So, I got my first quote back for rebuild....erf...gut punch...Anyone have a recommendation in Minnesota for a rebuild?  The first one back from the local Cummins rebuild is $12k+....or is that about right?  Budgets need to know...

 

Sorry in advance if this has already been discussed and I could not find it in a search.

  • Pilot, whatever stand you buy...use the side of the engine to mount it (engine mount bolt boss'). Do not use the bell housing. Much more stable that way.

I saw that truck yesterday on my way out of Denver, sets at a shop right off  I 70. late 40’s  Ford it looks like,   

 

I wonder if it’s got a Cummins 

It's a late 40's early 50's Ford(:spank: my brain fart!)with I believe a little CAT and an Allison. It also has rear steer and can side walk taking up two lanes. I'm hoping to get a close look at it parked somewhere during a cruise weekend in Golden.

I found when we built the engine in my bride's dually that the gasket kit from Cummins was the most expensive part.  ($1,000-ish iirc)

the bearings and hard parts were super reasonable.

 

If you have mechanical ability, I would recommend building it yourself.  They are basic and stout.

And building an engine is fun and super rewarding when you are towing your load over a hill and passing cars like you are empty...….
