  1. Congrats on the TDI! Both of my kids have one. How many miles on the Jetta? Just an FYI, the recommended mileage to change the timing belt is 80,000 miles, not the 100,000 miles like the book says.
  2. You aren't an idiot. You are like the rest of us........ Now,for the driveshaft, that movement is in the slip joint, right? That seems like a fair amount of play, but I have seen worse that functioned just fine.
  3. But what broke the rings?
  4. Nice sound when it fires up again, EH? Congrats on fixing it!!
  5. Glad to hear it was a fairly simple fix!
  6. My question is why did she need to be in the left lane anyhow? That is one of the biggest causes of road rage. That being said, I love what Karma can do! That would be a good one to show the local law enforcement when they investigate the 'accident'.
  7. I had a feeling it would go like this. Generally if you want a decent computer a computer store or shop would be your best bet. Do you have the original set up disks that came with the old computer? If you do you can re-image a new hard drive and get it up and running or you can download a bootable Linux disk and run it that way. Michael would be able to assist you there.
  8. I believe that the spacer is there for alignment purposes if I remember right. I know there is one on my daughter's truck and I have seen them on other Dodge 4WD trucks. For some reason the right front needed to be moved out 1/8" to get the wheel in the proper spot. They are actually quite common, but if they don't fall off they won't be noticed.
  9. A lot of trucks had the 1/8" wheel spacer on the right side. Leave it and don't loose any sleep over it!
  10. Even if it is not a 911 topic pull the cover around the steering column and you just may find a wire or two that are broken.
  11. There ya go! I knew somebody would come up with the right answer. Here I thought the fuse you wanted was under the hood........
  12. That is normal compressor cycling. Like Michael said, if the low side drops too much the low pressure switch opens and shuts the compressor off so the system does not freeze up.
  13. Check all the fuses in the box behind the left battery. Check the fusible links that come from the left battery too. That is about all I can do...........
  14. I don't want the name of the person or the forum to be released to the general public. That would be counter productive.
  15. I got into a discussion on another site and here is the gist of it: It made me so mad that I am seriously thinking of walking away from attempting to help anyone wherer this other member is. I asked for clarification (pointed him to the VP teardown thread here) and then got this: I hate snarky comments.........
  16. Probably. You will get air into the pump and cause it to cavitate.
  17. If you put a relay in in place of the pump you are trying to run you are going to have such a light load on the ECM that it will have about a zero chance of causing harm to it. Then you could switch just about any size load.
  18. So, the REAL question is.......... What do you think of towing with a 6.7L, Michael?
  19. You may also want to check with your insurance company. That may be covered under comprehensive. Surprising how much damage a tire can do.
  20. Is the vibration just under acceleration or continuous? If it is just under acceleration then you shim the carrier bearing to straighten out the driveshaft. It can take as much as 1/4" of shims. If it is constant then you may have had a balace weight remove itself from the shaft in which case you may be able to find another one to replace it.
  21. Make sure you check them inside and out real close. Quite often the problem is not real easy to spot.
  22. I am experiencing pretty much the same symptoms on my 2012 VW. After taking it in to the dealer (under 22k miles) and winding up in contact with VW of America, I diagnosed it to be the left brake rotor. It has hard spots in it and is causing the problem. Check your rotors and you may see some spots that look like they may have been hot.
  23. Must be nice to hear a turbo whistle....
  24. If your converter is slipping under light throttle like that then you have problems that need to be addressed.
  25. The 6.2L and 6.5L were used from 1982 through 2000. Far as the 350 being converted: The only thing the 5.7L diesel shared with the 5.7L gas was tranny bolt patterns and motor mounts. Other than that they were completely different engines. If you were working on both and only looking at the crank from the underside you would see very little similarities.
