I know this is kind of silly, but Im looking for the rubber plug that goes into the rear bumper where the tow ball goes through (the Center of the 3 holes).  its a 1" hole that is pretty much straight down so a normal plug will not fit.  The part that goes down into the hole has to be kind of long to wedge into the hole.  I have probably spent entirely too much time  searching through amazon, McMaster, Grainger, etc. trying to find a Plug/Grommet/etc, to go into this hole.  Its just ugly w/o it.......  LOL.

Any suggestions on where I can find this?

thanks

Bob

Maybe that's why and I didn't want to get hosed by the dealer for a 3 crappy plugs.

sigh................. It just goes to show how much I suck @ the Interwebs.....................   LOL.

thank you @GSP7 that is what Im after.  $20 seems kind of steep for plugs, but, Im kinda stupid anyway so why not.  LOL.

FWIW, they are black rubber.  they have straight shanks on them because the hole is solid, so when you put the ball in there & tighten the nut you dont just crush the bumper.  so you cant use a plug that is flanged.  I will take a picture of it later, for those that even kind of care.

EDIT: I forgot to take a picture of it last night, but there is nothing special.  its a rubber plug that the cross section looks like a T.  the part that goes down into the bumper is about 3/4" long.  HTH's.

thanks again

Bob

fast enough, but does not have enough torque.  ;)

No it has a truck engine in it, Hemi's are for race cars.  LOL.

I dont remember exactly, but entirely too much.  they charge you by the GVW (as I would imagine most states do).  the thing is with Kalipornia, EVERY vehicle with a bed is considered a "commercial vehicle", regardless of how its used or owned.  its ANOTHER money grab by the assholes up in Sacramento..........  on the plus side I can legally part in commercial zones & there is nothing the meter maids can do about it...........  (Even though I have never done it, because Im sure I would get a ticket, & have to spend my time fighting it).

If you're handicapped California will let you register one commercial vehicle with a handicapped plate and the weight fee is waved.  The registration on my truck dropped over $200 a year when I did this.

  • Owner

Ugh... I'll stay in Idaho where registration is MUCH MUCH cheaper. Even Truck plates rated for 20,000# (IIRC) is still under $100.00

Just how expensive is it to register a truck in Naziphonia, I pay 50 bucks here in Iowa. 200 off is always a good deal but if that's just a discount how much is a real thing, is this what's to come all over US in near future.

  • Staff

In 2011 it was $316.  The next year with the handicap deduction the fee dropped to $104. This year $98.

The state passed a fuel and registration tax increase so this year I'll be paying an additional $25 plus.

Mine in NC was $160 with it registered for 10k. That includes property on it also and I do not how much that is this year. I will know when the wife gets my tag.

Bobalos, I cut out and rounded the corners on a small piece of diamond plate. Using bumper bolts I bolted down to cover those holes because I didn't like my foot sliding in the rain on that step.

As it would happen, I just paid for the tags on my truck (after paying $80 to get it "smogged", what a Phugging racket that crap is).

total price on a 20 year old 3/4 ton truck.............. $420.  Mind you $80 of that is the personalized tags (why I keep them I will never know........ they were a "gift" from a friend).

Registration  $108

Licence fee   $18

Weight Fee  $204

Custom tags  $83

County fee    $7

Owner responsibility fee (whatever the hale that is). $0.00

The tags on my 66 Chevelle.................... $20
