Turbo opinions
You're in the 500 HP neighborhood, give or take a little. I'd probably run a 7x.011" from DFI, or maybe CPP.

Have you dyno'd that setup? I'd say you're not quite to the limit of the VP44. DDP is kind of known for being warm and dirty... A better quality injector might go a long way.

Bought Me a First Gen
I ended up putting trans rebuild on hold longer than I wanted to. I just had too much other stuff going on, plus I needed a shop press to finish disassembling the output shaft. Press should be here next week, and then I can make some headway. Did a few things to the truck in the mean time... Longer power screw, because the stock one bottomed out before reaching maximum power potential from the screw. Nice bump in power, but added a lot of smoke, so I did some more tuning to try and clean it up. And I got tired of blowing the 2.5"-3" coupler on the charge pipe coming from the turbo, and not having much faith in the other intercooler boots, so I upgraded to a 3" outlet off of the volute, and better 3"x6" boots. I squeezed 38 PSI out of the HX35. Now I need some constant torque clamps. Next is finish the trans and install the clutch. Then new gauges, injectors and a turbo. Not sure if I'm going to do head work before or after the injectors & turbo - depends on how anxious I get. (head work meaning, o-rings, maybe some P&P)

Lift Pump Delay
Any chance a reflash could cure it?

Lift Pump Delay
From what I've read, that seems to bee accurate. I need to get a meter that reads low enough AC voltage so I can check for AC noise. That could be the root of this problem.

Lift Pump Delay
Check grounds first. Find out what the other code is, out of curiosity. Keep an eye out for a good used ECM. Drive it til it quits. Sell it and buy a 12 valve. (joking)

Lift Pump Delay
Dang if you aren't right. I had a few minutes (in the dark) to look at the truck. Tested for power in the PDC at the VP relay. Power delay is the same, just like with the lift pump. And I feel like a real dumb@ss. I never payed attention to the WTS light. My scangauge was blocking it, so I couldn't see it. It is indeed, a delayed wait to start. Not every time though, like I've mentioned before. The obd on this truck have never cooperated. I have 4 codes, but can only read a couple of them. 1689 from unplugging the relay. 0234 from overboost. Obviously 1693, but I can't read the 4th code.

That's my next step, to check the VP44 relay. I haven't had time.

Lift Pump Delay
No sir, that's not really the situation. I'm aware of hot hard starts with after market fuel systems, and my issue is different. Temperature, both ambient and engine temp dont affect starting the truck. This lift pump key-on delay began about a year after installing the complete FASS kit with harness and relay. I randomly get a delay of the prime sequence, which has been traced back as far as the stock lift pump harness, which should rule out any FASS problems. I've used a test light at the stock lift pump plug, and the ecm does not provide power, until 4-5 seconds after the key is turned on. But it only acts up 50% of the time. During the delay, before the pump primes, if I try to start the engine, it cranks over for several seconds, creating a hard start. (See video a few posts back) I think I ruled out the hard start being caused by a loss of prime, with the procedure stated a couple posts above. Sorry if we're going in circles, but I haven't had time to do any more diagnosis. Thanks for all the help so far.

Lift Pump Delay
Correct dripley, in that order. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Just did the same process a minute ago, after the truck sat for 24 hrs. Started right up.

Lift Pump Delay
Thanks for responding. I will check the relay's operation. Corrosion is minimal, just dusty. I had the needle valve on the gauge closed too far. If I crack it open, I get instant 20 psi. Today the truck sat on level ground for 8-9 hours. I pulled the FASS relay to make sure the pump wouldn't prime when I turned the key, then I put the relay back in, and the truck fired up instantly, with no priming, after sitting all day. I doubt it's losing prime, causing the hard start. I will park it up hill to verify that though.

Lift Pump Delay
Here's a video. This was after about 10 lift pump prime cycles in the previous half hour or so while I was testing for power, and literally seconds before I shot this video, the truck was running, so i find it hard to believe it's losing prime that fast. Still possible, but very confusing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8YgBzaU8PQ&feature=youtu.be

Lift Pump Delay
That's kinda what I was thinking. I'm working on getting the videos on YT. I uploaded them here from my tablet first. I need to do that, and see if there's a difference up hill or down hill. Yes, it's a complete kit from FASS, but the FASS harness plugs into the stock harness, so it gets triggered by the ECM. Power was intermittent at the stock harness' plug. I still have a video to upload showing that, so bear with me. And I have not contacted FASS yet. I'm not sure if I fully understand what you mean, sorry. I randomly get intermittent power from the ECM while key is on, but when the truck is running, it powers the relay/lift pump just fine. Hopefully when I get these videos up it can give us all some better understanding.

Lift Pump Delay
I did some poking around with a test light, and found the issue still occurring at the factory lift pump harness, with the FASS harness unplugged. So I think that rules out any FASS issues? I took several videos while testing, so I will try to get those posted soon. The hard start baffles me. Hopefully the video works, and y'all can see what I'm talking about. Judging by the symptoms, you'd think there's a bad loss of prime, but I haven't found a leak yet. Lift Pump Delay
1 out of every 2 key cycles, (on average) it will delay, regardless if it's the first one of the day, or I've been running it all day. 20 PSI idle, minimal drop up to WOT. Filters are fresh. No difference at different fuel levels. I haven't done enough testing to see if it changes whether it's up hill or down hill... Working on doing that. WTS acts normal.

Lift Pump Delay
I've been having an issue with the lift pump not doing the prime cycle when the key is turned on. Every other time the key is turned to the "on" position, it will take 5-6 seconds for the lift pump to do it's 2 second prime. Once the truck is actually started, the pump runs fine and acts normal. If I try to start the truck once the key is on, and before the pump has ran, the truck will not start, it just turns over. If I immediately turn the key off after cranking, then the pump will run for 25 seconds, even after a the key is off. I'm running a FASS HPFP, and this issue started about a year after I installed the new system. I've checked connections, and all seems to be good. When the key is turned, and the delay happens, the FASS relay does not click, so that tells me (most likely) the ECM is not triggering the relay. I did some reading, and it seems like a fairly common issue, and most people say the ECM is at fault, and the best thing to do is make a new circuit and put the pump on a switch. Although, the truck should start without the 2 second priming sequence, if the fuel system is staying primed. (like with a mechanical pump) So I'm in the process of tracking down any fuel leaks. I also thought about excessive AC noise causing this?? Possible... But my meter doesn't read low enough to test it. Any opinions, or anything else to test?

Flooded out.
Guys, keep The_Hammer in your thoughts and prayers, as well as all of the other flood victims in Texas. This flooding is all happening again, starting last Thursday, and it's even worse than before, when this thread was started. Rivers are cresting at record highs, so I would imagine it is even worse that The_Hammer's pictures posted above.

Bought Me a First Gen
The transmission was locked up when I got it. I filled the case up with WMO, and after a week or so, I got it broke free. After spinning it over by hand, it knocked off most of the surface rust, and surprisingly, the gears look pretty good. My fingers are still crossed, and I won't determine if they're usable until I pull them apart and go over them thoroughly. The shift cover is now submerged in oil. Hopefully it will free up the roll pins and the rails will come out with ease. This is my first time inside any kind of transmission, so it will definitely be a learning experience.

Bought Me a First Gen
I bought a piston lift pump, waiting to get installed. Bought a core Getrag 360 to rebuild. This thing was advertised as a fresh rebuild that has sat for a couple years. I popped the top cover, and.... So I bought it for 200 bucks, and I'm in the process of tearing it apart, and see what all needs replaced. Bearings and synchros obviously, but I'm hopping gears or shafts aren't too pitted. Another video, because I was bored. To give you an idea of how slow it is, I let out at 60 MPH.

Sorry to hear this, Mike. But I'm with the rest of the guys... You can handle this, no problem! Did you make any more headway tearing into it?
