  1. Injectors are a very straight forward to do yourself if you are handy. The only specialty tool I remember is the torque wrench for the injector hold downs ( 89 in pounds ) and the torque wrench for the rocker arms ( 27 ft pounds ). I had never done them before and it took me a 3 hours going slow and taking my time. Also a good time to adjust valves!
  2. If it has the stock lift pump or dodge's fix, you can almost bet your vp is getting worn out due to lack of fuel
  3. I disagree with a aspects of your arguement.... To begin, smarty is extremely safe and reliable. I have unplugged the programmer in the middle of programming just to see if it would hurt anything. Turns out when you plug it back in it just sets everything back to stock. I have never had a hickup and done over a hundred re-programs. Second, with a set of injectors the top end is anything but flat. With 100hp injectors I pull over 30lbs of boost on the top end and can outrun my brother's 05 cummins which is tuned with a smarty jr. As for the quick power changes you can't beat the comp. I have both and honestly love both of them. The smarty is perfect for towing, while to comp makes great top end power. Just my opinion not trying to upset anyone!
  4. Interesting thought! By torquing down the injector hold downs first do you think it could cause a crossover tube to leak where it seats against the injector? This would just cause the injection pump to pump high pressure fuel back to the tank
  5. Thanks for the help guys I'll let him know what you have suggested and let him decide!
  6. Any thoughts on these? http://www.dieselautopower.com/Dodge-Cummins-5-9L-Common-Rail-Injector-2003-2004-p/cr-new-stainless-50hp-05-07.htm?1=1&CartID=0
  7. I have a buddy with an 03 and his injectors are dying. He is looking for a good place to buy some injectors that won't destroy the bank. I told him about DAP, but we aren't sure just how good they are. Has anyone ever run DAP common rail injectors? Are they reliably and high quality? I know my 100hp 24V injectors are great, he just wants some reassurance. Thanks in advance!
  8. I would hold off on rotating the tires before you take it for a test drive! Only change one thing at a time so that you know what exactly caused the problem. Might help others in the future too.
  9. Test the wire tap to see if it is connected
  10. If your engine is making power and just won't shift into fourth, it sounds like a transmission problem??
  11. Read codes, fill out you signature so we know all mods done to the truck. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If so what psi do you have to the pump? Sounds like your transmission not holding the power maybe??
  12. Thanks Ed! I'll be talking to Jacob before I attempt to put in on. My brother ordered himself a new turbo this morning, so he said I can have his he351 for free! Are you using a controller for the veins, or are you building something?
  13. But Chip was still there... Now that he isn't things could be slipping. I am speaking from personal experience with Doug. He was very difficult to get a hold of, never returned my phone calls, and charged me shipping for the pos pumps that went bad on me. I also speak from personal experience with 2 bad injection pumps from him in less than a month. I told Doug if he screwed me over I would never speak highly of his company, and I intend to keep that promise.
  14. Blue Chip is now bull SH** as far as I'm concerned. Chip no longer owns the company and Doug is running the place into the ground with terrible prices, service, and screwing people over.
  15. I am doing my best to convince my brother to buy a new turbo so I can have his! As soon as he pulls the trigger I will try to get it on and do a write up. If I do put it on, I will use the flange off of his old exhaust and weld it to my downpipe, clock the turbo to the correct position, either tap the housing for a boost elbow, or buy the bolt that is pre- tapped, build a wastegate mount, and buy other boots and pipes as needed!
  16. If Bosch requires new PSG's, how does Blue Chip sell pumps with old computers??
  17. Sadly, I didn't even know about DAP before I bought my pump :banghead: I don't plan on eating another one, but if I do that's where it will come from!
  18. Well I also have my injection pump warranty that I don't want to void.... After the warranty is up I may do exactly what you said!
  19. Sorry MoparMan I forgot to update my signature! I dropped in a set of 100hp DAP injectors last week. With my smarty maxed the egt's are maxed at about 1300. I think if I tapped the pump I could easily hit 1500 or higher... I've never been up that high before... I'm too scared!
  20. I think if I put the comp back on and tap the pump my egt's will be unmanageable. I'll have to wait until I get a different turbo to make some real power!
  21. I LOVE these injectors. My engine is probably half as loud as it was before when it is idling and at higher throttle. The injectors are very powerful with just the smarty! 33 pounds of boost out of the stock turbo,(1300 egt) and I can run right with my brother's 05 which has as smarty jr. intake, and exhaust. As for smoke, it all depends on how you drive it... It can black out 4 lanes of highway without a problem, or you can drive it nice and have zero smoke out of it. Honestly best thing I have done for the truck so far.
  22. Im looking at a BD super B, or the he351cw off of an 05
  23. Update: Today I installed a set of 100 horse DAP injectors, and all problems have stopped! No more air pumping through the return lines and pressurizing my tank. To clean the holes out i used a 12 gauge shotgun cleaner and bent the brass down so that it would remove the carbon build up from the leaking injector seals. As for the injectors, I was told that it may run hot with the stock turbo, but with the smarty on level 9 The tuning is almost perfect! 33 pounds of boost and manageable egt's. I'm sure if I tapped my pump with the edge comp I would be in trouble with the egts, but for now it is tuned almost perfectly. Thanks again everyone for the suggestions and help!
  24. A new turbo will be coming soon as well. Thank you for the advice
