  1. I also use the OD for when to kick down out of OD. but it seems to be right on with the trans shifting but don't like when it shifts down on cruise control and just revs to high for me. When the egt go to a certain level I remove OD and take my foot off the pedal and take it out of over drive.
  2. Time for a back up mechanical gauge. my electric gauge always reads 29-30 psi the mechanical one reads 18 psi I can only use the electric one as a reference. I have change out the sender and only last for short time being correct.
  3. when you say magnet are you dropping the magnet in the hole or keeping the tap magnetized.
  4. for the auto guy you will need to force the trans into lock up
  5. There is a video that shows how to install a cable that has a lock when turned Napa is where I got mine and you can manually activated. I still plan on doing it but have not yet done it. No more vacuum and you can move a trailer around or what ever in low range without having the front diff locked up
  6. I have a pac brake on my 98 truck. I see no control other then gas pedal when not depressed it will activate the vacuum switch under the hood. I have had to clean the vacuum switch a few time and now it has been good for several years. I did have a problem similar to yours and the brake would hang up and I would have to get out and push the lever to release. finally in stopped working altogether I call pacbrake and there answer was to replace it that was not an option I wanted to hear.l bought there hi temp grease and took the whole thing apart and cleaned it and lubed it and it has been perfect for the last couple of years using it helps it stay freed up as well. How easy does the lever move with the engine off and not vacuum should move very freely?
  7. Well thats just what I will do as you guy suggested, want this to be running for a long time.
  8. There are a few of these on sale around town, ebay has them all the time I paid $1500 with the chevy 4 speed sm465, I am actually leaving this afternoon to pick up the NV4500 newer version 1999. It does not have the motor tag so my guess it is the 105 hp model. heavy like the 6bt. about 750 lbs. + the trans. Hope to recoup some of my money on the 4 speed and bellhousing great trans. but I have an explorer rear end on my S10 frame with 3.73 gears and the better option was to get the od trans rather they deal with the gear change in the rear end.
  9. Sounds like a plan, I think my boy had a similiar way of doing it glad it is al. and not sand or iron filings.
  10. Picked up a short 12 valve. 4BT when they pulled the motor they took the valve covers off and then cut out some of the front of the aluminum bodied bread truck and got shaving on the valve train. a lot of it blew off on the 50 mile trip home. I have cleaned the motor and blew off as much as possible and have put the valve covers back on. I have never run the motor and plan to fire it up and they drain the oil and replace it. any other suggestion or better ideas. before the install into my 53 Chevy. I want to do the KDP, adj. the valves, New crank seal and install my new to me NV4500 trans chevy bell housing. thanks guys. I here all this talk of KBS but my motor does not have one??
  11. I really can't help much, I did test drive a truck that did what you are saying and it was obvious because the wife asked what was going on. The truck I did purchase some 5 years ago has the DTT transmission and it has a DTT Noise Filter just a thought. Not sure if it is any better then what you have. We put a lock up switch on my boys truck and when his had some slipping issues we locked up the TC and realized that his problem was the torque converter going bad since locking it up did not solve the issue had the TC changed out and valve body installed and some minor upgrades done inside the trans and worked fine. Hopefully it is not a bad torque converter. BUT this is symptomatic of the noise from the alternator and or bad grounds.
  12. for my fuel pressure gage I have an electric gage on the column, BUT have a mechanical gage at the lift pump, the electric gage is way off but gives me an idea if I need to look under the truck at the mechanical gage.
  13. very common for the seal to wear a grove in metal. they make sleeve covers for this purpose
  14. can you just put a straight from the battery 12v. or as you did and take an amp reading off the pump. I have the older air dog been fine for some 6 years now
  15. my boy and I use DeoxIT D5 we call it miracle juice because of all the electric parts switches it has fixed. He bought a used switch set for his windows and when we installed it not go. I took his old ones and sprayed them and they started to work again. this has happened many times with this product kinda expensive. On the other hand I have a DTT transmission and this company had a filter that helps with the stray induced voltage that sometimes caused transmission hesitation on the 2nd gens. might be work checking into. I am a believer in the dielectric greases to seal the connections. Use it on snap connection on my buggy that are exposed on the cage of the buggy. and for the ones under the hood and in the open. good luck Ed
  16. Hi John, I am down the road from you in Agua Dulce, I came up the Grape Vine with my 5th wheel and the outside temp was over 100 degrees outside and I stopped at top to cool the trans down. I have a DTT trans. and added a cooler under the truck. We put a sw. for a lock up on my boys truck and he used it. Might have to add one to my truck. BUT my real question is where are you measuring the the temp of the trans. Where is your trans temp sensor. I get a lower reading with the laser temp. gun.Ed
  17. I don't believe there is a sensor that monitors oil pressure for low or no pressure, even though you can monitor the pressure at the gage, You can run out of oil and burn up the engine without any alarm or notification.
  18. I can go 2 3 4 or more weeks before my truck is used. so I have it plugged in to a smart charger maybe 1 amp. If I do not do that it will be dead in a couple of weeks. I have not gone any further in checking the loads on the battery but that seems normal for all the garbage that need to run when just sitting. my toyota that is not used much has a small solar charger from a VW that is used during shipping to the usa. alway up even when I go away for a few weeks.
  19. Most are on the front of the engine left passenger side, mine is on the passenger side the motor not on the front and has a cap on the front of the engine
  20. if its a short bet you will need a slider hitch which I guess it is, some new 5er can manage with out a slider by the front end design of the trailer but that is an if.
  21. cant answer your question, except to that I lost a rad. about 3 days b4 vacation trip and had to buy one from oreillys or autzone to get it in time I got one and was a lot lighter by weight but has been in there for several years working good. and I pull a 11k trailer. so all has been good.
  22. i PURCHASE A LONG one for my offroad baja bug, check ebay in got one that was about 5 feet they have all lengths.
  23. what we did on my boys truck and mine was to by some military lead clamps and cut the cables and crimped on nice connectors and put double wall adhesive shrink tube on the connector and that has worked out well. I happen to have a quality crimper but you could still save money having them crimped professionally and use the same cables.
  24. I believe Genos sell heavy duty contact in a kit for improved contact points
