  1. We used to do some crazy stuff. Can you imagine anyone letting a kid on a roof these days to clean gutters? We did. Washed cars, mowed lawns.
  2. Sounds like cutting the hole in the bed is the easy part. But so easy now to pull the tank unit. Can we see your cover plate? Did you weld anything? Or all bolted?
  3. Looks simple enough. Lol. I'd sure like to make that mod.
  4. Excellent, those cheap / simple fixes are the best!!!
  5. When I had a motorhome Id drive it weekly to the grocery store. I use my 4 wheel drive every change I get on my truck. My philosophy is to use my equipment frequently even if you don't go very far. You gotta start making a point to drive your truck more often. Will solve a lot of problems down the road.
  6. Can you use a turkey baster to empty it? I don't like pumping the brake pedal to the floor. Can cause you problems when your travel is longer than normal. If you want to replace your fluid, just suck out what you can and then keep adding new fluid. Or spend $50 on a motive brake bleeder that runs under pressure and run it out the caliper hoses till clear. No pumping of brake pedal. This is my preferred method.
  7. Would that light be bright enough to use as a backup light? My canopy is about 2' over cab height. Backing a trailer can be difficult in the dark. My thought was to cast a light from the drivers side top of the canopy and shine it back to be able to see the rear of my dumping trailer, which is dark blue and not visible in my outside mirrors.
  8. Think it would fit under the second gen hood? In the battle over halogen vs LED, this one wins. Those lights are crazy cheap. Great mod. Fits my criteria. Inexpensive and effective. More work than cost. Great job! With the insulator taken off my hood, that light should just blast down onto the engine. White paint on my truck ;-)
  9. Yep, I've had a couple of trailer couplers accumulate moisture. Upon inspection green corrosion bridging between wires or screws. I'd tear into the coupler before tracing any other wires. Take it off the mount and pull it apart and look for green crud. If you find some, I'd just replace it. They are like $10.
  10. I got cheap rotors. Only $35 each and that's even with the parking brake shoe surface. Can't believe how cheap. Local auto parts store.
  11. Warped rotor? I had a rear rotor that pulsed especially going downhill and braking hard at hiway speed.
  12. But what you're ignoring is how good us untapped beta testers would be. Lol.
  13. Soot being so fine may actually act as a lubricant like graphite does?
  14. I hear what you're saying, because soot is so fine that it doesn't get filtered out even with smaller micron filters. But if it's black after 50 miles, that tells me there is crud in the motor that's not getting filtered out I don't have any blow by. All of my gasser's had a fairly linear clean to dirty personality. Although I admit that the darkness is not really opaque like dirty oil is. But I figure if I'm making progress towards cleaner that's a good thing.
  15. But they only compared the LE (low emission) and that's the one for 2007 and later diesel vehicleS. I often find myself straying off topic a bit. But seems like it fits in. When you do an oil change or even at regular startup the oil pressure seems to lag for a few seconds. Does the residual oil adequately lubricate engine parts during this "dry" period? It is especially long after an oil change. Maybe one advantage of increasing I intervals between oil changes through the use of a bypass oil filter system. Plus I've been changing paper at 1000 miles in attempt to remove built up sludge and deposits in the engine from 170,000 miles of spin on oil filter alone. In this procedure and adding 1 quart of fresh oil every 1,000 miles I'm doing the equivalent of a full oil change every 12,000 miles. But with the added advantage of better filtration of smaller particles. Kinda wonder if there is ever a need for full oil change in this procedure? Maybe change the spin on one time a year to make sure it doesn't break down and start sending filter medium through the engine. My dipstick used to show much dirtier oil than it currently does. In the last it would look pretty black almost immediately after changing oil. Maybe someday I can reduce frequency of bypass paper change.
  16. I guess I've been using the wrong stuff. Other brands have the same issue as delo?
  17. Any decent diesel oil available at Walmart? They are everywhere. Delo here fluctuates between $11 and $18 per gallon at the parts stores depending on sales. Any real savings buying in larger containers? I notice mike has a nice big collection of larger vessels.
  18. But do you have any personal feelings on the issue. Lol.
  19. On my wife's 2006 the interior lights went whacko. We had to disconnect the battery cable to get it to default back to the way it is supposed to be. Leave it disconnected for a couple minutes. Not sure if that'll fix ya or not?
  20. I'll use what I need to and out the rest into my cummins tote in the shop. The whole assembly was $13.
  21. I got a fleetgaurd replacement valve for my stock engine mounted fuel filter. Are the two little O rings par to the installation or additional replacement rings for the sealing plunger? Figured someone here already has done this. Only like $13 from Geno's. I've been waiting for changing the filter to replace the drain valve which leaked last time I did a filter change. Had to flip it open and closed a few times before it sealed. Maybe just dirty. Plus after new lift pump install I increased pressure from about 8psi to 20. Might have brought on deferred maintenance of the drain valve. Sounds like I better clean the input screen to my Raptor too. Dreading another seemingly inevitable fuel pump failure. :-( Any opinions on frequency of tear down and cleaning of the gear inside the gearator? I have no auxiliary filter behind the pump.
  22. So starting a newly acquired truck with injector testing my be advisable. Then any noticeable change in performance would indicate possible trouble. I'm just going to replace mine with 50-75+ injectors and be done with it for a while. Are new injectors pop tested for matching purposes?
  23. Short of pop testing is there a way to evaluate injector performance?
  24. There are video demonstrations on YouTube about blowby on cummins motors. In extream cases, blow by will shoot the cap into the air. Less dromatic cases it will just flutter a bit. Best case is no action at all.
  25. You should at least get some severence pay. Lol.
