NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing part number
One piece...and its straight and balanced. I've installed it both ways. Didnt seem to matter... Good thinking...but everything is tight. Just for sake of knowing, this truck only has 125k on it.

NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing part number
Haggar, thank you for the detailed response... Yes the vent is clear and has always been as I've checked it before thinking it could be the culprit. The runout as you described it makes perfect sense, and would be sad if thats how intolerant NP was with their design specs. Let me throw this in the mix of my problem though... Instead of doing anything right away, I washed the underside of the truck and took it for a 20 mile drive yesterday. Strangely the seal is NOT leaking. This tells me that: 1) I didnt drive far enough, but I cant imagine since it was leaking enough to leave spray droplets all over under the truck while towing. Or 2) the fluid level is too low to push fluid up against the seal (cant imagine since its almost perfectly full). Or 3) there's something going on associated with towing and either the weight of the trailer changing the driveline position or the amount of load the driveline is placed under while towing that heavy. Also noting that the driveline runs very smooth and has been balanced. I've checked the driveshaft wear patterns and it doesnt seem that the rougher portion of the shaft is making it that far into the boot. Also, to help reduce rough corrosion from collecting, I grease the back portion of the slip yoke. Not sure how much it helps though.

Video showing engine fan engaging late
Watch this video and tell me what you think. Take note, there was about 14k behind me pulling a long grade. WOT and the engine temp starting to climb. There is no engine fan roar but as soon as I let up on the throttle you can hear the engine fan come to life and everything cooled right down. It was about 90*F outside too... I'm wondering if the fan clutch is getting worn out or is there something else going on I'm overlooking.

If it didnt entail a lot of effort and money, I'd love to convert the TC tailshaft to a fixed yoke with a slip joint driveshaft. I've never been a fan of these slip yoke tailshafts.

NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing part number
Here's a short video I took of the tailshaft bushing movement. I'm not claiming to be right but I've handled more than a few tailshafts checking for excess play and this one seems to be in great shape. You can see that the slight amount of movement doesnt even cause the boot to move. Tell me what you think...

NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing part number
As much as I dont want to have to change the bushing, I'm also questioning if this will even fix the problem. Here me out... As I stated before, I changed the seal and it was leak free. This has generally been the case except when I used a cheaper seal which I know was too loose of an ID surface. That one leaked right away. Any leaking always takes place during towing conditions and continues to do so until I replace the seal. I've checked the clearance of the slip yoke movement and its very minimal. I'll upload a video when I get to a better internet connection so you can see what I mean. Knowing that a short bed truck will have more driveshaft movement due to the angle of the shaft, I'm wondering if the yoke is being shoved too far into the seal while towing and damaging it when there's weight on the truck.

NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing part number
No, not the output shaft seal. I'm looking for the brass (or ? material) sleeve bushing located inside the rear portion of the tailshaft housing extension. It should have rifling groves and be about 2" long and what the slip yoke rides on. I've seen diagrams which identify it for the 231 but strangely there's no recognized part on a diagram for the 241. And yes, I looked through the R&R article but unless I overlooked it, there was nothing about that bushing. With the rear seal obviously not wanting to seal over time, replacing this bushing is my last option fixing this problem.

NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing part number
Does anyone know the part number for the NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing? I've been to the parts stores and the dealer but neither could help. I've seen a few versions online but I'm hoping to have the correct part delivered the first time. The reason I'm doing this is because I've replaced the seal three times. The last time I researched and researched and determined the correct one since all have slightly different shaft size ID which is weird but nonetheless... So after installing the seal I thought was best the leak was gone for a long time. Then...as usual, I took the 5th wheel out for a camping trip and once again the tailshaft started puking like a stuck pig, spewing fluid spray all over the underside of the truck. I measured the slip yoke play and its very minimal, but must be enough to allow deflection of the seal under power with 14k behind me. Thanks guys...

Help me understand this Taraf Business with China and others....
I certainly hope not because its no fun breaking tools since it usually results in getting hurt somehow... Mikes a good guy. I cant express enough how much I find it offensive that American companies can have some factory in China make their product and ship it back to America...and its still cheaper than making it here. Whats wrong with our legislators who think this is good for you and me and our kids.

You guys are both right...and both examples are a DIRECT result of America dealing with the backlash of unfair trade. Imagine if growing crops in American farmers didnt have to compete with the cheap crops pouring in from other countries. Imagine what tools would cost in America if American tooling companies didnt have to compete with low quality / low price garbage from other countries. Yes, there are American companies/businesses who are charging too much for their stuff...but thats capitalism and they wont survive for long unless they change their ways. And there are also American companies who are simply trying to stay ahead of inflation which has been severely compromised by the unfair trade America has been allowing for decades. Point being is if Americans want to be "global" then they also have to understand that EVERYTHING global affects EVERYONE globally. Meaning, what happens in China, Iran, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Canada, etc, etc...affects us in America and the exact opposite. Meaning what happens in America should also affect those countries too. But thats not how the politicians beat their political propagated drums. Rather there's this completely misguided and misunderstood idea spread by politicians and media that America has an endless bank account and we should be paying for the rest of the worlds issues. And were does the American money come from??? It comes from "manufacturing and trade"...

I just find it ironically hypocritical how people view such topics... They complain that everything is low quality hecho en China but they dont want to pay a few more bucks for something made in America. They complain that there's no good jobs in America but they're afraid to pay a few more bucks for something made in America. When it comes right down to it, they dont want to give up anything for sake that it might disrupt their complacent little lives. Except that they've completely overlooked how much quality of life they've given up in such a short amount of time because they keep accepting less. Sad...

Americans clearly suffer from short term memory loss...and why we're in the tariff position we're in now. In short, America became globalized back in the early 90's (thanks to Clinton) and China started to grow at an unprecedented rate due to the overwhelmingly unfair advantages they were getting. The same goes for most all other foreign countries who trade with the US too as we pay more money for their stuff to come here than they pay for our stuff to go there. That is....."IF".....they even allow American products to be imported or used at all. Its complete BS on many levels and has caused American businesses to take their manufacturing out of the country...only to bring it back in from foreign soil cheaper than if it was done here. Again...its BS and over the past 30 years we've lost an immense amount of integrity, control, jobs, and infrastructure because of it!!!!! Anyone who doesnt understand the dynamics of whats going on and how America was ONLY a great country because of our manufacturing and trade power...and how we're dangerously allowing the rest of the world to step all over us as they grow bigger and better on the backs of the money you and I make, needs to wake up. Its CRAZY..... And to think people are against the added tariffs on Mexico because we wont have avocados in December. PATHETIC and embarrassing. If Americans dont start making America what it was soon then you'll have way more to worry about in 20 years than avocados.

Finally put my dana 80 cover on
I believe this is what you're looking for. But just to be sure, I'd call Genos. https://www.genosgarage.com/product/gm-dg-01face-9902/gauge-mounts2

Finally put my dana 80 cover on
I have a temperature gauge mounted in my dash for monitoring both my manual transmission and rear differential. I ran a thermocouple on my stock Dana 80 cover and then a year or so later on my Mag-Hytec differential cover. I towed heavy during the winter and triple digit summer heat, and my findings were more than enough to let me know that I made the right choice by putting a Mag-Hytec differential cover on my truck. Gale Banks and his BS marketing video's can shove it...

Log splitter
I remember years ago when the dual rams were unheard of but now I've seen many other manufactures use them. Some people say they're great and some people dislike them... I dont see why they'd be a problem unless one ram failed.

Log splitter
I'm currently looking at a Patriot 7x14 dual ram 14k or a Big Tex 7x14 scissor lift ram 14k. They have their differences but its amazing how many differences are out there in the dump trailer world... Trying to figure all that out before I make a purchase too.

I'm in the market for a dump trailer... Any suggestions? What to look for and what out look out for?

NV4500 temps with coolers
I found both the Fastcooler transmission coolers and the MagHytec differential cover I installed on my truck to be effective and did what I was looking for...

NV4500 temps with coolers
Strangely random post for a transmission cooler thread. But...if you take the time to watch all of Gales differential cover videos you'll notice that he actually reveals nothing and merely trolls the mindless followers. No facts, no data, no information other than speculation, conjecture, and a whole lotta hype to better prepare you for the new Banks differential cover soon to be introduced. And in doing all that, he also took stabs at other popular differential cover companies who already dominate just to better open up the playing fields for the market he wants to jump in on. Pretty pathetic in my opinion... Nonetheless, this thread is about the NV4500 transmission coolers.

NV4500 temps with coolers
If by "thermal blanket" you mean an exhaust blanket to cover the exhaust pipe next to the transmission...then you wont see any differences until you're pulling something heavy. The exhaust pipe isnt that hot during normal around town and light freeway driving. But pull a long grade with a heavy trailer behind you and your 900* - 1200* exhaust pipe will definitely affect the neighboring transmission temperature. At least thats what I found to be true...

NV4500 temps with coolers
I just want to point out that I have a temperature probe mounted in the drivers side Fastcooler for a dash mounted temperature gauge. I have confirmed the gauges accuracy with a laser temp tool at the Fastcoolers and the transmission housing and found that if the gauge reads a specific temperature then the entire transmission will test very close to the same temperature with the laser tool. The only times I will see differing temperatures is if I try to take a reading off of materials which are of a glossy/shined/polished surface, whereby the readings will be off. I'm not sure if the thermal camera is affected by those variables as well...

Glad to offer any help... What are you looking for? In regards to the thermal image, what did you use to see that?
