On the 24v that I am building it has a KDP and I was planning on making a little tab to keep that pin in its place, but I was wondering if you had to cut some of the case out to to put the tab in and screw the bolt back in flush or if there was a way to do it without cutting any of the case out.

 

Flywheel question: the flywheel that came off said motor has hot spots on it it appears, being darker blotches here and there. So should I just put that one on there or should I put my old one on that's a little bumpy on the surface where the clutch is applied? Its not terrible by any means but its there. I've heard to not reuse a flywheel that has hotspots but I didn't know if one that was a little bumpy was alright to use.

    Like @dripley shows that is an updated case no tabbing needed... Just like my case is the same thing no tab needed.

Looks like a stepped case to me, that pin is slightly larger then that hole, not sure why they even left a hole there. 

Ps, check all the other bolts you can see, you could even pull them out one at the time clean and three lock them.

I'm wondering the same thing.... And also why Cummins is making electric trucks now :doh: Who knows why they do most of the weird things they do

Blind holes are a pain to drill.  (no where for the chips to go. harder to measure that the depth was properly met.  diameter measurements are harder)  ALSO Alignment pins into blind holes cause problems.  The trapped air can prevent the pin from fully seating (and if the press is too loose, the pin can compress the air, then fire itself across the shop...)  also debris can be in the bottom of the hole and not easily seen, so the part that is supposed to be aligned may not make down to the surface properly.  I will always try to have at least a small through hole for a pin and larger for tapped holes for chip/debris clearance.

Makes me want to pull my cover again and check my bolts. Might explain the weep oil leak behind the case.

Thats why I checked mine, did a water pump and noticed a weep on the flat part of the case underneath the water pump, turns out bolts around that L shaped peice of case was loose

The only way I'll give up if I have money for the 4th gen, otherwise I'll keep fighting the fight
