3. Tow mirrors are on. Oh how I've missed you, my friends!
4. you can use them on autos, but there's more to it than just bolting it on and going (or stopping, rather.)I don't know the specifics, off-hand, but it involves TCC lockup, etc.
5. My buddy and I were discussing this exact thing last night. He tows a lot and heavy, as well as runs a 12V pulling truck. Pulling truck is stupid mean, and tow rig is a modified, twin turbo 24v (both are 2gens.) He runs 16-1800* in his pulling truck. Towing, he regularly sees 14-1500*F pulling long grades, no issues thusfar. Is this a good practice for the average Joe? Doubtful. I asked about the 12-1300*F range under load for a minute or two, and he responded "wouldn't worry about it".. Food for thought.. Puller: TowRig:
6. Ok, guys.. I've tallied up the parts, and factored in some shipping. Looking at around $180 shipped, for these harness conversions. This will be 12-14g wire, fused, relayed, and bracketed. If you want the relays to be diode-equipped, then that'll be a couple more bucks. The diode-optioned relay is to protect EMF back-feed, but should not be an issue, unless you hook jumper cables up backwards. At that point, however, you'll have more to deal with than relays.
7. Welcome to the (huge, close-knit) family!I, too, am born/raised Texan. However, 11 yrs ago, I had a momentary lapse of sanity and moved to Virginia.. My wife is from this area, and now I'm stuck and can't get back to Texas LOLI grew up in southern Dallas & Ellis Co. (Lancaster, Red Oak, Ferris)
8. PERFECT! Apparently, making the heaters work is cake. Also, my 97 plugs are different No problemo, though. I'll make a crossover harness. Thanks for the link; that'll help a lot.
9. It's no different than the OE vacuum operation of actual engagement.
10. I've got the Posi-Lock on my '97 3500.. It has pros and cons..My "Pro" is 2LO functionalityMy "Con" is if you're stuck BEFORE you engage it, forget it. I couldn't get mine to engage when I got stuck in snow/ice slush this past winter.. I 'unstuck' the truck by just spinning through the slush until it hit paydirt... LOL once the truck started forward momentum, then I could engage the PosiLock..You know, once I was no longer stuck...
11. I've been wanting to build one for quite some time, just haven't done it yet. I've seen the oodles of youtube videos on them. Now, I just need to actually DO IT..

Rob, I'm wishing him a speedy recovery and minimal long-term affects.I had a mini-stroke on Easter morning, so I know, first-hand, the fear. I'm still dealing with stuff from that, as well as a pending surgery for an aneurysm in my left carotid artery.I wish your father well.Rick

14. Ok, so anyway, the bed I had was a great bed for it's purpose. If I towed for a living, then it would've been perfect, if that's all I did. But, I needed a truck bed for hauling things without a trailer, or having to tie/strap stuff down every time. The rust looked a helluva lot worse than it was. And that bed was freaking heavy.. The clearance between the overloads and the stops has increased by 2.25" with this bed on, versus the old bed. It was insanely heavy. The Western Hauler beds are overly built. The floor section has cross-beams of 2x2x.25 wall box tubing every 8 inches, from front to back.
15. thanks. I'll prolly order a set today. I ordered from AM AutoParts for my last truck, and I see they have the heated/power with brackets for $200 free shipping right now.. Since I swapped from my Western Hauler bed to the OE bed, I can no longer see beyond Dodge's fat hips
16. Guys,I need to order a set of tow mirrors. Last truck I had, was both power and heated factory mirrors, so the tow mirror choice was obvious..This '97 truck has power only (no heat). Are the plugs the same as the power/heated for the 2nd gen trucks? Is it difficult to add a heater circuit for the mirrors? Thanks,Rogan
17. ehh.. ya get used to it, after awhile..
18. understandable.. but it is still worth the $100 bill ;)
19. Yep, full galv. trailer with rollers, rather than skids.
20. Thanks. Yeah, to trip the relay, it takes very little current. And of course, the relay's amperage capability depends on which you use (30A, 40A, etc.)As a reference, an LED for a car alarm, takes about 200mA or less (2VDC).Additionally, in the above schematic, you can substitute a SPDT relay for a SPST (Single Pole Single Throw). The only difference between the two is that the SPST does not have the 87a pin.
21. here's a couple pics..Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
22. I think he said 600 something.. but it also had the bumper and reese hitch laying in the bed, along with a wood pallet. - - - Updated - - - any ideas as to where I could get the rubber hose to extend the fuel filler neck? I assume a radiator hose in unacceptable..
23. I don't really know what to say to that... LOL
24. thanks. yeah ive hated it since day one, so the OE bed is like having a new truck to me
25. Now I just need to get taillight harnesses and get the bumper on. JD7210 bucket scales showed 1360lbs wow!Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
