Anyone know who makes the oem intercooler? I think I read somewhere it was Valeo? VALEO 817151

I think mine is leaking somewhere, need to do a boost leak test next weekend to verify, and I can't justify spending almost $900 for a Mishimoto, the cheapest one, when I can get oem for $400. Correct me if I'm wrong, but an aftermarket intercooler isn't going to net me much of anything with 100hp injectors, super b, quadzilla xzt and not towing really heavy.

  • Pressure test and if leaking...buy a good used one. Do not spend big money on an aftermarket or oem replacement.

An aftermarket intercooler will do absolutely nothing for you.... I don't think it did a thing for me (other than make the engine run hotter) and I've got a bit more on the performance side.

I'd try and find a good used one or wherever you can get an OEM style one.

Intercooler I think comes into play more so in track and racing. When you playing with big fuel and lots of EGT heat. The standard daily drive will not see any benefit to upgraded intercooler.

@jlbayes would you consider welding a blown seam or still stick with a used replacement?

That's not like you to do something like that?

I did not want to buy a used stock cooler and ruin it for no reason. I had just started separating the tubes. It needs an aftermarket cooler to be honest. Just the one I want is 2k. Other priorities right now lol

I took a quick look. Just never saw how much came with it. For that kind of money it ought to come with some kind of bonus.

I hooked up a fernco and pvc fitting to the turbo, ran 20psi through it and had air coming out the crankcase breather and turbo to downpipe connection. Sprayed what I could see of the intercooler with soapy water, no bubbles on the end tanks or boot connections. No bubbles on the manifold or anywhere else. Are these intercoolers known to leak in the middle? Meaning pull the intercooler and test it individually?

Thanks @jlbayes, hoping it's just my turbo to downpipe connection that's making noise. 7x.009 SACs appear to be more smokey than 7x.009 VCOs. DAPs vs DFIs too.
