  1. The local hardware stores that carry fasteners in bins have an amazing amount of automotive fasteners. Ace hardware in my town is my go to place. If they don't have it then it's the internet for me.
  2. Nice! Makes me want to move! Off the grid and simple one story cabin.
  3. As I recall when I met you a few months ago, your truck took quite a while to start. So might be related to that symptom. Just thought I'd say hello and sorry you're having troubles.
  4. What does it take to make a 47RE reliable?
  5. I am very happy with my recent 275 injector & H ex turbo upgrade. With that many miles on your truck, I think that new injectors are in order. Might as well upgrade to +40 hp. The HX turbo does spool quite a bit better than the H why that originally came in my truck.
  6. Wix makes a Cummins additive. Available at most auto parts stores. What I am not sure of is its necessity. But I've been using it without having any cooling system problems.
  7. You guys use any of the anti galvanic corrosion mixes like Wix?
  8. Can you do the head studs without removing the head? Like pull one stud at a time and replace? Then re-torque the entire head with the normal sequence?
  9. Can you do the head studs without removing the head? Like pull one stud at a time and replace? Then re-torque the entire head with the normal sequence?
  10. Yeah, I know you've offered to give me the material list, but would be cool if everyone had the info.
  11. Yeah, like U-Haul putting stickers on their trailers saying 45 mph max speed and check lug nuts every 100 miles.
  12. What's that off of, a yugo? I do double that without weight distributing.
  13. What things can be covered with the scan guage? Pretty cheap when you consider the price of gauges and then routing wires to the cab for each gauge is a process.
  14. Also depends on the stinger. Some rated higher than others. Should be in the owners manual. Load distributing can go higher.
  15. There are different class ratings. Not sure what ours are. But I can tell you I've had 12,000# on mine.
  16. Do I need an air intake temp gauge to monitor?
  17. Yep. I put on a snubber and needle valve. Works great now!
  18. Yeah, I figure anything that comes from harbor freight is use one time and discard. Good stuff has potential for lifetime service.
  19. Ran new air line to fuel gauge and ditched the isolator. In addition to above testimony to the test gauge, the hose was long enough to set it under the truck and adjust the fuel pressure right where I wanted it. First time that my Isspro matches the test gauge. Awesome! 21psi idle. Be interesting to see how much I drops now at WOT. In addition, bled the fuel system after opening it up to air. Stuck the end of the hose in an empty 2 cycle oil bottle, bled it off and emptied the contents back into the tank without spilling a drop.
  20. What's the most miles anyone has gotten from their 47re? Aside from replacing a torque converter, I'm at 183,000 and counting. I don't think replacing the T/C and/or valve body counts as transmission rebuild.
  21. I was in a panic when my fuel pressure went down to 5psi. Went to O'Riely's and spent $53 on a cheap Chinese pressure gauge with all kinds of adapters for most likely any vehicle. Second time I used it the piece in the middle that presses the schrader valve fell out and would no longer test. I took it back and got my money returned. Ordered one from Vulcan Performance. Was here the next day and cost $54. Nice liquid filled gauge that only goes to 30psi and has a 6' hose. You could route it into the cab if wanted. It's got a turn valve that depresses or not the schrader insert. Unscrew the gauge from the hose and you've fgot a great bleeder system and can bleed into a container to return to the fuel tank. Plus no fuel spillage inside the engine compartment. My point is that I now have a gauge made for my truck that is made well for no more money than the cheap Chinese model I bought earlier.
  22. Nice! Would I pick up and fuel economy by going with a 4" exhaust and Diamond Eye muffler?
  23. Jag has a write up on making an access door through the bed. That's on my mod list. Once done there is no more lifting bed or dropping the tank.
  24. The new HX turbo and 275 injectors look like they have improved my mileage by 2-3 mpg on my work run for the week. That will save me about $700 a year in fuel. Plus the added performance for towing. So it's not all about going fast. Next I'd like to do a Smarty.
