  1. I really like my sport housing with a brite box. I have the plugs to make another box if you want them we can work something out. You cant run hi power bulbs in a sport with a brite box (high and lo on when high is selected) as too much heat is created. They do almost as well as the projector lights in my wifes 4runner and look snazzy in the 2nd gen.
  2. Looks fun to me! I love hot rodding. Where did you get the sport bumper? Lmc?
  3. 70k on ours, new clutch too. I hate it, but it won't die.
  4. If we just gauge utility, our trucks are very similar to the new ones. But then again, my 96 saturn is reliable, clean, and gets great mileage. Yet it is worth 1200 bucks.
  5. It is sad that our trucks are worth this much too. If the EPA, cash for clunkers, and the rest of the government would stop meddling, we would all be retiring our 2nd gens and buying 4th gens at relatively similar cost to an original 2nd gen. The thing to remember is that insurance isn't replacement insurance. They are insuring the value of your investment, which is depreciating as you drive it and as years go by.
  6. The fact is that its an old truck. If it was worth more, he should have kept it and negotiated with insurance to repair or part out. In some cases you can buy a totaled vehicle back. If he wanted more for the truck he should have paid for a declared value insurance, but that is more expensive. Old trucks just arent valued at replacement value without a declared value insurance like i use on my classic cars.
  7. Hows the new one compared to the old one?
  8. Vulcan has always been good to me. I always look there first to see of they have what I need. I liked my 275s. For a stock turbo they are great.
  9. Welcome! Nice truck!
  10. My 2000 had this issue for 3 years. It worked fine. The pedal has a bit of a "kick" to it when you first apply it. In the summer it would overheat and puke fluid everywhere, but once warmed up it was fine. I thought I had old fluid so decided I would just refil it and let it purge itself. Strangely, it never worked. Thankfully, I am no longer using such archaic maintenance practices. Flushing it and refilling with synthetic fluid didn't fix it either. I want to fix my 02. I read that it isn't the pump, its the hydroboost system. Somewhere in there, it has a sick seal that I popped by standing on the brakes too hard during ABS operation. It seems to take fluid from the high pressure side and shoot it back to the low pressure side while restricting the flow from the pump inside the hydroboost. Practical testing will prove if this is truth or not. I bought a seal kit for 23 bucks, as the only hydroboost units I found were like $500-700. Pirate Jack I think was the vendor. I plan on doing it sometime in February if you want in on the party.
  11. Best design would be an engine driven pump pushing fuel to an in tank jet pump that would push 18psi of fuel to the engine. It would also need a booster pump to prime the system from a separate in tank sump. However, the amount of work required would be excessive. I just bought a fass.
  12. Just check with weather and turn the switch the night before. It doesn't have to be too complicated. The truck shouldn't completely die off of idle to 3cyl unless you have injector problems. If it doesn't make it into 3cyl due to cold (mine does at times) it will just revert to normal idle for 1 more minute as the 3cyl allows the rpm to sag. The software is cummins, and they did a good job. Besides, I would be more concerned with not allowing the truck to heat up the grids (wait to start) using a remote start.
  13. The multimeter is good. If you are just doing basic stuff like tracing wires and whatnot, you will also want the wiring diagrams we have here in this linked section... https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/electrical/ You will also want a basic understanding of what relays do. Here is some good reference for the relays... http://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/relay-guide.html What Me78569 says is correct, but I also add in one more laziness step... I check fuses and swap relays from something I know is working to the problem circuit. If you are looking into the CCD system or some of the actual digital communication between the ECM, PCM, or VP44 computer... thats a little more complicated and out of my realm.
  14. I have done axle swaps, but not to change the hubs. I would recommend our part lookup tool in the articles, it should show the axle differences and parts needed if you don't want to swap the axles. When I did my rear, the OEM style U bolts weren't available. I upgraded to one step larger from 1/2 to 9/16. I don't recommend re-using U bolts even if they aren't rusted to junk.
  15. Tough call... Do you have to drive the 6.7 right now? I am going through some interesting financial times and I can say I am thankful I saved over the past decade. If I had to drive it, and could afford it the injectors would get changed. I would much rather pay for injectors than injectors AND a rebuild.
  16. This is why The Walking Dead was set in Atlanta. If it had been set in North Dakota, it would have been quite different. "I can't believe old farmer Noordquist was so fresh! But once I lit him up with the cattle prod, he quieted right down! He has been actin kinda strange this winter since Mrs Noordquist died... but you know since that accident in siventy-too, and you know with all those big royalty checks coming in... I guess he is entitled to act a bit strange." And that would be the end of the outbreak.
  17. City people. Farm kids are like, well, i had to get up and do xyz chores anyway... might as well go to school and see my friends.
  18. I NEVER saw that in NoDak when I worked up there. Hell, I would have stayed and gone native if that were the case.
  19. Good lookin truck.
  20. The guy probably has it coming.
  21. Feel free to send winter down this way. I can't imagine living up there year round like the folks did in the late 1800s to 1960s. Wooden shack... horse drawn equipment... full blown farm... yikes.
  22. I like old engineers. If he keeps talking... you can offer for him to reach me here and i can see if he wants to write up some articles... a nerd and historical section could be fun.
  23. I am glad thinks are improving, Mike!
  24. Yes. But cpp sells a lot of engines and cummins has the parts as well. You can try dodge as well. I bet dodge and cummins come in the highest. If you want cheap, you could call the local engine builders as most i know seem to have 3rd gen motors being rebuilt or junked from washed cylinders.
