  1. One just needs to be creative, I have basic tools up to 3" but like I posted before not really anything special needed to do one. Long punch and hammer and maybe a clam type puller is all that's needed and you can get those for 20 bucks or less. A large vise works in place of a press and it doesn't take a fancy press by any means if one uses one in place of a vice. With a cheap old AC welder over the years and some junk iron one can build home made sockets in less than a half an hour, have many of them for my tool collection over the years on the road and not having access to any "special' tools. This is dumb iron, no preloads or back lashes to set. if you can figure out VP44's this is kindergarten stuff in comparison.
  2. Sounds like he was another one who fell victim to the modern opioid pain killer addiction epidemic after he had hip surgery a couple years ago. Another musician who is a huge philanthropist is Alice Cooper in the Phoenix AZ area, have a lot of family and friends down there that say he does wonders for the area. Saw him in concert a few years ago and it was much like a Broadway play / musical act rather than what one would expect from his 70's persona.
  3. Looks exactly like my 22 mile one way gravel road this last week and again this week as it is raining right now again. Got the Hemi on the hoist servicing the drivetrain oils and found one rear bilstein shock with oil literally running out of it with a puddle on the ground and my air bags came loose from the upper mounts as the mounting bolts broke off and 3 of the 4 small plates are gone so now to build or buy more of those so the air bags came off until I get parts now. Service and maintenance never ends when one rattles down rough azz country roads 200+ miles every week. Update, I called the company about my air bags and they sent me a heavier air bag mounting kit for free as warranty, said they had all sorts of issues and quickly realized the easy road testing they did in Cali didn't take into account the driving and environmental conditions of the real world so they redesigned the mounting system to something that will definitely hold up better.
  4. Plus the fact that we are wide open straight line roads where even the gravel road speed limits are in a lot of places 50 mph but everyone drives 60+ mph on them too. Hard to find a trailer with any paint on the front of them after they are a couple years old if they see any gravel.
  5. Not dirt roads, "Gravel" roads basically sand to mostly pea to dime sized pebbles that the tires kick up and bounce off the front of the trailer and back at the pickup. Especially more pronounces when towing due to a bit more slippage. All roads here are gravel with basically wind rows of rocks. Windshield rock chips are a way of life here, tons and tons of window companies here.
  6. I just stole an image from the net to show what I ordered, I just ordered them this morning so will not see them for few days. A lot of guys around here swear by them versus all the other brands and styles out there.
  7. Hell just do it the right way all around then and stick with the 5 speed then add a 4 speed brownie box behind that and transplant a two speed rear axle into the old girl. Or find an 18 speed eaton with under drive granny gear and double OD gears. Either way you will be covered for every scenario.
  8. After about 30 years of towing trailers and beating up tail gates and a couple of back windows and side mirrors knocked out over the years from rocks bouncing off the trailers on gravel roads I broke down this morning and bought a nice set of Rock tamer adjustable rock guards off amazon. I thought when I was pulling my dump trailer to the farm was going to lose another back window, had a couple hard hits and they made my wife jump a bit when she heard it too lol. A bit late in the game after having had a couple tail gates repainted over the years too but better late than never. I also noticed a couple dings on the front side of my pontoons too, looks to be from rocks while in tow which makes me really sad, that's my baby and I don't like to see her get hurt. Just a pic I swiped from the net to show what they are and what they would look like on a true tow beast lol. "Not my rig in the pic".
  9. The guy in my pic is Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, hard core drug user most of his life and open about it and refuses to be labeled a quitter, he has cut down on the Heroin and Cocaine use in his older age but still hits the weed and booze fairly hard yet which is what makes the meme so funny being in his early 70's now.
  10. To get around this is to just have several non-gender specific one hole rest rooms again the way things used to be and get away from having large commons style bathrooms. Or the way many gas station rest areas are and one must ask the person at the desk for a key. Although we shouldn't even be having this discussion because the .01 % social justice warrior types make a bigger stink than the millions of common people.
  11. This is one social disease that will end very badly I suspect for many transgender freaks. Here in ND if one walked into a woman's bathroom in the wrong area he would not be walking back out except on a gurney headed for the morgue. I think I know more women who conceal carry than I do men around here. How many would want one in the bathroom with their young daughters?
  12. Autos are different than manuals in regards to oil temps, totally dependent on where the temps are measured at in an auto "could be deep frier hot coming out of the converter and show 30-50* less in the sump" where it is not in a manual, you have a case and sump and that's it.
  13. Sorry for you and your families loss Jag. But on a side note the last time we fought for our freedom was WWII and our gov knew of the pearl harbor attacks well in advance and could have prevented all the loss of life in Hawaii but let it happen because it was the only way to get involved in the war at the time. All "conflicts" since have been totally and purely politically and financially driven and had nothing to do with our freedoms except to help in eroding them away slowly.
  14. Those numbers are really low "one can safely add about 30-50* to what you posted" and every oil has its own set of specifications one must check first to determine what the safe limits are for your specific brand and weight of oil.
  15. Its been around since the 24v 2nd gens, was fairly popular early on for them for the guys not wanting to invest in an edge ez or similar, was a low cost option and simple way of adjusting the timing a wee bit.
  16. You can try the company I used to work for years ago, they have a store in Missoula Montana. http://www.inlandtruck.com/locations/montana/missoula/ The NV4500 is easy peasy, you would have zero issues rebuilding it yourself. The NV 5600 is a different animal I would not recommend a first timer to try though. But then again if you can get one for 1500 bucks with warranty I wouldn't even waste my own time rebuilding it. Parts could eat up most of that and there would be no warranty. I have rebuilt many 4500's and have never had or seen the need for any special tools other than the basics.
  17. Carefull with that load Mike, you have a lot of weight behind the trailer axles, she could get squirlly on you, keep the speeds slow and make sure the trailer brakes work well.
  18. You must have almost been in South Dakota then if it was an hour SW of Jamestown which is 125 miles straight east of me.
  19. Where did you find it at and what are the plans for it? I know it wasn't close to me, we have not had that much snow all winter in total.
  20. Ha Ha, I watched a documentary recently about engineering and engineers and one that was interviewed put it great by saying "We as engineers do not need to get anything exact, just close enough to work as intended"...............Pretty much sums up design flaws in everything man made lol.
  21. Yes, D-rings built right into the side wlls inside the trailer in all 4corners. I installed air bags shortly after buying the 1500. It squats pretty easy with coil springs in the rear even with a fairly light load. I also have 3/4" leveling spacers under the rear coils and adjustable height Bilstein front struts set one notch below the highest setting, tried high setting and it caused a vibration at certain speeds due to the excessive angle on the cv joints on the outer axles the same as the 1.5 inch leveling spacer I had in it originally. Set it down one notch and it performs flawlessly.
  22. It has ramps just the same as a car trailer, these trailers are designed to be used as a skid loader or small tractor hauler. The ramps store underneath in the frame rails the same as they do on many car trailers. Buddy wants to try and use it to haul a small compact car but one would need to crawl out the window to get out lol.
