Still have my fuel system apart.  Fuel tank is on 2001 long bed and has chaff/rub marks where the metal straps makes contact.

Question...What is OEM?  Is there supposed to be anything in between the metal straps and plastic tank?

Thanks

  • Op here...All good ideas thanks.  I was thinking a bicycle intertube for a cushion between strap and tank.

You could go to the 2nd gen parts look up tool and see if it shows anything on the diagram

There shouldn't be anything in between in the strap/tank to my knowledge.

OK thanks...  Just seems odd to me metal on plastic.  Figure for tank is Figure 14-110 in parts book.  In the last year tank has been 3 times by various people, only once by me.    Maybe one of them didn't tighten up bolts good enough and tank was bouncing around some?  Or something not put back in.  I didn't want to re-install tank if something was missing.

Might be a good idea you have there. I like that thought of putting wide rubber strips in between.

I'd say more then likely they left the strap a little loose, or it wasn't properly aligned in the grooves in the tank.

Also, if the straps aren't already ground down on the edges, I'd highly recommend doing it for the side of the strap that goes into the same bolt the carrier bearing uses. It makes it so you don't have to completely take that apart to remove/install it.

I did mine like this

bicycle inner tube is a good idea.  I've used a dense foam insulation tape.  You can get it in different widths and has an adhesive on one side for easy installation.
