M14x2x115 Bolt
Gotta love April in Minnesota....... Last April we got 50.4 inches of snow and this season so far (before this snow) we were at 118 inches. The record is 136 inches. I am in the NE corner of Carlton County on this map (just beyond the arrow):

Cheap, do it yourself exhaust
I got a good deal on a 4inch Diamond Eye and it fit great. Easy to install with clamps and a muffler for a tic over $100

working with copper some questions
All of them are two plus hours south of me. Tell them you want to build one close to Lake Superior! I know of a few campgrounds close!!

PM received. It will be on its way soon as the snow lets up.

Cheap, do it yourself exhaust
Most auto parts stores can get you the parts you need and also get band clamps for your exhaust.

These are the ones holding the box to the frame, correct? I have a couple of extras. If they are the right ones PM me your address and I will send you one.

Quieter 2nd Gen.
The only way to quiet the VP trucks to the level of a CR is by turning the key off. What you are hearing is the sudden rise of cylinder pressure due to the injector putting fuel into the cylinder. The CR trucks have 'multi-shot' injections to make the cylinder pressure rise more gradually. As far as timing on a VP pumped (along with the P-pumped and VE pumped) engine the more retarded the timing is the more subdued the sound is and the more advanced it is the more harsh the sound is.

Yep. That is why I am driving a 1996 truck and my fifthwheel is a 2006 and I am still paying on it........

You won't need to touch the VP if you are going to tab the KDP.

Like I said, brazing would be the strongest and next would be silver solder. You could also use some 95/5 plumbing solder.
-
working with copper some questions
You can use brazing rod to weld the copper to steel, or you could use silver solder too, but the brass is stronger. You will get some electrolysis by using dissimilar metals but you should be good where welded. What kind of base plate do you have?

5k trip
I know what you mean. I wound up retiring about 7 years earlier than planned so now I have a 1996 truck and not a bunch of hope of going a lot newer. Oh well, it is what it is. My truck is in pretty good shape for being old enough to vote so maybe I can keep it that way for a while.

5k trip
You got that right, JR. Just remember, it is about 3,200 miles one way to Anchorage from here so you are looking at about 4,000 from your house....

5k trip
Now that I am retired I hope to do something like that someday. I really want to go to Alaska. I was told it was 70 hours drive time one way from my house. I do plan on using my camper a lot more though.

Suggestion's for upgrade's for Heavy 5th wheel towing?
You can find a scale at most larger truck stops or maybe at a feed mill. Sometimes the state weigh stations will leave the scale and display on after they close and you can weigh there too.

valet switch
You can d it about any way you want. You could put in a solenoid and put the switch anywhere you want or you could plumb some tubing and put a valve in line and mount the valve where you want.
