Right after i got the truck it started acting up some times it would start other times it wouldnt. I ran some tests and the blue with a red tracer wire to the vp44 had power when trying to start the truck. It shouldnt so i cut it. All was fine and fixed. 2 weeks ago im driving and get dead pedal sometimes it would rev ok then it wouldnt. Put my code reader on it got 1 code p0122. So i replaced the APPS sensor. Ive tested the new APPS and its working perfect. Did not fix the truck. Did the key trick got 2 codes P0122…

I have a 2001 dodge quad 2500 4x4 auto with 34 in tires, question is I get lots of wheel spin with only 1 wheel pulling, but lock in 4 wheel drive the front end locks. Is the rear end open carrier when stock and what do yall recommend as a good locker for rear. Also thinking of going to a 410 gear from the stock 355 front and rear. Thanks for the help in advance

Im running a 63 68 12 /s475 setup and i currently have 7x09 injectors... I'm looking to see what you guys recommend for my setup as my 7 by 9s are too small now. The truck is a manual trans and primarily used to tow the camp trailer in the summertime at about 5000 through 9000 foot elevation.

  4. My truck is a 2001. I have an older AirDog, and an ISSPRO electric fuel gauge. The issue I'm having is that when I first bump the ignition I get about 15-16psi of fuel pressure. Then running, or even if you let the pump shut off and then rebump the ignition, the fuel pressure goes up to 26psi. I really need to get my test gauge on it, but two different sending units and gauges have been put on it, and both read the same. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what I should check? Is it the AirDog, that's marked as being regulated at 15 psi, did I screw up with how I installed the gauge? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, the AirDog was on before…

2001 Dodge 3500, 6 speed manual transmission.... hit with the dreaded "dead pedal" yesterday but after restarting the truck, it started working again which was great so I could get back home, to work today & the truck in the shop. Diagnostics on it can't find a computer code to determine the accurate diagnosis. So now what do I do, replace the APPS now or what and see if something else shows up? I often have a trailer hooked up with horses so really hate to get stranded out some where. It's the holiday week and I got a buddy that can put one in for me if I get one ordered today so whatcha' think? Help a gal out, won't ya?

Started my truck on site the other day to come home and within a minute there's a puddle of coolant on the floor, rad leaking on the drivers side crimped edge, luckily it stops as it gets warm so still able to use the truck, I've been looking for a radiator and ouch ! Several options Rock is $422 to my door for a standard rad with crimped tanks, guess it's chinese this is for a purchase price of just over $100 Mishimoto on ebag $1151 to my door, no crimped tanks and MIUSA, purchase price is $750 Other option is I do have a new old stock Northern Radiator ally rad with the inlet/outlet on the correct sides but no trans cooler, would need …

  7. Ok Long story short, is still very long: I had my NV4500 transmission go down a few weeks back, in Casper WY. took is to Thomas Crawford auto repair. I had a very good experience . But now I've got issues. History: Took about week to get one sent to the shop in Wy, from Midwest transmission in zumbrota MN which isn't far from where I live. The repair shop and I decided to upgrade to the 1 3/8th input shaft, plus all the other updates that Midwest Transmission and gear, does to these trans when rebuilding them. For the clutch, I opted for the SBDD and new hydrolics. Hoped this would work better with my towing needs. Finally , The installer p…

Does anyone have experience painting the valve cover while it is still on the truck? I took my truck to the car was today and degreased the engine compartment. It looks great except that the pressure blew all the paint of of the valve cover! I believe it is aluminum so there really shouldn't be any concern with rust correct? I would like to paint it red like I have seen a few. Any ideas?

In the past 2 weeks I had experience a sudden jump on the rpms on idle and or low speed (5 mph) I can see rpm meter jumping from 750 rmps to 1000 rpms and at same time I can hear motor increasing rpms or truck pulling when I have it on drive; in both cases I turn off engine and start again and symptom is gone. Any ideas..

anyone here with any experience with black diesel fuel? Like, which filtration methods or equipment you use, and any results (good and bad)?I usually have close to 200 gallons of waste engine oil per year, and have several older tractors to burn it in..my 903 cummins powered 4X4 would be a perfect candidate... Back in it's heyday, when it was in semi tractors, Cummins actually had a feature that would draw out about a gallon of crankcase oil and inject in into the fuel tanks this was done after X number of miles There was an onboard reservoir that would automatically replace that oil with new... The operator only needed to replace filters, a…

  12. Hello! I need some help. I had a bad oil leak on my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500. I've changed the pushrod cover gasket and put everything back as it was. After that, as I was little to lazy to start it proper way with bleeding injector lines ... I just used ether. Vehicle started and I thought, it was ok ... and it is while it's idling. Problem starts when press the gas. Huge white smoke is comming out of the pipe. Seams to me, like it smells like a diesel ... so all I can think of ... timing got screwed up. Anybody has any idea how to set the timing in VP44? I just put back everything as it was ... but there was no smoke before the procedure. Thanks

I will be installing new injectors soon and I’ve read conflicting info regarding whether crossover tubes should be replaced at the same time. Proponents (including @dieselautopower) of changing them out say the risk of fuel leaks is much less if they are changed out. Those who say changing them is not necessary advise that if they are correctly installed and aligned with the injector, and have a properly installed o-ring, leak potential is minimal. What is the prevailing opinion here regarding changing the feed tubes? If I change them out, is there any reason to go with anything other than these? https://www.dieselautopower.com/bo…

Hi, I was wondering whats the best way to bleed the power steering system I had to drain it after removing the pump to fix a leaky vacuum pump. I got the truck steering after reving the engine to about 1500 rpm's but the brake are very very soft and the abs and parking lights also came on during the process... Thanks

  15. My overhead read about 16.7 to 16.9, but actual mileage was only 14.2, on stock size tires. Most driving was short trips and basically no highway miles. I know that's not TERRIBLE numbers but I am hoping to get up there around 17-20 mpg if possible. I was using the overhead to adjust my driving style and it seemed the harder I accelerated (to a degree) the mileage went up, so I would try to drive it harder, I think this tank I will ease up and see what happens. But other than that, I need to fix a small fuel leak behind the motor. I think it's the stock return line but haven't pinpointed it yet. Some ideas of future upgrades are AFE Stage 2 intake, RV275's, maybe a larger…

  16. I know a couple of times I've had my batteries disconnected anywhere from 15-30+ minutes. I've never done an apps reset (didn't know about it). I'm asking because I'm still having issues with my truck (at times) dropping in and out of lock up.. like yesterday was horrible. Just releasing the slightest of tension on the accelerator would cause it at 55, 65 and higher. Today.. no issue whatsoever tho.. Ran around 80 miles.. stop and go and highway.. never dropped out once. Not sure why it has good days and bad? I'm getting a TPS low voltage code every time I check and clear. I'm going to try the reset procedure tomorrow based on cumminsdog suggestion. And.. I still need to…

Threw P1690 and P0336 last Sunday night before I went away for a few days (not in the truck). I just started combing the threads and Mike's articles, but haven't done any actual troubleshooting yet. Just wanted to open up a thread in case I need some pointers if I can't find in the other threads and articles. Basic symptoms at time of occurrence, though, were the tach started jumping around and then was running rough. I had seen my tach rough idling the few days preceding the codes. When the codes appeared, I was less than a mile from home, and turned around and got her home with no issues. Just got back today from a little time off and the truck did start, and the codes …

I would like to upgrade the performance of my truck and as far as what i have been told i will only be able to try for around 100 hp without a new trans or upgrading the stock trans. I am going to start by removing the resonator and muffler. Then upgrading the p-pump and restricting the turbo wastegate as well as changing the air box and filter. the final part to my puzzle will be a box ie. comp edge. please let me know if i am leaving anything out or if there is another order in which to proceed.
