  1. I started working on this problem tonight and found a couple problems. The side I replaced the cylinder had old looking oil all over in it. There were no signs of leaks at all and I cleaned everything really good with brake clean when I reassembled it so where did the oil come from? Were the pads that saturated and it came out over time? On the other side I have a leaking axle seal. Is there a write up on fixing that?

  3. That sounds like something I can do! Did you just pull the lines out of the valve and couple them together?
  4. I have that valve. I actually have it disconnected and tied up slightly. I suspected it was load sensing and did that in hopes it might help. It didn't help but could it hinder? I'll take a closer look at the adjusters etc.
  5. My rear brakes (drum) have never really grabbed much. I recently replaced a leaking wheel cylinder and for a few brake applications they worked awesome. The rear abs actually activated. By now I'm back to the previous laziness. What can be wrong? It's a real pain having only front brakes at icey intersections.
  6. -23*F here but only 15 mph +/- wind. Yesterday the wind was much worse.
  7. I have weather much like you have (-55F wind chill today!!) and my grids always run even when the truck is plugged in. I haven't observed if they run as long as when it's unplugged but they definitely are on for a bit.
  8. ^^ I agree. I have the same gauges. Very dependable.
  9. I have a lockup switch on my truck and I use it all the time while towing to hold a gear. I'm sure most people will say I'm playing with fire doing so but i use it carefully and so far no issues.
  10. Mine is a 2000. I haven't changed them but the previous owner may have, I don't know.
  11. Those tires will be sucking a couple of mpg's. I figured mine took 2-3 when I ran that size.
  12. My truck has 2 piston calipers.
  13. Funny. My wife and I also flew Christmas Day and we found it just the opposite. Half full flights and very empty airports. We spent the week before Christmas with her family in Nova Scotia.
  14. I just put T-6 0W-40 in my 24 valve. I'll be watching for oil consumption.
  15. I'd believe it could just be the difference in oils. At one job I had running heavy equipment they used Co-op oil and some dozers burned a fair bit. One operator started running a different brand ( I believe Penzoil ) and his oil consumption nearly disappeared.
  16. I didn't watch the video but by your description my truck does the exact same thing in extreme cold.
  17. I went on a trip 3.5 hrs one way in -10 F temps. Coolant ran between 198 and 206. I had my cardboard covering the rad. Iat was steady at 60. When idling it would cool down as low as 175 even with the fast idle on. As far as mpg's change I won't be able to tell. I've never really tracked that and my use of the truck is so varied from one day or week to the next.
  18. Now I catch on! Sorry so slow
  19. I'm still not seeing myself. Nor the Alberta guys.
  20. I don't see any Canadians on there
  21. How do you teach them to go somewhere other than on the lawn? We live in the country so there's oodles of places to go but it seems like the lawn gets chosen plenty often!
  22. Welcome! What part of Alberta? I'm in SW Manitoba.
  23. I have a hole cut for the fan clutch. I've monitored ect and iat and the ect is always the first to heat up if I'm pulling hard or the weather warms up. So I just pull the cardboard at that point.
  24. I slip a piece of cardboard between the rad and the air cooler. I find I get good heat in the cab with 195 degree coolant but at 190 it's already not nearly as warm. I want to try the hotter stat to see if it helps at all. I can't see it hurting in any way. By the way it's already been down to -13 here.
