  1. I know!! Now that she's mine..... time to start figuring out whats going on. I was running in 5th, about 2200 rpm (just under 60 mph) I was also running into the wind with that backwards mounted 'parachute'.. That particular trailer has NEVER pulled 'easy'... I'm wondering about checking the alignment on the axles???? tire wear isn't the best!
  2. Just found a pic of overflow valve.. I always figured when pressure was below 14 psi, there was NO return to tank... Not true! there is a second unregulated port (free flow) that always allows at least a little flow Probably there for 2 reasons... to help allow air out... and to ensure some cooling no matter how pathetic the lift pump is.. are you wanted to test it for 'amount of return' ?? Or to see if it's stuck open ?
  3. OK.. :CALLING ALL FLATBED OWNERS!!!! needing some pics of various ways of mounting!.... For sale.. lol, fairly decent drw 'tubs'..
  4. LOL... 'what FiL wants..... FiL gets" His truck is a 2012 Chev 1500... speaking of which, I actually drove that thing the other day... He likes keeping it topped off with E85, when it's available. yah, it's a flex fuel.. The one thing I find totally awkward on that truck is the automatic door locks.. I feel like a trapped rat.. I gotta admit, that thing will get up and boogie... (when traction control is turned off) So, soon as I sign over the title to the bumper pull to FIL, he'll sign over the title to the '00 Ram... I am now the 'owner' of the truck in my sig.. I paid $5800 for the trailer. $1850 for the flatbed
  5. Finally! got the 'green light' from the Manufacturer... THE PAINT WAS DRY!!! Ordered a 16' bumper pull livestock trailer for my FiL, and a new flatbed for the '00 Ram... Both are Circle D, made in Hillsboro Kansas. They've been back ordered since June.. Lets just say, this was NOT the most aerodynamically way to haul! This was a 140 mile trip one way, and used 10 gallons to get there, and 20 to get home. notice the sliver of Toyota pickup on left border... ha ha. and the Wally world 2 stroke jug on ground..
  6. So, after several days of searching... I've come up with 2005-2006 were the years Jeep used the VM 2.8 turbodiesel. rated @ 160 HP.. 5 speed automatics only trans. (Dodge 545 RE trans)... same trans behind the hemi. Some typical problems to watch for on this engine: EGR system sucks. (loads the intake with oil and soot) Certain throttle positions and vehicle speeds will cause 'TC shudder' Both of these can be easily fixed with 'tunes' and an upgrade to the European version TC . Green diesel engineering has that covered... "with upgrades to performance" ECO tune, Hot tune... can see HP to 180-210.. Then there is the turbo upgrade. Pretty impressive numbers then... Liberty uses the Dana 30 front end, and 8.25 inch corporate rear axle. Since this is a major 'interference' engine, keeping the Timing belt 'fresh' is very important. 100k is recommended. Although, It seems like they knew about this, and have what they call "BREAK AWAY" rockers.. hmmmm, to help with limiting the destruction of the head/piston/block I suppose! Then there is the glo plug breaking-off causing major damage issue too.. This is a dry sleeved engine, Iron block, aluminum dual OH cammed head. CR is the fuel system, but uses no lift pump. Sounds like the Dodge Ram diesel in- tank lift pump is a popular mod being done. Engine parts are still available, although I've read where sometimes a person has to wait for them to be shipped from Italy. I'm assuming these are unibody chassis.. ... I've been thinking about a 'family truckster'.... piling 3 of us into the '94 toyo pickup isn't very fun!
  7. I used to think that 'buying the extra tags' would get you by... but I think they (DOT) are starting to look at the little 'sticker' on the door post! If you are overloading the truck... it's not 'safe'...
  8. All 3 pumps have a rotor that pumps the same gph regardless of engine load, speed... only voltage change will cause some variance... Now, any positive displacement pump must either 'deliver' the fluid.... or stall out. The fuel must go somewhere. So, all three use a bypass.....AFTER the rotor.. FASS and Airdog send the unused fuel back to tank.. Raptor has an internal circuit that sends the excess back to the inlet side of the pump itself.
  9. That lift pump is going to move "X" amount no matter what: WOT, Idle, or stalled engine! (at least until the pump shuts down) What happens immediately afterward ( excess is either returned immediately to tank via lift pump bypass, or the overflow at vp.. the rest is injected The amount of fuel per hour going up the draw straw is pretty constant, regardless of engine speed
  10. Bingo. When there is 2 regulators within a system- lets face it. the overflow act as one too, there must be some 'fighting' back and forth or 'lag' within the hydrodynamic pressure 'wave'. Now... add the fact that the engine is taking some out of this loop at different rates.... plus all the above mentioned possibilities thrown in.. OH, btw, you ever check to see what kind of vacuum you have on your fuel tank after a long run?
  11. And when you put 2 rows on top... ya gotta strap em down.. It's just as fast to go single row, take more trips... than fool around with straps! I used to do it that way, and it's almost guaranteed the top row will cave-out as soon as you release the binders!... I hate running for my life!!!
  12. whoo! ya'll still do the "Chicken Dance" up there when you are happy?
  13. couple of mid 2000's for sale around here, and wondered what's the good bad and ugly on these 4 cylinder diesels? rated at 160 hp... is that correct??
  14. LOL... 'gas axe'... 'hot wrench'.. The only thing I don't like about torching out a bad cross, is when the grease explodes...plus the stink of burning rubber seals..
  15. I've 'graduated' up to torching out the old cross! cut the ol girl across the 'cross'.. and viola! tap tap.. home free.
  16. you do the brakes? ummm, check your driveshaft for dents. fresh gouges, missing weights... etc. reason I ask: sometimes overzealous guys get a little sloppy aligning the lift under the vehicle... and hook/snare the prop shaft.. If it's vibrating THAT bad due to ujoint.... you should be able to hear it clunk snap... going from D to R In your best guess.... what's the frequency of the vibration? chainsaw type buzz... or more like a flat spot on a tire? Tires @ 60mph are running about 450-500 rpm.. so it'd be about 8 thumps per second..
  17. the only reason I said sloshing may cause pulses... is from my experience pulling a 1300 gallon sprayer tank in the field. zero baffles. Pump inlet was at the front bottom of tank... and as the water 'hit' the front of the tank... I could see quite a spike in 'after pump' pressure I'd normally run 25 psi, and it'd spike upwards to 30. Just a thought that may kinda apply here. Mike made a good point on the 'too high' of straw... I've also wondered about whirlpools forming @ straw, and momentarily drawing a gulp of air. I've also wondered about the air entrapped yah, I know there are air removal systems/filters that send foam and bubbles back to tank... but! Think about the total volume being supplied to lift pump! If suddenly 'X' amount is returned to tank (via the foam and air return) . then the total amount (volume) offered for downstream use will change. I look at it as 'head' available. I really don't think there is a thing wrong here, it's just hydrodynamics at work. We can't expect a rock solid pressure side when supply side can swing either way.
  18. I think the mechanical gauges are going to show 'road rage'... you have jiggling within a line, fluid motion can't be too far behind.... another thing I've never seen mentioned is fuel tank sloshing. when the fuel sloshes past the pickup... there would be a tendency for a little 'spike' in overall lift pump efficiency.. and vice versa. probably way more noticeable when tank is pretty low... Perhaps the Isspro is sensitive enough that you guys are 'seeing' the fluctuations of any or all of above?
  19. These symptoms start recently or been there the whole time? (2 years)?
  20. That's a scary prospect.... there are a LOT of $150k-250k CR tractors burning up fuel from those same tanks..
  21. meaning..... his 08 was probably a 'builder' too? flood, wreck??
  22. Dangit... I had our hay trailer on yesterday.. with 'made that day' green bales! Pretty as a picture hay! I should've had the camera out! LOL< same color pickup as yours, Maroon, but single cab... I have a Atchison mover, cradle type... self unloading. I can only haul 12 bales though. At 1750-1800#'s each, that's enough!
  23. you said your rear brakes 'locked' when you just 'touched' the pedal?? I'm leaning towards something other than sensor!
