As the title says, I bought me a first gen Dodge Cummins. It's a 1991.5 D250, regular cab, with a getrag 5 speed. The odometer stopped at 154,000, but the PO said it has about 160,000 on it. Dad and I drove nearly 500 miles up to Arkansas to pick it up. The rust is just surface, it's not bad yet. Video link: http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t488/WillM1/My%20Truck/th_HDV_1212_zps5b9e2ac9.mp4 It has some electrical problems. The most important one was to get the turn signals, head lights, tail lights, and brake lights to work. I feared the worst, and thought it might be a bad grimlin. After an hour or so of checking …

Fist time ever I went into a Snap On tool van. I was very very impressed. He Had every tool imaginable for every situation. A real experience, it was like Christmas in there (no disrespect to our Lord), but it was beautiful seeing that. He even repaired an old Snap On torque wrench that was 20-30 years old. Took it all apart and replaced everything under warrantee while I waited. He went on to test its accuracy and is right on the money on his gauge. He even had a gear wrench with such small clicks to the ratching action that I could easily tighten the top injection pump mounting bolt in a small space between the intake plenum and the fuel supply line. It was…

I'm working on building a "5 MPH" bumper for the dually. The unit is made of 5"x5"x3/16" square steel tubing. The project will take me a couple of weeks to finish, but from the progress I've made so far, I'm really happy with the results. I had to stop at this point due to beer overload LMAO! I'm not finished with it by any means. Any input is appreciated .

Good Morning Guys, Tried the search function but couldn't find what i was looking for. I have a 93 W250 Cummins I am bringing back from the dead. The voltmeter is swinging from 12v to 18 v and i want to install an external voltage regulator to remedy this situation. Yes, i know the OEM regulator is contained within the PCM. I will be doing a PCM delete eventually and the truck will be fully mechanically controlled. So, back to the situation at hand. I have the older style square voltage regulator and not the one with the triangle looking plug. The one I want to use has screw connection points for eye lug or fork lug connections. The original OEM voltage regulator co…

Hey gang. I've got a 1992 Dodge here that I've just installed injectors into. DAPs (5 x 0.011) +30 HP 1st Gen injectors. Now knowing what I do of tunning I know this pump needs a bump in timing. @JAG1 gave me the wrench for doing the timing. Now I need to know which way advances the timing. I'm thinking it turn it down as you stand at the driver's fender. It taps out at a mere 75 MPH and that all it will do for speed the owner would like to see more out of this. I'm thinking the governor spring is shot and not pulling the fuel pin as much anymore. I know I could opt for the 366 governor spring but that is a PITA to install. I'm thinking of just t…

I broke the KSB Housing for the cold start timing advance device. I have been resealing the Bosch VE pump on my brothers 93 12V. When I installed the electrical solenoid KSB, the housing cracked open. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement? I have scoured the inter web and can not find them anywhere. I can’t even find them on any parts lists? The number on the housing is 1 465 132 585. I’m hoping one of y’all gurus can help me out here. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

I am resealing the VE Pump on my brothers 93 12 valve and when I pulled the delivery valves from the distributor head I found some pieces that I did not expect to see. Does anyone else have these little metal piece above the springs? Can anyone tell me what they are called and their purpose? Ive never seen these before and thought that the springs were supposed to be longer with a small washer/shim on top. I have scoured the inter web and can not find them in any pics, diagrams, or parts lists. I’m hoping one of y’all gurus can help me out here. I am also needing torque specs for reassembling the pump. Thanks

In trying to find why my old 1992 truck idles terrible after an injector and VE pump change (runs good otherwise), I've been checking for air leaks/ fuel leaks/ timing etc., I decided to replace the lift pump and delete the fuel heater since they looked like they were weeping fuel. I found when I took off the old lift pump the linkage that pulls down the diaphragm was no longer connected to the actuating arm that rides on the cam. This means I drove around for about a week with a new VE injection pump and no fuel pressure . This was odd since most mechanical pumps fail from a worn leaking diaphragm, not a cheaply pressed in linkage inside. In looking at the or…

I put in new injectors and the truck ran smooth but soon as I replaced the injection pump, within a week, I have a very rough idle. Like it's missing in one cylinder between 700 and 1000 rpm. Higher RPMs it smooths out beautifully and runs really good. There aren't any leaks so any suggestions what to check? Thank in advance BTW, This on my 1992 12 Valve with a VE pump.

Have almost 500 k on original injectors on my 92 first gen. It made a lot of white smoke and then quit on my driveway. This truck has quit on my driveway almost everytime it needing repairs. Starting to think it's a smart truck for the 20.5 years I've been daily driving her. Anyway I've got rebuilt injectors coming from Vulcan and need to know any other things to watch for while doing it. Mike told me about using a piece of pvc pipe sleeved on and using a lug nut w/ the right thread size lifts a stubborn injector out. Also if I find a broken tip I need to get a camera to look inside the cylinder for damage. Now... if there is a damaged cylin…

Seeing how I cant find hardly any answer on these things, other then there garbage. I need to know some things with it. I dont mind mine,( half the time when im not hauling) seems like it pulls great with a new clutch in it, I figured out it doesn't like to speed shift at all, which really sucks hauling a trailer around town on hills, Here is some of my downfalls with this one in my 92, when i bought it the guy said the sycro was going out in 3rd and 4th, when i test drove it... 3rd was bad had to float into it, but 4th wasn't, but the tranny feels really tight and strong, i dont think its getting worse, but it is definitely annoying! He included another getra…

So, after many months of hunting day in and day out. I have finally found what's seems to be a decent 12 valve. The guy has owned it since 19,000 miles. He knows everything that has ever been done to this pickup, I'm going to be picking it up tomrow, it's about a 6 hr drive from where I am. I have done tons of reading, more then my brain can handle probably, but I wan to make sure I know what I'm getting into. What should I be looking for? Any tips and tricks? Let me through in here that I just want it as my daily driver, and sometimes a towe pickup, I'm not looking to turn the pump up at all, I am just going to leave it stock. I want the mpg . It's a 92, I'm including a…

Source Automotive does good work and I trust those guys, but, for some reason they do not rebuild the 5 speeds themselves. They are saying $3400 bucks to R&R and have a rebuilder do the rebuild portion. This includes a new rear crank seal (been leaking for a long time) but no new clutch. They said that the price is on the high side to get everything covered till we get in there to see what is wrong. They also said I should not put this kind of money in such an old truck with over 400 K miles that thy wonder how the heck I got that much out of a stock trans anyway. Any advice or experience would greatly be appreciated

In new here and have a 1997 2500 diesel 12 valve and on the heater control there is 2 wire plugs 1 for fan and other for wait to start light etc.. So I UN connected the plug for the wait to start light an turned on the key and smoked a wire that is gray with a black stripe I traced the wire from the ignition connector to a bus connector from there it goes to the firewall connector and stopped there .....anyone know why this would happen ? It only does it if you disconnect the wait to start light connector on the heater control assembly ...
