Jag1, you'd be much happier with projectors if you can afford them. I retrofitted my own, but it's time consuming. For a little more money you can buy a complete set, it comes with a relay.

I spliced into the starter solenoid switched from column. There are products in the market that do the same in other ways.

I'm thinking about switching vp wire, maybe ground? If there is one. That way if something shortens out it won't fry anything. Reason for vp switch is even if you disabled starter and it a stick you can roll start it.

I believe there is a way to switch the VP but don't know the specifics.  I definitely wouldn't disable the lift pump...since our VP's will start and run still but be killing itself in the process.  Only thing worse than a stolen truck is a stolen truck with a dead VP. ?

The reason most anti-theft systems disable the starting system is after the engine is started the starter is just along for the ride.  If the fuel or ignition system has a disable switch and the engine cuts out while driving because of it there may be an accident.  The liability is just to great.

I guess if someone wants something that bad they'll probably figured it out one way or another. Maybe I'll just switch the starter remote wire.

Or which one would you recommend that's easiest inside the cab. It won't be used all the time either, only on the rare occasion.

I'm thinking I need to do something along those lines too because as I read the news it seems crime is increasing everywhere. Don't blame me for blaming the Dems for this scenario of everything is okay, hand out agenda. They are raising a generation that thinks they don't have to earn it.

I really like the appearance of the sport headlights but with halogen bulbs seeing at night on a dark road was marginally if that better than the factory original yellowed headlights. After many years of experience with  expensive HID's that were far from reliable in other vehicles I have owned I decided to give LED's a chance in the sport headlights on my 01. I'm went with a mid priced LED headlight and have been pretty satisfied, especially when I'm in BFE with no street lights.

Interesting timing.  I also have been running halogen bulbs in a sport headlight setup.  I just installed the Hikari standard LED 9007 bulbs.  The light beam was actually better than I expected and doesn't interfere with oncoming traffic, but I had to change an o-ring size to take up the slack in the adjuster part of the bulb assembly - the weight of the wiring was rotating the bulb so it would not stay in position.

 

My sport headlights are wired in the OEM manner, are yours wired the same way?  Also, did you have any issues with the rotational adjustment on the new LED's?

 

Another more expensive LED version (called SNGL) I am considering has two adjustments - in and out and rotational.

@Tractorman I'm actually just running the LED 9007's. I have standard halogen 9004's in the high beams just plugging holes. I may buy a set of 9004's someday and wire them up in OEM sport configuration. SNGL's are good, I have some in the fogs.

We're they morimoto's or eBay special. So far I had seen only good reviews about the morimoto's, that's why I decided to give it a shot. So far it's worth every penny. I do need to buy a spare set of bulbs to have them with me just in case, I don't think you can just buy them at parts store.

In my Mustang right now I have Morimoto that are about 3 years old. I started having flickering on the left headlight then finally nothing. Turns out the ballast took a poop. I've had various brands and it's always been ballast failures. I love the light output of HID but hate wondering if they are going to turn on.

As for LED headlights I wish they would be outlawed. Most of the LED headlight bulbs are horrid and blinding. Like my HID's have a good cutoff line and don't blind people like LED's do. I can see that bluish glow coming from another Dodge I know its a LED headlight. Man those thing suck bad. Now HID's you can tell the cutoff line might bounce a bit into your eyes but typically not as bad as a scattered LED on a stock housing.

Most of your high end vehicles are leaving the factory with LED's. My mom's 2017 Explorer came with factory installed LED headlights. HID technology is outdated and unreliable so LED will likely become the new standard as the years go by until that technology is outdated.

I have been watching and reading about the LED after market headlight bulbs for a few years now.  Up until very recently there had been no attempt to build an LED bulb to mimic the properties of a halogen filament bulb and that is why the light is scattered so badly - and it doesn't matter whether you have reflector housings or projector housings.

 

There have been some significant improvements with LED bulbs just within the past year and some manufacturers are paying attention to the optics and as a result there are some much improved LED bulbs on the market.  Some work better in projector housings and some are better with reflector housings.  The LED bulb may have a ways to go, but in my opinion they are improving rapidly. 

 

The 9007 LED bulb that I am using currently has not received a single flash from oncoming traffic while on low beam and there have been plenty of opportunities for it to happen.  If I would have been flashed even just  two or three times, I would have removed them and put the halogens back in.
