Need Complete Exhaust

What is your option on brands of 4" exhaust? I am running a MBRP 5" on my 01 its ok but a little to much for the newer truck. And tell you the truth I think I lost low end torque with the 5".Its been a while since I played with exhaust. I went thru 4 sets on my 01. Stock 3", 4" straight, 4" muffler, 5" straight with 5" stacks, to 5" muffler. I am sure there is some new stuff by now. :hyper:

Anything aluminized will probably work, so cheaper is good right!Do you know what you want for a muffler? Donaldson's are good, 40" is very high flow and great on sound (unless you have an exhaust brake) and the 51" is a little quieter. farmboysdiesel has a cheaper kit, as do many of the diesel websites.

The five inch on my welding tk is a 24" straight thru. All I really wont is a good rumble. 40 inch sounds like a lot of muffler:shrug: This is why I am asking, maybe my 24" is to loud. I dont get a chance to here my truck go by:lmao2:It just dawned on me I dont know where I got the five inch. THe 4" was the MBRP and I dont remember what muffler it had on it. CRS comes with hitting 51.

I've been running a MBRP cat back since about 13,000 miles on my truck. IIRC, I pulled the stock unit off in March of '05. I was experimenting then on the new truck because the mileage sucked!!!!:smart:If I had to do it over again, I'd still do a cat back system, but it'd be straight piped with no muffler. From what I've read, the 3rd gen kitty's don't add any back pressure, but if you delete the kitty and run a straight pipe, they're obnoxious loud. If you leave the kitty, and straight pipe a 3rd gen you get a nice rumble.

I ran kitty without muffler for a while and the sound was good, but the drone was horrible. I also don't think the kitties like the added smoke/soot from my Smarty so the kitty went for a vacation to the attic and the 40" went in. The sound was great, good tone, zero drone.. until you turned the exhaust brake on. The Donaldson did nothing for the high pitch EB noise, it actually hurt your ears if the windows were down. That's when I put the mega cab resonator in and now its a little quiet on the exhaust volume when empty, but perfect when towing and the exhaust brake is as quiet as it can be.

The prices at tvdiesel are far cheaper than anywhere I've seen yet. I was wanting to go with FTE kit and one of their 30" resonator/mufflers. But now I'm eyeballing that low priced diamond eye exhaust kit. Wonder what the drone is like. Still would be cheaper for me to go with diamond eye and an FTE muffler than doing the FTE kit + muffler.
