My truck will be driving just fine for a couple days, but sometimes I will start it up and try to take off and I will just die right there, or I’ll be in a drive thru and I’ll be sitting there and it will die with no warning. Today it happened 4 times by the time I could get all the way through the drive thru. Starts up just fine, but for some reason it dies when I have it in drive with my foot on the brake. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I did notice recently that I have a leak coming from my hydro booster.

Any help would be great

any codes stored in the ecm when you scan with a scan tool?   do you have a live data tool to see things like throttle input?

Torque converter issues? Is the transmission fluid dark or have glitter in it?

Error codes? It could be a failing tach sensor (cam or crank depending on year)

When I cycle the key it doesn’t show to have any codes. I don’t have a scan tool where I can check stored codes or any sensor data

I sure hope not, I rebuilt the trans and replaced the tc with a billet Suncoast tc like 3000 miles ago. I checked the fluid and it looked pretty good, smelled good. There were very small shiny flakes but that would probably be from the trans break in.

i also replaced the cam sensor and checked all the wiring about a month ago. I was having problems with a rough idle so I replaced the alternator because of the ac noise and it seemed to have fixed everything until now

What year is your truck? Key trick only works on the 02's for both computers and only one on 01's for tne part.

2001, but when I do the key trick it displays ECM ——— and

PCM ——— so it looks like It works with both computers

I would not hurt to put a scanner on it. The key trick can miss things sometimes.

Will try to get ahold of one soon

Also i was wondering if the vacuum pump could be causing such a load on the engine that it shuts it off? I did have some collapsed vacuum lines that i had replaced last week, maybe the vacuum pump sucked in something its not supposed to?

Might have went bad again better check it with good meter, or just unplug it and see if it still does the same thing. Maybe old alternator did some damage to electronics somewhere.

I wouldn't think a vacuum pump would cause any issues aside from leaking oil or creating more blow by. Even if your vacuum lines are good and not collapsed it's pulling constant vacuum against dead head if you will. Plus it would have snapped the coupling or something, the engine is way stronger than that vacuum pump.

I would bet that its a fuel system problem because whenever I see these kind of symptoms it's usually a clogged screen in the tank or fuel filters in poor shape. It could also be a clogged tank vent, but thats easily diagnosed by running with the fuel cap loose to see if things change.

Welcome to the forum BTW.....

Are there any fuel system mods done to your truck yet?

I doubt it’s fuel related, the only thing I haven’t replaced is the injection pump. Already installed a fuel sump, fass 150 w/ new filters, and new injectors probably 1000 miles ago. I’ll loosen my fuel cap and see if that makes a difference. I’m leaning towards maybe a damaged ECM/PCM because before I replaced the alternator the idle was really rough

How many miles on the VP?

It has a reman VP with like 5 years on it

Fuel lines half inch all the way?

I would like to also know what the level of AC noise is generated by your new alternator.

What if dirt is trapped at the bottom of the sump? Another possible advantage to having a draw straw system. You could unhook a fuel line and blow any potential fuel line restriction back toward the tank. Don't do this thru any fuel filters though, 5 p.s.i. probably enough.

Mine was similar intermittent cut out.  The Fuel System Relay was greasy internally and intermittently dropping out.

Good Luck
