on my wrong side and then swing onto the wrong side of the road I'm going onto. Once the trailer axles clear the telephone pole I cut back in...

My 01.5 8800 gvw came OEM with & still running 265/75R16 Mich ATX. AT. I wouldn't call this tread AT but the maker does. More of a highway tread to my eye. My doorjam sticker ays 245 noy withstanding the rubber hat came on the truck.

Smokers and Grillers Thread
It wasn't mine but the best bbq I've seen was a huge propane tank... maybe 10 feet long. Even with counter weights the top cover needed a winch. Freakin tank was like 1/2" thick. They must have brought in hardwood charcoal in a dump truck. The guys ran an auto repair & welding shop in front (specializing in raised roof bus conversions) & had a wedding site by the pond out back. A little cookout for 1000 of your closest friends. SORRY, no digital picts. Must be in the film archive.

Where do you run gauges through the firewall
I ran through this same hole BUT it's getting crowded. I thought after that there was a good spot to the right of the steering column to come out between the engine & the steering in the engine compartment. Want to be high enough up to minimize water splash and with no obstructions to deal with. Has anyone done this?

fuel canister
I bought 1/2" radiused fittings from Vulcan. I plumbed through the OEM can & replaced the filter with a better one. It should last "forever" behind the AD.

YP44 pump tester for sale locally for $150...should I buy it???
I'm guessing it might me an electrical box which plugs in in place of the ECM to test the VP44. I've never heard of one before. I searched & found these. http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/bosch-vp44-pump-tester.html http://www.12psdw.com/product/VP44-Tester-Simulator.html

This is how mine is. So long as straw & return are both in the basket, it's fine.

Tire blew up!
Oooops!! I'm still runnnng the OEM 265/70R16 Michelin LTX A/T's my truck came with... never struck me as much of an AT tread tire.

Can we say dumb@$$?
At least wifee knows to put diesel in it AND my premeasured dose of TCW3... I find the container in the back floor...
-
Can we say dumb@$$?
I hate to even let the wife drive my truck... I refused to let the daughter drive it. Between the diesel & the sheer length of the thing, one really needs to be on top of things. Wifee was complaining about towing the landscapers trailer 8' wide, 16' platform. Daughter is buying her first house, I can see moving day looming ahead. The landscaper's trailer & a couple of tarps has actually been very good at moving. This time it's a family of 4.Wife's (late) first husband taught her to drive a horse van & tow horse trailers, but she's gotten used to her roller skate in recent years. I guess I only have myself to blame because I'd rather drive than let her. Dearest daughter has never driven't large to my knowledge.

Tire blew up!
I'm still running the ORIGINAL 2001 Michilins... low miles, still under 60,000. The legal tread remaining is worn evenly. I would not replace tires just because they are "old". I would take the remains of that tire & the pieces I could recover to the manufacter's district rep. Original tire treads should not come apart... it's not like recaps... Even my tires with (aledgely) broken belts didn't come apart. A little more on the history of the broken belt set (only 1 of 4 tires failed), was dear daughter went back to school, left the dead car here for a year before we got her permission to junk it & salvaged the tires. So those tires likely were flat spotted. But they drove prefect for a couple of years before the vibration started. It took be 4 years to run the tires out on the Cirrus.I expect tire bodies to last the length of the original tread. This one didn't for you & I'd be asking why.
-
Tire blew up!
I've never seen a original tire come apart. The front end guy insisted I had broken belt on the Cirrus. Some no name winter tires dear daughter bought just before her Pontiac Sunbird croaked. I inhereted them because they fit my car. I'd been trying to get the vibration fixed for 2 years or more... probably drove 30,000 miles on it that way. Replacing the tire in question did indeed fix it. Then again, I don't drive Firestones on a Expedition. And I'm alive to tell about it. Pictures of the tire?? What did it look like?

Tire blew up!
On our way home from camp in June, we had an 18 wheeler blow the tire on the trailer. Right Outside on the front trailer axle... looked like he'd run over the tazmanian devil. A cloud under the truck... flying chunks of rubber tire & tube... kept right on driving. Sheila was in front of me with her new car & darted into the other lane... I couldn't "dart" with the rig but tried to avoid the worst of it... I must live right or something (maybe I shouldn't push my luck)... I had an iron bar which came off a 18 wheeler in front of me (gosh) it's been 4 years. Coming back from camp with the horse trailer on... No chance to dodge it & hit it with the right side tires on truck & trailer... The 18 wheeler behind me hit it too. We both pulled over to check for damage... I had several people notice the horse trailer & stop to offer to help (get water) but we had water on (opened doors for ventilation & watered the horse while we were stopped). We had just stopped... a car hit the steel & took out the headlight, fender & front tire. The trucker who was stopped & myself wrote out statements on notepaper for the guy's insurance. Last I saw he was waiting for a tow... we got the heck outta Dodge as we were not in a good spot...

VP44 HELP in Nicholasville/LEX KY Area
My 01.5 had the block mounted lift pump & pickup in the basket in the tank. The basket has strainers which limit the flow but also keep crud out of the pickup. A lot of guys just swiss cheese the basket. An alternative is bith the pickup & return outside the basket. You can't just trasj the assembly as it includes the fuel sender. I hear some mod the unit out of a Jeep instead.

Can we say dumb@$$?
It's been years since I borrowed a vehicle... but when I did, I returned it with a FULL fuel tank at my expense, as a thankyou for the privledge of a loan I wanted/needed. I felt it was the right thing to do.Which truck is it?

Can we say dumb@$$?
He does not deserve a CTD. What Idiot doesn't know to keep plenty of fuel in it? It's not rocket science. Go to the pump, put fuel in, pay the nice man, drive off.

VP44 HELP in Nicholasville/LEX KY Area
Well for gosh sakes, stop driving it until you can get FP back up! Save that VP44. Just remember with the old style AD... both suction & return must be either in or out of basket... or basket must be opened up. (The stock basket will not flow 150.) If you don't do this, under certain conditions you can draw air with 1/4 fuel left in tank. The majority of these engines does not "use" 150, with the excess being returned to the tank... therefore the requirement that the pickup & return be in the same part of the fuel tank.

Slightly disappointed with MPG's
I'm sure someone must have compared the 12V vs 24V cams, flow & timing... enlighten me. The 24V was built from the ground up as a smogged engine. By defination almost, a less efficient engine.
-
Slightly disappointed with MPG's
ISX... Unfortunately the 12V & 24V are two different critters. I'm sure the VP44, for all of it's adjustability, has smog setting built into the circuit boards. We can tweak them with chips & programers... but it would take a really smart dude to build a new board with pre-smog parameters. IMHO, the problem with smog controls is that it ignores effiency. The criterion should be least polution per mile worked... but we all know this.

Death Wobble Jeep?
I had an invisible broken belt on the Cirrus... but it sure was felt. I had the tires ballanced with it... never picked up on it. My front end shop was very certain... was right!

Cirrus Heater / AC
Any Ideas?

VP44 HELP in Nicholasville/LEX KY Area
My stock lift pump lost power from a bad connection on the ground side a few inches from the neg battery connection. Clean all your battery & other secondary connections. My mechanic got it running on the stock pump... I clipped the pigtail off the OEM pump & spliced in into the AirDog Harness for the new AD150 I had installed. I was lucky... perhaps because I run the 2 cycle oil to lub my VP44... my VP44 survived.
