  1. I have a father in law like that. Honestly I am give a person a chance, but how many times can fate hand you a crappy card? At some point in time you have to be the cause.
  2. I must be really crazy. I have towing balls, a couple hoses, few clamps in the tool box. Inside the truck I have a pocket knife, a few screw drivers, a crescent wrench, and a pair of pliers. There are just too many break in's around here to risk it. Besides since most of my commute is urban I can have a tow truck pick me up in less than an hour, and my insurance will cover loading and up to 10 miles.
  3. Haha Colorado doesn't care about safety. The only "safety" rule that isn't a normal DOT law that I know of is the fact you cannot lower a vehicle till its unsafe for the emissions test or lift it with larger than 34" tires for the emissions test unless its a pre-1982 vehicle in which it would get an idle test anyway so it wouldn't matter.
  4. So once again it's time to register the truck and I have to take it to a shop and let them run the heck out of it while testing the opacity of my exhaust. It's a stupid once a year ritual that I have to go through because the People's Republic of Colorado says so, seriously this state is getting about as bad as California with the greenie crap. First off the Envirotest centers that test gasoline vehicles for $25 do not test diesels, so I am stuck paying anywhere from $60-$85 a year for a emissions test. Second it's a BS test. The techs are nice mind you, one year I forgot to turn the Edge down and the guy asked me if I wanted him to set it to 0 before conducting the test. So obviously the results are meaningless. On top of that I have always been told other than particulate matter and nitroarenes diesel exhaust emissions are a lot less than that of a gasoline engine. So why do I have to pay nearly 3 times as much for a test, every year when my gasser only has to get tested every two years at one third the cost? I am really getting sick of stupid politicians soaking me for my hard earned change. If that wasn't bad enough they raised the cost of registrations and are imposing steeper late fee's this year. It's supposed to go up again next year I hear too, ugh! Take a wild guess what party what our dear Governor belongs too. Seriously when will people wise up and realize that they are not spending this money effectively and don't need anymore. They want your vehicle in tip top shape so you don't pollute but by the time they are thru soaking you with fees (that's right, a fee it would be illegal to double tax you so we call it a fee) you can't afford to repair the vehicle. This year I paid nearly $400 in registration fees for my wife's compact car, $125 for my 1994 Dakota that was $42 the year before, and now $240 with emissions for the Ram. Yet next year that same pot hole will still be in the road on my way to work because "they don't have enough money to fix it!".Sorry but I think I covered the pot hole by now Governor Ritter! This state is just starting to irk me really bad, they are scamming me for money left and right! :bang: :2cents:I guess on a more positive note if I am handing over money for an emissions test I would rather give it to a small independent shop that can use it rather than handing it over to a state that obviously cannot balance their checkbook.*end rant* lol
  5. Lol that's a good one
  6. Well those guys are going to get put on the spot! In all seriousness though I have heard a ton of stories which are repeat urban legends. Give those guys and ear full when you get back to work.

  8. The cat chasing the bear was awesome. I doubt many people have the guts (or the stupidity) to try that stunt lol.
  9. "We just ran outside, and that's when we saw the truck in the house. So, I just ran right into the front door because I didn't know if Sue was in her bedroom""I just grabbed her. Then, they told us to hurry up and get out because it was leaking gas." I am assuming the way it was written they are talking about the truck. The fact that TV Shows and the media make motor vehicle fuels out to be so volatile probably causes more property loss and injury than the accidents them self. If the truck is leaking fuel then turn it off. Explosions with cars are rare, especially diesels. I think I would be far more worried about the safety of the structure than a bit of leaking diesel fuel.
  10. I just went through this even though the previous owner had replaced the batteries before. My alternator blew on the highway and the batteries ended up giving in that winter. This set is getting extra good care so they last me awhile.
  11. Merry Christmas everyone! Going to be a white Christmas in the Rockies this year!
  12. Well the core of the Macintosh 10 and later operating systems is open source as of yet. They are running BSD based code on top of the GNU Mach Microkernel. Which sounds great when it comes to porting the operating system to different hardware but anyone with a decent amount of knowledge about the Mach Microkernel could use its security flaws to exploit the kernel level routines. In layman terms this means that things can be done to the computer that would otherwise not be allowed in a traditional operating system. Windows 7 is aiming to improve security by a long shot and I really applaud Microsoft for putting a lot more R&D toward protecting their customers security. Just like life though you are safest if you use common sense. A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to computers. Out of the computers I have cleaned up I have found the majority of them to have been infected via downloads on Limewire, Frostwire, Kazaa, Bittorrent, etc. People typically are trying to get music or a paid program for free when the computer becomes infected. However after you clean it all up they commit the same acts re-infecting the computer and blame you for not cleaning it well enough. My advice to anyone with a Windows based computer is to run automatic updates, keep a good antivirus program, and DO NOT open email attachments or illegally download.
  13. From a scientific standpoint computer viruses are interesting to study, however from a computer user standpoint they are very annoying. Half the time they aren't even true viruses but a spyware program dedicated to annoying the end user into purchasing false products. I really think these people need to be in jail.
  14. My 24-valve still has the factory lift plate on it. It almost like they intended you to pluck it out at some time or other.
  15. Well a little bit of everywhere. I was born in Nebraska, grew up in Iowa, spent my teenage years in Kansas, and later migrated to Colorado. If I didn't have so many bills I would sneak out of this city and head back to the country. There is just way to many "rules" in the city.
  16. I run Valvoline Premium Blue unless the store is out then I will grab Delo, Rotella, etc...Rotella does smell awful, I hate to run it because I can smell it creeping up around the cab from the breather tube. My truck doesn't make any noises in the winter running the Vavoline, so I am assuming it has very good cold properties. My gasser on the other hand gets Valvoline Premium Synthetic 5W-30 because it does make some nasty noises when it gets really cold, unless it has the synthetic in the crankcase.
  17. Like he shows in the video there is a good chance that the grid heaters are keeping your air intake temperature too high to enable the high idle. Build one of Mopar1973Man's foolers and you can enable it when you feel like.**edit - Looks like Mopar1973Man beat me too it lol
  18. 230k miles and still going strong.
  19. I noticed this deal at the local Home Depot, there is also the same deal at Lowes but more on that later. $399 Husky Air Compressor http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardware-Air-Compressors-Tools-Accessories/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xr5Zb8mr/R-100083906/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 Its a single stage 240volts, 15amp unit with a running 3.2hp motor (5hp peak), 1070rpm pump speed, and flows 10.2scfm @ 90psi / 11.5scfm @ 40psi. Best of all is the price of the unit. I figure for this price its probably going to be fairly loud but thats nothing an air compressor cabinet can't fix. I plan to use it mostly for impact wrenches, air ratchets, and air hammers. However later I might want to do some panel painting. My father owns a 33 gal 6hp Craftsman (2hp running) oil less compressor. It works but its extremely loud and I think they inflated the 6scfm rating, also it cost about the same as this unit. Seems like it would be hard to argue with the flow of this unit for the price. Most of the tools I plan to run require in the range of 4-6 scfm but I would like room to grow without spending too much. I would love to have an two stage but at this point I just can't afford it, besides its more of a want than a need. What do you guys think?
  20. The Little Ice Age is a good topic to bring up with global warming folks. It ended in the 1800's and lasted for the 300 years. So given that it lasted from approx the 1500's to the 1800's we should be reaching the summit of natural global warming around 2100. Then tapering off to more "normal" climate conditions. Either way I do not believe that the United States should ever involve itself in foreign affairs, our founding fathers warned us about this. So if this about the Copenhagen Treaty I say no. If there is a real problem we will handle it our own way, not the way the world wants us to do it.
  21. Have you checked the truck with an ODBII scanner because I don't believe that the 99's did the key trick if I am not mistaken. Also what is the fuel pressure at?Beyond that I am going to say that if the problem is only present when warm it would be best to see what is going on with a scan tool so you can see the temperature sensor readings. There is always that possibility of a dead VP44 but I wouldn't jump to that until we see exactly what is going on.
  22. Yep. I went with the AirDog 150 and have been happy with it.
  23. The Mitusa pump does look nice until you read that it still requires factory style lift pump to provide cranking pressures. I am assuming the starter doesn't spin everything fast enough to create the necessary cranking pressures.
  24. Well my truck is already a 4wd. I just have to remove the tires from the rear. Probably swap out the wheel studs and remove the spacers. The bed has been repaired from the past and is pretty beat on the inside since after all the truck has well over 200k. The duals are really nice for stability when towing, but driving around in snow and ice they are horrible for traction.
  25. After reading some information from edcasey on CF and seeing this post from another site from him http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=303816&postcount=4 I am really starting to think about converting my truck. I had originally planned to purchase a 3/4 ton but I found this 3500 for a decent price in fairly good shape with every option I wanted, except the dual rear wheels. It not that the truck is hard to maneuver or anything but I am sure it would improve the ride, provide better off-road and winter weather traction, and be two less tires to replace. Doesn't seem that its that hard to do and according to edcasey the dually axle is hardly noticeable. What do you guys think? Here is the truck as it sits now.
