The pump that came on the truck died about three years ago, and sence then I have installed 3 vp. The first replacement came from coaltrain, it didnt last long, it surged also so the next one came from B-D did ok till it started dieing so it was under warranty and they sent this lump of you know what it surges. They finally sent email saying they would credit me, thats great but I have a lump of crap running my truck. What are they going to do about it?

You know, this thing is surging just like the 2nd vp, the only thing wrong with the last vp( 3rd) is it died all the time, no surging. Mike I think you and I had it down to the vp and the ECM, is it posiable the ecm can make it surge when you let off. It just dont make sence one vp surges and the next dies. What is your thought on have the ecm flashed or do I just need to get another (rebuild) ecm. Also the tach jumps a little, I was watching it close and it has a pattern to it, you can see it go up and down twice then it has a steddyness to it then it starts all over again, does that make sence? I really think the vp they sent is trash, they still dont return my last email.

You got that right, I have asked Mike if he had any big mountains I could borrow for a few minutes, it wouldnt take long. But he seems to think the neighbors might not like a big old goat in the back ground. Something about the fuel and oil I dont know what for sure.

Well maybe, yea, sorta, not sure, I cleanded the grounds again and pulled starter to get to ground behind starter and it was tight. But it dont die anymore, now the new vp has been surging since I put it on. The old vp didnt surged it just died, so I dont know what to think. I called BD and no responce in a week now.

Ground Wire on Block
The trigger wire in that starter is a lot better than the A/C Delco I have on my truck.

Ground Wire on Block
I dont know but I may have found something. I was pulling starter to clean ground wire on block when I noticed the small ground wire on starter was lose, so I went to tighten it and the groment was lose also so I said I will take it apart and tighten it, they usually have two nuts one on the inside. Well not this one, the only thing that keeps it from turning when you tighten it is the copper wires inside housing. So when I put new starter on I my have broke the wires inside starter or made a bad conection. So here is the million dollar question if the ground wires inside starter are loose or making bad conection will it cause the eng. to die for a split second then continue to run? Will it efect the running in anyway? Or is it only for starting the eng and no other function?

Welcome to my World
Yea it is a warranty pump but it has strings attached, They charged me 950.00 on my credit card and depending on what is wrong with my pump is how much they will reimburse may card. And thanks for the words to the man up stairs, I need all the help I can get sometimes. lolI went to the AWS welding fourm and talked to some guys and you get both answers, one guys been welding on his 02 from the day he bought it new. I am going to take the Edge Ez of and see what happens, although it is a new edge with new cable. The old one they said had croision in the connector and box.

Welcome to my World
I really didnt put that much on it honest. It came right out of the pump with very little effort.

Welcome to my World
Ok you will get a laugh out of this, I am putting my new vp on to day and I have everything back on and I am tighten the last thing, the fuel line. When all of the sudden it breaks off in the vp, I am cussing, screaming, stomping my feet when I come to and think oh crap thats the new pump. Well I get the threads out and I say I am the master welder right so I tig the piece back together, cool, I will be back and running in no time. Well I didnt take into thought that the washer has to go back on to seal, duhSo its close to 5:00 central time and I am flying to the house to get on the net to find another one. So I call and they say sure we have one and I say how much to tx. oh 50.00 (WHAT). Needless to say it wont be here till Tuesday. 25.00 bucks.Welcome to my worldYea Michael thats what the phone call was about. LOL

Unexpected results from new VP44
Yea the only thing I can do is just not weld on it and see what happens. There was a guy on here or maybe TDG that had bad luck with his and I wont to say he went thru 6 vp's. I cant for the life of remember his name.

Unexpected results from new VP44
Hey Ed you say your vp44 went out due to electrical, did it throw a code, did it die a lot during the day, surging, slight miss. My fuel mileage went from 14mpg to 18 mpg in a 10k welding truck, now the pump is going out I am back to 14mpg.

Over flow valve
I f overflow valve opens at 14lbs then with stock lift pump how can it open to circulate and cool the pump? And speaking of cooling the pump, can my Edge Ez be causing my vp44 to get hot and cause failure. I now have a new style Edge Ez with the power switch in the cab. The old Edge Ez had corrosion inside the box so they sent me a new one for 99.00. Could the corrosion cause a short or cause pump failure. I am still looking for anything to explain pump failure. I have a list of people 9 mile long that tell me I weld on my 01 bed all the time and no problems.

Vp 44 trouble, or ground problem
I think your right because the more I think about it I belive a spike in current can travel even if the grounds are disconected. And does the vp44 store some power even if disconected? That would explain it maybe, I am not that technical on these maters. I know that my welder can spike as high as 40 volts. And just because I dont weld on it dont mean my scumbag exemployee didnt weld on it. I will from now on unplug the vp when welding is necessary from now on. Michael I think we may have figured out something here, what is your thought on the storeing power deal in the vp. Here is my thought if it stores power then by the time I disconect the batts. and strike a arc then its already to late. As far as the trailer goes it has a wood floor, but if it where wet? Well I just thought about it there is no need to weld on trailer you really cant put anything on it because it would be to low, uncomfortable to work off of. A person would go to the back of the truck. And that is where my scumbage exemployee would come in to play. I hope he reads my post sometimes, because I have drug him thru the mud, not his name but just the fact he is what he is. he he he Can you imagine going to somebodys web site and saying to your self that gate looks familiar and that one too all of the sudden you say s--- this ahole stole my web site. Well thats who used to work for me. A real swell guy,uh ---------- Post added at 03:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:45 AM ---------- anybody out there

Vp 44 trouble, or ground problem
That is a good thought, but I have not welded on the truck in about two years. I installed my bed and unhooked the grounds from the batts. before welding. But I was wondering if there could be a magnetic problem with the leads being wraped on the side of the truck? I never weld with the eng. running.

Vp 44 trouble, or ground problem
Can somebody give me a number of grounds under the hood. I am thinking maybe some grounds are missing. I know the truck was wrecked before I bought it, but very little damage, left fender and grill.I am haveing problems with vp44's I am on the 4th one now, and grounds are all I can think of. I am thinking if I just go buy a wireing harness I will know all conections are good and all grounds are there. Thanks

This will be the fourth pump, 17k miles to the pump. That will make you cry uncle.

Killer VP44 thread...
Amen to that, Putting in the two stroke is the only thing that got it home.

Killer VP44 thread...
MichaelSo what is making mine die and start back up in a split second, I mean this thing died over 100 times in 10 mile. Now that the air temp is 70 plus you cant keep it running. I just came back from town and air temp is 60 it never died.Oh yea BD told me to stop running 2 stroke and put power service. So when it would not hardly run I went to auto store and put 2 qts two stroke in and it ran all the way back and never died, that is when I parked it.

Up date on vp from h--- it took about one month for pump to go from dieing once in a while to dieing over 100 times in 10 mile could not take it any longer pull it in grage and ordered new pump. We will see how good BD is on there warranty, 5 months old. Oh and never threw a code. I will try to keep you up dated on what happen to it if BD will let me know.
