3rd gen brake upgrade
@hdpwipmonkey did the drive to seat in the pads like instructions said. Thats really no different than what i always do for brakes. Did not bleed system because i didn't open any lines. All my calipers are good so i kept them.

Found 2 horns off a semi recently. Already had 1 horn behind front bumper and only place i could find for these was behind the rear bumper. Not really where i wanted to put them but they fit and its loud.

3rd gen brake upgrade
Had some time off work and did a couple side jobs. Used some of the money for the 3rd gen brake swap. Ordered the caliper mounting brackets from Carid.com a couple months ago for about $100 for all 4. I got the Powerstop Z36 brake kit from Morris4x4center.com for $491.44 after a $30 coupon. Coupon covered taxes. Best prices i could find. So about $600 total for pads, rotors, and brackets. Ordered the brakes from Morris4x4 noon on Sunday and had them here at 1:20pm today, Wednesday. Every fit great, took about 1 1/2 hours to do all 4 on a jack. Did the seat in drive. Hope they help stop this pig better. Go back to work tomorrow so guess I'll find out soon enough.

I Want Easy Brake Bleed.....
I use the gravity bleed method followed with a helper depressing the pedal for a pressure bleed. When flushing fluid i will extract the fluid from the master cylinder with a big syringe and fill it with new fluid. Less time spent to get clean fluid through the system. Usually do this every other year or when i have the lines or hoses off for something else.

in cab wiring
I got both door harnesses, inside fuse box, harness that runs across inside of firewall, wiring to overhead console and few other little parts from Pull a Part for around $50. My truck was manual everything and I changed it to power everything. I'm using those parts to clean up my hack job wiring mess.

The crf450ish random question thread.
Like @dave110 said, I always do a final bleed by depressing the pedal and opening the bleeder but gravity bleeding will help reduce creating air bubbles by pumping the pedal a lot. I have a helper push and hold the pedal, not pump it. Open bleeder then when it hits the floor, tighten bleeder, let off pedal, repeat as necessary. Usually 2 times per bleeder and its good to go.

The crf450ish random question thread.
@crf450ish try gravity bleeding. Leave cap off master cylinder and fill up completely. Go right rear, left rear, right front, left front pattern. Open RR bleeder, put drain pan under it and let it drip. Let it empty the MC to about 3/4 empty. Close bleeder, fill MC and repeat in above pattern. After all 4 wheels are done go to RR, open bleeder and have helper slowly press pedal to floor and close bleeder. Repeat in above pattern. This has worked great for difficult to bleed systems for me in the past. Also good way to flush out old fluid.

Getting rid of the rust
@beren thank you. Just start looking around for sheet metal and talk to local painters. I got lucky when i found the bed. $200, 20 minutes from home 1 owner truck that had an engine fire. Everything else had been sold already. Got 2 fenders and driver front door when we went on vacation to Florida, $200. Went to buy my Hummer wheels and the guy had a driver rear door for $100. Tailgate was $50 from Pull-A-Part. $1700 to paint all the loose parts, including my tonneau cover. Paid $2300 for the truck, have $2250 in paint and body that was spread out over 2 years. Still need to patch driver floor, i can do that, and front of rockers. They are white duct tape right now.

Installed the quad today
2 old racer tricks for making intercooler hoses stay on: 1) Spray hair spray on tube and inside boot, put together wet. 2) Liquid dish soap such as Dawn. Wipe on tubes and inside hose, put on wet. Be warned: after the hair spray or dish soap dries it can be nearly impossible to remove the hoses. May have to cut them off. Both tricks will work extremely well just be sure you don't have to take them apart any time soon. We would do this on the hard to reach hoses and leave 1 or 2 hoses dry for easy disassembly for maintenance. Built over 100psi on accident. Burned through 2 cylinders but all hoses stayed on.

Getting rid of the rust
Never thought to try a pressure washer, but after all the sanding, buffing and hand waxing the whole damned truck i don't think i would have wanted to get it wet again. Have some spare handles i'll try that on.

Getting rid of the rust
Got a bit sloppy with the compound and got it on my driver door handle pretty bad. This stuff is hard to remove from black plastic and makes it look really bad. A really easy way to get it clean is an eraser. Big pink eraser. Took less than 5 minutes to clean. I didn't use anything else on this. Trim around tailgate handle is new but handle is original. Eraser also works well for wax residue. Even shined up the paint spot thats been on the handle since i got the truck.

@hdpwipmonkey did you use factory rotors or the drilled and slotted?

3rd gen brake upgrade
Its time to start looking for pads and rotors, front and rear, for my brake upgrade. I usually use ceramic pads from NAPA, lots of Adaptive One stuff and their premium rotors but I've been looking more for this project. Has anyone used Power Stop Evolution pads and rotors on their truck? If so which ones and would you use them again? Any other recommendations for good stopping power, brake fade, noise?
