The Future of Trucks
Two great era's to be stuck in... Personally I think the 80's were some of the best times in American History.

Agreed... TV got boring and years ago. Its mostly just propaganda and indoctrination anymore. I cant even catch a good movie these past ten years that doesnt have a political/racial agenda...

Flushing power steering fluid tomorrow
I've been using Redline PS fluid for years. Never went though the formal "flushing" process, merely changed the fluid in the reservoir many times. I think the stuff is pretty good...

The Future of Trucks
People go to the drag strip to hear the roar of the motors and the smell of fuel... Not to hear the whizzing sounds of electric motors. Thats not picking on electric motors either but just making a point that just because electric motors are fast doesnt mean they give me the same kinda chub. Its like all the hype about robotic racing vehicles. WHY...? Whats the point...? Racing is about the human element.....not just winning.

Filling oil filter when changing oil?
Sludge is a byproduct of oxidation and contamination. All oil can sludge merely because all oil can oxidize and become contaminated. The rate of sludge build up largely depends largely on quality of oil, driving condition, and change intervals in relation to the oil type and quality. Thats not overlooking the fact that a properly running engine will create less sludge too. Simply put, change the oil more often and there will be less sludge. Its really that simple...but most people are looking to simplify their life and fall for marketing gimmicks.

I like the looks of that deck... What brand and size? It may be an illusion but it looks bigger than a 1 din but smaller than a 1.5.

Filling oil filter when changing oil?
That would be nice to have. Just curious too but does the switch also override the intake air heater relay circuit so that it doesnt throw a code? Cylinder heat is generated by the higher working compression in a diesel engine. So if the piston isnt moving fast enough during the compression stroke then the combustion chamber heat wont be adequate enough to ignite the injected fuel. When your intake temperatures are too cold and the combustion chambers are not warm (cold engine) then the piston can have a hard time building enough heat for optimal combustion. Combine this with weak batteries or dragging starter and you have a crank that simple cant move the pistons fast enough to build the right amount of heat to start the engine. Gasoline engines dont have this problem because spark plugs ensure combustion. But high compression gasoline engine can more easily pre-detonate because of the heat.

Actually it does... When the block heater is on, depending on how long in relation to the level of cold, the engine block will reach a max temperature of about 100* F. That means everything in contact with it will be much much warmer than just sitting in the cold. If you use your block heater then oil pressure is almost immediate even in the sub level cold.

Powder Coating Wheels
No, thats not bad at all... Especially when you see people spend over a couple grand for wheels.

Powder Coating Wheels
I never powder coated the wheels on these trucks but I did about 20 years ago on an older 4wd I have. I took the American Racing Outlaws and had a shop bead blast the clear coat off and then powder coat them white. They looked amazing... Back then it only cost me a couple hundred bucks too. I have no idea if I could get someone to do all that today for that kinda money.

16+ more years
As long as you take care of a vehicle by changing the fluids and lubricants on a regular basis and fix worn parts before they damage something else.....they'll basically last forever. The variable out of your control though is when needed parts and lubricants are no longer available. Thats when you either fabricate, wing it, or conform... Usually I decide to get rid of a vehicle when the cost of repairing it is overruling the financial benefit of owning it. Meaning, I'm not spending thousands of dollars a year just to keep an old vehicle running if I can drive a new one for about the same.

Filling oil filter when changing oil?
My opinion is there is a place for both conventional and synthetic... One can be better than the other depending on the application and environment. The problem I have with how people discuss synthetic oils is usually that they have no clue what they're talking about and all their conclusions are based on nothing more than rumors and tricky advertising they read or heard somewhere. That said, most synthetics are nothing more than the premium base from petroleum crude taken during the refining process. Meaning yes, most synthetics are from the same crude petroleum bases that conventional oils are made from too. Kinda like extra virgin olive oil... The real difference in synthetic is the proprietary recipe of additives depending on the type of lubrication, and synthetic has a more symmetrical molecular structure than conventional oil. This is what allows for better pour properties in the cold too. But the problem with ALL oil is oxidation from heat. When the oil gets approximately above 180* F or so, oxidation allows an oxygen molecule to take a smaller oil molecule away, leaving the larger oil molecules behind, eventually making the oil thicker and thicker. So because the molecules in synthetic are similar in size, the oxygen molecules have a harder time carrying any off. Thus the oil remains more stable over time. This is why synthetics can go longer between change intervals and why synthetics are able to withstand a bit more heat. I run conventional oil in my trucks engine, and will always run conventional. But that said, I have synthetic in the rear differential, conventional in the front differential, and synthetic in the transmission, transfer case and power steering.
