  1. If you are not replacing the gears the original shim pack is ok, always always always get a new crush sleeve, never reuse the old one.
  2. In all actuality I would have expected to see the price tag a lot higher than its estimated 48-50K. In comparison to some standard optioned 2500 diesels it is actually cheaper with more options and capabilities. Like I said in the title, just a "Dream".
  3. I have been seeing and watching the stories of the new improved for 2017 Ram 2500 Power wagon. http://www.motortrend.com/news/2017-ram-2500-power-wagon-4x4-off-road-package-first-look-review/
  4. Hey look Mike carries a trucker urinal, road side bomb, juice jug, whatever you want to call it.............................. I think that is under the seat of Mopar moms rig, has a diaper bag, tissue, tp ABC's and 123's and snacks, I think this is what she needs to care for Michael yet.
  5. Biggest reason for front diff failures is moisture and lack of regular maintenance. I have been into just as many if not more front diffs and moisture is the main culprit from my experience. people think that because they do not use 4X4 often it isn't as important just because the oil "Looks" ok. The live or even semi live front axles we have helps but one still needs to change the front diff oil just as often if not more so than the rear diff oil. I have a suction gun I just suck some of the oil out of the plug hole every 20K miles or so during normal oil changes and replenish it that way and then do a cover off oil change and flush every 50k or so.
  6. How do you know there is a bad bearing? No need to change out an entire diff, the worst part of that job is pulling the axles, the rest is easy if just a pinion bearing. Bearings are cheap.
  7. You can run the regular 80-90 but if you tow heavy I would change it more often but like Mike said if its a limited slip I would definitely stick with the synthetic 75-90 as well.. As far as the t-case I would definitely stick with atf.
  8. I tell everyone not to look at brand names ect, Go with whoever offers the best prorated warranty in the proper group size. An old timer once told me you can always spot a cheaply made battery due to the built in handles, makes them easier to change every year, I have actually seen some truth to that lol. My 05 has 125K miles and still runing the factory original OEMS.
  9. I let mine get down to under 400* B4 shut down, if coming in from the road and not towing or pulling it only takes about 30 seconds to get there, if it was real hot and towing it takes a minute or two to hit 400* or less.
  10. That's just what someone called it I don't know the correct term for it, was definitely not like a normal helicopter. I could hear the wind from it but not the thumping sound a regular one makes. They have one in Bismarck and rarely ever fly it solo cause from several I know in the military they don't want the masses to know about it. I have seen it and it has a different look to it than the one it runs with as well. I was visiting with a medi vac helo pilot from our local hospital a few months ago as we have several helo landing spots on the mine I work at and had a fly in and a class on emergency response and what to do to help them get in and out safely and he was recently retired the air NG so I asked him about it and he laughed and pretty much confirmed it to me. I came face to face with it like I say it was a breezy / windy day so it blended in with the surrounding noise very well but had it been a regular one I would have heard it loooonnng before that. I think the ones in Bismarck are black hawks and the "Less noisy one" has an enclosed tail rotor. The medi vac pilot said the hospital he works for is ordering a new one with some different designed blade tips and enclosed tail rotor as well to be a lot less obnoxious when flying.
  11. I use amsoil metal protector on tools that don't get usd a lot but a silicone spray would work fine too About the only tools I have that tend to get a bi of rust is some of my impact sockets that don't get used a lot other than that I have not seen much rust issues luckily but I suspect you southern boys have it a bit different.
  12. AH64ID that you? Funny thing is I have actually witnessed our local air NG boys doing this stuff with their silent blade helos, chasing game not actually shooting it though, came face to face with them one day in the hills along the Missouri river, first time I ever saw a near silent Helo from about 50 feet away as we crested the hill from opposite sides lol. Friend I was hunting with knew one of the pilots and asked him about it and they laughed and said its the best way to find good hunting spots..............................our tax dollars at work folks.
  13. If it was a buddy doing it would be different than a stranger doing it, had he done that to me not knowing what the hell people are thinking now days he would have been beaten to a bloody pulp and would fit down the drain when I was done with him.
  14. My other bro in law was on a sub for many years as an officer in charge of the nuclear power generation.
  15. The road crews are doing that more and more around here now too.
  16. Here is a link to a clamp on type. http://www.genosgarage.com/product/acutemp-adapter/gauge-related I do the converter outlet line tap right at the trans, hottest oil in the system and most accurate place to check it on the 2nd gens. Or read it off the Smarty touch Via the OBDII port now lol.............. The oil in the pan is the coldest oil in the system, it has returned to sump through the entire cooling system.
  17. My Bro in law spent 4 years in commercial flight school but never took that route in life after he graduated and always says helo pilots are half suicidal lol. I have heard they can be controlled to some extent.
  18. At least in a plane if it quits you are in an expensive glider. Helo's on the other hand become a brick rather quickly.
  19. We have all sorts of snakes around my area but the bull snakes are super territorial and keep the rattlers away from my immediate area but they are around, there is a creek right in front of my house and there are rarely rattlers on the north side of it, head just a few miles south and west of my house and they become more prevalent.
  20. I have seen good driveline guys do a realignment / balance of a shaft and not even touch a weight just by hitting the tube with a bit of heat with a torch in specific spots to help pull one end a bit straighter at the weld area of the yoke to shaft area depending on what he sees in the balance and dial indicator checks.
  21. A press is the best tool for changing the hanger bearing and Then spin balance it afterwards. Having worked at a shop with a driveline spin balancer it is amazing how little weight it takes to cause a vibration and by simply changing a u-joint or hanger bearing can totally throw off the balance of a driveline not to mention out of balance driveline is the main cause for u-joint and bearing failures to start with. Fix the cause along with the symptom and worn parts when dealing with drivelines.
  22. For my wife its snakes, I am opposite I love snakes and will always be the first one to try and catch them and check them out no matter the size type poison factor ect doesn't scare me at all. If My wife sees one from a distance and it going mach 9.9 in the opposite direction instantly lol. I have many friends scared to death of mice, I find that to be the oddest one.
  23. I mean in a way of what scares you in life. For me its spiders. If they are outside and in nature and I see them first I am totally ok with them, its the ones I can't see in closed dark spaces that creep the hell out of me and then the webs that you get entangled in not knowing if there are spiders in them or not. The other thing is when I find one crawling on me, I become the best acrobat on planet earth at that point lol. This is my type of identifying chart when in my house.
