Just wondering how many people have done Mikes crankcase vent. I knew about the vent problem and his inexpensive repair but put it off until my radiator looked like this;

So I cleaned my radiator, intercooler, engine...and added Mikes upgrade and haven't had a problem since. Also, my truck doesn't smell like oil after an oil change like it used to.

    before i did my mod, i was rock crawling in colorado and unknowingly dumped a gallon out the front vent because i was going downhill so steep, the oil light came on.   after the complete mod

    I done the same thing and dumped over a gallon trying to get out of the forest with a load of firewood on my truck. Then another time I dumped over half gallon panic stopping on a grade to avoid hitti

Went to Lowe's and picked up everything I needed. I spent less than $7 on everything. :thumb1:Thanks to Moparman for putting this together.

Do you guys think it will be california legal. I have been dying to try this, to prevent the oily mess.

There are ZERO emission components on the 2nd gen ISB trucks. Matter of fact, the engine vent we're all discussing here is internal crankcase vent which vents into the atmosphere!!!!! How many vehicles do you run across on a daily basis that vent their engine directly to the wide open spaces with no EGR? I'd probably be safe to say not many. So in regards to your question, yes, extending the "open loop" engine vent hose to a different location is perfectly CA diesel smog legal and any smog tech who tries to tell you otherwise shouldn't be a smog tech. :)

Just spent most of last night doing the entire cooling system. New cap. New thermostat . New upper/ lower hoses and new heater core hoses also pulled the radiator and cleaned it and the fan shroud I also added the vent mod. Now hopefully I won't have anymore coolant issues while towing.post-11910-138698189626_thumb.jpgAnd afterpost-11910-138698189655_thumb.jpgCould not see through the radiator before but now you can.

that cleaned up nice! I picked up the parts for my CVM, and plan to do the same with the radiator, as soon as the heat index drops below 110*F

yes hopefully i can go the rest of the summer without anymore cooling system issues.yeah i wouldnt want to be out working on the truck in that heat either

103*F and I cut the horizontal section of the pvc pipe short /@#$&

Puke bottle was about 1/2 full and 1/2" thick layer or more of crud.

So I have to make a jerry-rig temp setup until I get another piece of pipe.

I got most of mine done tonight but wonder how to keep the thing setting where is doesnt fall down? My boost tube comes out back by the fourth injector line and the vent mod wants to fall down on it.:think:

Second thought, what if we put the cover on that takes the place of the vent all together and run a small breather on the oil cap. Here is one, third from the bottom of page. http://hoeslidiesel.com/store/page2.html

on your 2nd thought.. wouldnt oil start to drip/run down the valve cover?

Got my radiator pulled and cleaned last night and my vent tubing done today. I am so glad to have that puke bottle gone. It made such a awful mess of the whole front of the engine. Best mod by far.

I test fit it all together before the cement and drove to tampa today. I checked it when I got on base and all was good but when I got home the oil had already made it slippry and it fell apart.:doh: I got it all cemented now and that stuff is strong.:thumbup2:

Still got my vent pipe in place... It seems to always put 1 drop of oil on the floor every time I park in the shop. But as for the oil loss there is none. It's always full of oil.

I just had a thought. If I have a boost bolt installed, I can't do this mod without running PVC all over the engine bay to go around the boost bolt. Now if I had Michael's setup to get a boost reading, it wouldn't be a problem. But I think I'll keep the boost bolt for now.Plus, I don't think this truck has a puke bottle anyway. . . :think:
