Power Steering and Brake Fluid
How difficult is it to break down the calipers and clean them up?

Power Steering and Brake Fluid
I am going to change brake fluid and power steering fluid this weekend. Can anyone tell me how much of each I will need? Is there any advantage of going with synthetic? Amsoil is about $8 a pint.

Hard start after sitting over night, losing prime maybe?
I would address the leaks that you found and look for any others. It sounds like you are already on the right track.

Winter Front
Thanks for the replies. I'll knock it out this weekend.

Winter Front
I acquired a stack of corrugated-plastic "Vote for me" signs from my father in law and plan to make winter fronts for my truck. How much of the grill do I need to leave open?

weak air flow out of vent?
Does anyone have experience with this product?

weak air flow out of vent?
If you can find something on this please share with the rest of us. I am experiencing something similar, although mine seems to be intermittant. The fan is turning but almost no air flow out of the vents. A month or two ago I pulled my fan to see if debree was plugging any of the ducting. I did find a handful of garbage in the fan, but nothing that I would have thought could block off air flow. I couple of times during these moments of bad air flow I have smelled something burning, not an electrical smell but more of a paper smell. I looked all over trying to find leaves that may have got hot and had fumes seep into the air circulation. One thing that I have found is if I cycle my vent selector my issue will usually clear up and work as advertised. Good luck, I hope you figure yours out.

Blower Motor
There are three screws that hold it in. You don't have to remove the dash, the motor sits below the golve box. There is a screw on the back of the motor, close to the firewall, that is difficult to get to but not impossible. It just drops right down after they are removed. 15 minutes in and out.

Fuel Boss Mechanical Lift Pump System
I have no desire to change anything. I am solely curious why my system seems to be different than others. My fuel pressure is rock solid at 17 psi, not sure what anything more than that would get me.

Hard starts and weird tach
The hard start sure sounds like you are losing your prime. How long does your truck have to sit to create the hard start? I have had to chase down a fuel leak before and it doesn't have to be a big leak. Even the slightest leak can be a culprit if it sits long enough.

Fuel Boss Mechanical Lift Pump System
I hear a lot of people say that their fuel pressure increases with throttle with a Fuel Boss. I have never seen that with mine. The bypass valve that is installed with the fuel boss regulates the pressure to about 18 psi. Are people modifing something so the pressure does increase with the skinny pedal? My pressure is at 17 psi and does not move much from there.

Fuel Boss Mechanical Lift Pump System
I have the fuel boss as well and I really like it. I am using the stock filter so I don't have any experience with after market filter. Send an e-mail to richard at GDP, he'll respond pretty quick. The e-mail that I have for him is sales@glacierdieselpower.com.

Fuel Line Question
I have 3/8 fuel line for my system as well and with my Fuel Boss I don't see any pressure fluctuation. It stays rock solid at 17psipsi. For me, I don't see the benifits outweighing the cost and time.

The Pain of Servicing Duals
Have you hadany issues with your extenders leaking?

The Pain of Servicing Duals
I bought my dually more because I got a great deal rather than for the necessity that I had for dual rear wheels. At first I wasn't sure I liked the wider back end but I have come to terms with it and really don't mind the extra pair of tires at all...except when it comes to checking air pressure and servicing the back tires. What a pain in the butt! I have stock wheels so in order to access the valve stem on either the inside or outside tire I have to remove the chrome beauty ring and coerce my 11 year old to help me remove the valve stem caps. My hands are too big to fit through the holes in the rims and removing the outside tires isn't practical. I am convinced that neither my air chuck or air gauge (both are the type meant for duals) are long enough so I am in the process of procuring a gauge and chuck that are longer to reach both stems. I have seen different products on the internet such as valve stem extenders, but I have also seen reviews of them leaking. Does anyone have great success stories of a product of technique that will make servicing rear wheels easier?

Happy with the new batteries
You are correct, but where do you find a 12 volt battery with 650 amp hours? And when you find them how big are they and what is the cost? For the money, the 6v gave me the most amp hours for my money. The most I could find in a 12 volt was 90 amp hours, in parrallel that would only give me 180. There are a lot of options out there and with some imagination and $$ you can put together a system that works best for your situation.

Happy with the new batteries
I took my boys fishing Fontenelle Reservoir in southwest Wyoming over the past several days and wanted to give my opinion on the batteries that I recently put in my trailer. In July I bought 2 Energizer EGC2-122 (6V/232 amp hour) batteries from Sam's Club. I have taken the trailer out a couple of times since I bought them but only for a couple of days at a time. We spent 5 days and 4 nights in camp with no ability to recharge the batteries (I don't have a generator or solar panels, yet.) I was nervous about them lasting the trip so I tried to be as conservative as possible and as much as 2 young boys will allow. The highs were in the 50's and 60's but the lows were in the low to mid 20's and it felt it for sure. I kept the thermostat low at night while we slept so as to not kill my power, but ever being conservative the furnace ran quite a bit. I have a Mr Heater that I run inside the trailer in the morning to warm things up and that helped to take the chill off. After I got camp set up the batteries were sitting at 12.7 vdc and yesterday just as I was pulling out I measured them again and they were at 12.2 vdc. Not bad at all in my opinion. Granted, I am not using the power that some use. I tried to use the lights as little as possible, but the we did run the radio in the trailer about 4-5 hours a day and I was half convinced my boys were going to wear out the water pump--we are still working on showing them how to not turn the water on full blast to wash their hands. So all-in-all, I would recommend these batteries to anyone that may be looking. I am going to look into a solar panel kit. It would have been nice to have kept the trailer warmer and knowing that they will get some sort of recharge throughout the day. I guess I'll put that on my letter to Santa. It was a great trip for Father and Sons. I think I may have an issue with the thermostat in the truck but other than that I have nothing to complain about. Here is a picture of my youngest son and his 19" rainbow. Kind of makes it all worth it.

Mouse in the trailer
Thanks for the ideas. I think I got rid of the mouse, no more sign for a few days but I never did catch one on the sticky trap either--hopefully he left and isn't dead somewhere in the trailer . I have used dryer sheets before and the seemed to work. I will give the Fresh Cab a try. My biggest concern is closing off some of the possible entrance areas for the critter. The trailer is parked in a pasture, not too far from my barn so mice are always around. Maybe I should cut the rations for the cat?

Mouse in the trailer
I found evidence of a mouse in my trailer. I was going to go through with a can of expanding foam but was wondering if rodents will chew through that and eventually make their way back in. Thoughts?

Gauge Time ISSPro EV2's
You can program backlight intensity as well as a red warning light on the gauge. For example, you could program the light to come on if your fuel pressure falls below 14 psi. You have to get the software and programing cable. I know that Geno's has it. I have these same guages, but I have yet to program mine. http://www.genosgarage.com/ISSPRO-ATTRIBUTE-PROGRAMMER-FOR-EV-PERFORMAX/productinfo/ISS-R82003/

Crankcase Vent Mod - question
I glued all mine. I put threaded fittings on the piece that goes down. That way I can unscew that and remove the PVC for maintenance.

Trying to decide on what tires to buy...
Last year I put a set of Toyo Open Countys on my DRW. I was nervous about driving a duelly on wet and slick roads thinking that the wider profile on each side could equate to less control. However, I never notice any issues. The attached picture was what I found and drove home in after work one night last December. The roads were snowpacked and the state plows couldn't keep up with the downfall. I passed by several rigs that had run off the road but I never felt the tires spin or a loss of control. I am certainly not bragging about my mad winter-driving skills, but I was really impressed about the traction that these tires give me. Not sure if this helps you are not, but this is my 2 cents worth.

Air dog taking a crap
I have the FUEL BOSS and I have been extremely impressed by it. By pressure sits at 17 PSI and doesn't move. A lot of people claim that their pressure will increase with throttle but my stays solid and that is due to the bypass valve. My pressure used to be all over the place before I installed the mechanical lift pump, I don't worry about it now. If your Air Dog is done for, I would certainly recommend the Fuel Boss, it only took me a couple of hours to install.
