Help: in-line fuel filter??

I would like to add the fuel filter as try keep debris away from raptor pump(raptor 100) but I has research and not see what is correct way for me to get a part kit to do on my 2002 dodge ram 3500 cummins as 2wd dually. Also I had noticed the my raptor 100 would not increase te pressure even I did changed the fuel filter at stock canister that did increased from 15psi to 21 but now it went back to 14psi after few weeks driving. I had not get chance to pop the line off at raptor 100 to see at screen to see if plugging up? I had put my cummins into my garage and stay inside for few weeks as had not get time to look at it. Also do I should just upgrade for two filters with pump like air dog or fass?? I am plan to towing two Harley up to Wisconsin in October then December which over thousands miles to drive... I would like to see what is good way to do.

For what you want to do, they make a cheap inline filter for 454 powered motorhomes in 1/2". Usually stocked at most NAPAs. It's about $10.00 & very little restriction.Ed

Do you have a large amount of debris in your fuel? This amount of pressure drop across the filter seems excessive for that short time. I know when my truck stopped fuelling correctly I found it was actually the lift pump in the tank that was losing power.

No I don't see any large debris but I knew that I did not clean up the raptor pump on frame as screen. That is why I want to clean and put secondary fuel filter so I don't hurt the raptor pump. I don't have fuel pump in the fuel tank. I removed the lift pump at engine so I had installed a raptor 100 system on frame with 1/2 inch hose kit.

The NAPA filter will just clamp on the 1/2" line. You can blow through it easily, so I think iw will be a minimal restriction.Ed

You might need to find out if the filter is designed to operate on the suction side. Also, remove the intank screens if you get a prefilter. This will help to some degree for better flow. Intank screens have been known to eventually varnish up or clog.Best job is 1/2'' ball shut off valves on either side of the pump and filter. That way you don't loose prime nor drain diesel all over you when changing pump on the road or filter at your shop.I like the 1/2'' inch lines all the way with my big draw straw.

I also run one before my fass hpfp. I am only using 3/8 lines but I know you can get a 1/2 inline filter rated for diesel also. Let me see if I can find a part number for you.

While a strainer, in-line filter, will keep some debris out of the pump I would spend a little extra cash and put a f/w sep inline prior to the pump. A Baldwin FB1311 filter base with a BF1212 filter will do what you want, and more.

    I bought my in line can strainer and 3/8 banjo fittings from Vulcan. Now, the pressure problem. My Raptor 100 pressure keeps changing. I have learned to live with it. I have a liquid filled industrial gauge 0-30. Set at 18 first. Few months later it dropped to 15. I tweaked the adjust screw back up to 18. The next month it hopped up to 21 at idle 17 f/t. After a few weeks I was ready to adjust it lower again. Started it up to adjust and it was at 18 again. Now still at 18 and 14 at full throttle after 2 months of 18,000 # towing.

    I don't trust/like NAPA, aka WIX, fuel filters.

    May I ask what you know about NAPA / Wix filters and why you not fond of them? I was half tempted to switch over to them.

    I am little concern about protective since my truck are 2wd and don't have a a metal sheet like 4wd dodge has. I will see how much for that parts you provided on this post so I can see where can I buy from. I just want get it done and get ready for thousands miles drive as two vacations with harleys in trailer.

    I am getting ready to install a pre-pump filter on my 2000 Cummins. A little pricier ($170) than the inline filter, but this is what I am installing: http://www.vulcanperformance.com/VP-MAX-Dual-Remote-Filter-Kit-p/drff.htm It has a fuel filter and water separator and has an option for 1/2" and 3/8" fittings. Thought I'd throw another option out there for you.

    Are you sure your lift pump will pull through that system? I'm pretty sure those are designed for a pusher system, especially since they're in the 6.7 Category.

    I have only used NAPA filters on thousands of boats for over 25 years. From outboards to 8-92 Detroits. Not one single failure. Probably 200 Detroit services, 500-600 Perkins, 80+ Volvo diesels, 300+ outboards, 500+I/O & straight drive gas engines.The only thing that I don't use from NAPA is the Racor Fuel/water primary filters. Everything else is NAPA. Oil, Fuel, transmission, some large steering setups, air filters (when equipped).Not 1 single failure. Also, when checking records, I have seen some filters on for a year that are just plain rusty. I do not see that with NAPA.Also, when you go to NAPA, they actually know how to look things up iin a book. Try finding a secondary fuel filter for a Westerbeke genset.... In stock at NAPA for $3.10 (last time I got one) & $14+ from Westerbeke.OK, rant over...Ed

    I left out a few other upgrades I am making as well. A DTT mechanical pump will be replacing the stock fuel pump and should have plenty of power to pull from the tank and a pre-pump filter/ws. I did quite a bit of research on the Vulcan setup and didn't remember seeing any issues with fuel restriction on a push or a pull system. Anyone install a pre-pump filter/ws setup and have issues on our 2nd Gen trucks? It is all going in this weekend so I hope not :)

A 4um absolute filter becomes a 4um nominal filter for Wix, and they don't care (been told that on the phone by MULTIPLE Wix reps). They also refuse to publish/discuss their fuel/water separation rates, which raises a BIG flag. Lots of people use them, but their specs should speak volumes... they don't cut it, there is a reason they are cheaper... Their non-fuel filters seem to have better specs, and in some cases actually exceed the cross. Run what you want, but the numbers don't lie. Running a Wix in my truck would VOID my fuel system warranty (if/when I had one) as the Wix doesn't meet the minimum OEM spec. Wix is aware they don't meet the spec, and has no plans to meet it.

    Could you explain the differences as well? I understand its a specification but clarify the difference between them both.
