  1. 2nd gen 12v's are going for ridiculous prices these days. I've got the only 12v truck around here that I've seen, everything else is a 24v. I guess they're getting harder to come by. .
  2. Not a river, just a boggy a$$ slop hole.
  3. Yep, I'm in south Tx lol.
  4. There's another one out there stuck just as bad. Buddy buried them yesterday, we're heading out now to winch them out.
  5. 2 days is about how long it takes me on average, I don't have a helper though.
  6. I know what it is, I was just making a funny since mine is completely missing lol.
  7. What is this "cowl weatherstrip" you speak of?
  8. Aaron Watson rocks, seem him quite a few times.
  9. I've been thinking about it, I really have no idea what kind of business to start. I should have an AFM lifter job lined up soon, that's easy money.
  10. I was raised a Christian but Lord knows I haven't been the best representative of Him. Drinking, smoking, fighting, chasing girls, ect. I have always gone out of my way to help people though, be it replacing a turbo on a 7.3 at 3am, driving 4 hours to help a friend move, ect. The ADHD didn't help my decision making skills whatsoever, I know that for a fact. I also got REALLY angry with people, especially with smart *** bosses. I never beat up a boss but I did have some "words" with another mechanic out by the wash rack one time . We settled our differences and went on about our work, boss was fine with it too lol. Drinking + ADHD = getting banned from a few bars. It seems using some guy's face to scrub an asphalt parking lot is frowned upon, even if he pushed your girlfriend to the ground. I'm a MUCH calmer and level headed person these days. I'm definitely NOT going to try and force something to happen, I've learned that lesson.
  11. I'm in an aera were the majority of work is oilfield related, or at the very least oilfield influenced. If you manage to impress the right people at the right time you could end up like a close friend of mine, making over $80k+ a year AFTER taking a pay cut and losing all of his bonuses. My day will come, just not sure when. Here your either barely getting by, or rolling in dough. I just want to be able to pay my bills, have some nice things, and enjoy life.
  12. Sorry to hear about your truck man, that sucks. Finding a used engine will be your best option. There's no way I'd drop 10k on a STOCK engine rebuild.
  13. A couple nights ago I filled up for $1.29 a gallon, it's back up to $1.59 now. The lack of stability is why I got canned and have been unable to find steady work in a year. I moved from plant work where I was building air to air heat exchangers to being a mobile heavy equipment service tech. Got canned and replaced by my helper who was paid half of what I was making.Tried to go back to plant work but they had already started laying people off, my shop had dropped from 35 people to 8. Every place worth working for has laid people off and none have started hiring again. It sucks big time.
  14. It was replaced 3 years ago. I was I another town visiting a friend when the old one took a dump, Autozone was the only place that had one in stock. Obviously it wasn't a quality unit. Mine looks like the one you posted. For $62.80 shipped it could be hot pink with zebra stripes for all I care lol.
  15. I've got the opposite problem, I can't find any work.
  16. God forbid they let you talk to a tech for a couple of minutes, I hate dealing with places like that. I've seen seals set back a bit to clear a wear spot, though it's not ideal. A good center punch will keep the drill bit straight, even on a threaded shaft.
  17. Have you ever come across a thread were a bunch of grown men have resorted to picking each other apart via petty insults and put downs simply because someone doesn't agree with them? That my friend is internet purse swinging at it's finest.
  18. Most of the discussions here end up becoming a "think tank" of sorts. It just seems to be what happens when people are able to get together and share their thoughts and opinions without name calling, purse swinging, hurt feelings, or severe cases of sandy mangina that are found on some of the other forums.
  19. I've learned to embrace Walmart, somewhat. Being open 24 hours has saved my butt more than a few times so I can't complain too much. The people though......I....... um........
  20. You know that you can buy more than a gallon at a time right? It isn't 22 ammo, there's no limit on how many you can buy at a time
  21. That's the issue. Name brand parts that were great 5 years ago could be complete garbage now because of a change in suppliers.
  22. Welding can create enough heat to adversely affect the tempering of the steel, causing it to weaken. The holes only need to be deep enough for the tips of the set screws to rest in, ~1/16".
  23. Around here most of the pumps are labeled "may contain up to 5% bio". If it was a constant 5% bio everytime I filled up then I wouldn't worry about using 2-cycle oil. I seriously doubt we ever see anything other than straight ULSD around here though.
  24. I was reading up on 5th gear fixes while contemplating an auto to manual swap. The BEST way to fix it would be to replace the shaft with an updated unit like the Torque King, which was offered by Quad4x4. The problem though is that Quad4x4 no longer manufactures the Torque King and I was unable to find anything else like it. I've read the pros and cons of using a new nut with set screws. The issue (as far as I can tell) with using the nut and set screws is that no one ever dimples the shaft for the set screws. After the nut is torqued to spec, drill a small shallow hole (dimple) in the shaft through each set screw hole. What this does is allow the set screws to get a much better hold on the shaft by actually screwing IN to the shaft, rather than sitting on top of it. Transmissions can get expensive quick, I've got over $4k in my 47RE now. I'm not a rich man by any stretch of the imagination and trying to cough up that kind of money sucked, big time. The thing to remember is that you have to do it right, especially if you want more power later on. The money might hurt up front, but when your back on the road and everything is trouble free it will all be worth it.
