fuel economy trouble shoot flow chart
unfortunately, here in Nebraska, 'what goes down, must come up'.. I'm always going uphill into the wind.. short of the programmer, I'm on top of this^^^ so, start checking the IAT and boost sensor? BTW.. 'mike'! dunno if you've seen this, but your site got BIG 'kudos' on a BC page..

Front and Rear bumper build
whatcha think it's up to now for weight? First time I had the oem off to knock some dents out.. my son came over and just stomped it with his foot and the dent came out perfectly!

Airdog quality
mine is about 2 years old, and is paper.. Not the thing to draw fuel through when it's -10 out! I wonder if they still at least 'offer' the steel mesh? (as a replacement part)

fuel economy trouble shoot flow chart
I know there are tidbits buried all through this site for 'doing this, doing that' to get the most out of the fuel dollar.. Is there a way to compile a trouble shoot- flow chart to guide a diy'er to systematically go through the entire system? especially when something has changed, or is getting worse.. Maybe start with the basics; from engine health, electronic health, driveline health (and of course driver mental health) ... which could have actual measurable values.. and where to start looking, measuring. Then go even further with member tried and true 'mods' that have helped. All stuffed into a neat easy to find/read type article?

Replaced water pump, now no start
when it did fire up after being locked.. it should've been a smoky old dog for a little bit. Was it? At least a pretty good puff puff puff.. until that cylinder dried up. Either oil or coolant would've done it. Just trying to eliminate if it's battery only.. did you power wash off the engine before this fix? Did you have the intake pipe off?

Replaced water pump, now no start
Couple things. Coolant leak. He said he 'just noticed' it that day. Did truck ever get hot in the days leading up? What kind of shape was the impellor and bearing? And the hydro lock. Ever figure out what was in the cylinder... coolant or engine oil?

Throttle Stab
Nope, yours is not normal.. I'm guessing your 'miss at all rpm's- 14 pages worth' is very much part of what you are hearing/feeling. Common trick is doing just what you did. a quick burp up to speed with no load gives a tuner something to listen for. Smoothness, gapless noise at the tailpipe. This is something that being in a moving vehicle under power and with the hood shut.... we'd never hear or feel. These days, we really can't do this in gas vehicles anymore! The computer is going bat crap because the vehicle is going 0 mph, and giving it a burst like this has it all over the place for mixture.. or other limiters kick in.

Fuel Gelling with 2-stroke oil
This is part of me and my neighbors problems with our winter woes. We get fuel from tank wagons that have delivered all types of fuel all summer. And their fuel is stored in 12k vertical tanks. No tank is designated 'bio only' I gotta believe when a transport comes in, fuel goes where fuel fits! I've had more than one load of French fry smelling fuel. Our delivery guy just hates the stuff.. Cold season fuel it ain't!

Well, the airdog, once again..
BC is the only one I've run across that even mentions the housing.. and what they do to for them. 'sleeve' or a new replacement bore housing? They talk about the very first run of 44's having a poor housing, and replace/.upgrade them right off the bat. Then they offer the computer in 3 flavors. Used, Rebuilt, New. Honestly, I don't know about any others. Basically double the price. Double the life and long lived fuel economy? I dunno!!!

boost fooler
Mike, are you saying your first post in this reply should've said 14.7 instead of 28.6? or are you giving this as an example of the differences the obdII in reading this sensor? Your reading of 28.6 PSIa At your altitude would be about ~ well, around 13-14 psi boost at idle... kinda high if actual! Just clarifying what was meant to be said here! I understand how the PSIa works.. it takes elevation in consideration because the gauge was set or based at 'O' atmospheres.. Where the PSIg is just measuring differences on the inside and outside of a vessel. Last time I had my Actron scanner on the truck, '28' iirc was what it was reading too @ idle.

An age When Bones Can't take it any longer
NO KIDDING! For some, its their thinking about health. For some it's animal rights. Others will go as far as 'global warming'.. (grains- only would feed a lot more people per acre, and less cattle farting and belching would 'save' the planet) My wife is diabetic, and so far able to diet control. POTATOES are the worst! instant sugar conversion. She's also a MSG reducer. She'd been feeling generally crappy for years, and tried low-to-non MSG foods. Dang if that didn't work like a charm!

ECM controlled lift pump
Mosfet? wazzat?

ECM controlled lift pump
Thanks guys. I asked just to see if that may have been a variable in erratic pressures. I'll cross that off the list! Still doesn't dismiss possible poor current coming from the ecm... which a relay would eliminate.

ECM controlled lift pump
Thanks! reason I asked was fuel lab's pumps can be controlled for rpms .. according to varying pressure needs at Idle and WOT... more for gasoline injected stuff I imagine...

Exhaust Kits
Man, this thread really enlightened me tonight! ONE thing that has always worried me about running in rough country... is scraping the exhaust on a dirt berm, or rocky outcropping.. and busting the turbo! With these clamps... there could be a 'breakaway' safety net here!
-
Exhaust Kits
are these clamps those band clamps.. about 3-4 inches wide? interesting! Are my eyes playing tricks on me.. or is this clamp being used on a slip joint... 2 different diameter pipe?
-
Exhaust Kits
threadjack What tires you running?? I'd price a complete custom one piece down at your local bender.. see if you could get the heavy stuff too! ya might be surprised If you could supply the down pipe, and the muffler, they couldn't gouge ya there either.

An age When Bones Can't take it any longer
curious.. how long did you wait to see benefits from the Glucosamine and chondroitin?

An age When Bones Can't take it any longer
I invested in an inversion table a couple years ago.. I dangle from it a couple times a week, sometimes just a couple times a month.. We all know the tell tale signs of the back getting ready to slip.. tightness in the lower back, the impending 'stingers' of pain getting ready to fly!... I'll hang upside down for a few minutes, take a couple ibuprofens, and good to go.. I've warded off the chiropractor since then. The trick is to do the maintenance before it's totally skewed up!

Well, the airdog, once again..
Just a google away! BRB! .... Meh, not much to report! same ol inlines or intank units.. Plus just as many posts in heavy truck forums wondering about vp44 failures...

Well, the airdog, once again..
I'm pretty sure they were still called BT's ; 4bt, 6bt, 4bta 6btaa.. until the CR system of 2005-2006, for OFF ROAD use. Then the designation went to ISB.. from that point, models would have the power rating along with the ISB; ISB140, ISB 170 are very common 4 cylinders, ISB 175 and up would've been the 6 cylinders. The IS stands for Interact System - it signifies that these engines have full electronic capability to interact with the transmission and other devices. The B part is a carryover from the old days when engines were given letters as released- Those P pumped motors had very little for electronic communication. Depending on tank location, Some power plants didn't even use a lift pump. The CP3 was doing it all. Most newer tractors have their fuel tanks at or slightly above the CP3's locale. My jeep for instance is a suck clear from tank instance of this, even though the top of the tank is definitely higher than the cp3. Ford and Freightliner are the only 2 others that used a vp44 pumped cummins in their mid size trucks, (Ford 650,750, and FL 50-60-70) that I am aware of. I wonder what THEY used to keep the 44 fed?

Well, the airdog, once again..
would need to jump the pond to find industrial (off road) vp 33 and 44's.. Our (N.A) had a 'gap' of about 7-8 years in the tier rating system for emissions. Light duty diesels, (found in cars, passenger use) was first. 'pickups' a few years later(1998.5) Big boys next,(2002 or '03) and by 2006 everything (off road too). Least with the cummins, we'd find p7100 pumps until 2006 in off road use.. From THAT point, (CR) then came the CATS, DEF, (yep, tractors. combines, have em too) Curious here, the ecm controls the fuel pump.. 'on or off'. did it also control SPEED of pump too?? So when engine idling, the FP 'idled down too'?? or was it balls-out 100% ?

Fuel Gelling with 2-stroke oil
LOL! First time I filled my Jeep CRD, little ol lady came bombing out of the store yelling " MISTER, MISTER!! YOU CAN'T PUT DIESEL IN THAT CAR!!!" It was a hoot!

Well, the airdog, once again..
Almost forgot the Mitusa kit. Only place I've seen it 'for sale' is www.opieparts.com They don't show much for a pic, or description.. or price far as that goes!
