2. I found this place online.http://custombatterycables.com/application/dodge_ram.htm
3. Congrats. Cab change will be easy, lining the sheetmetal up will suck. Clean the underside of the new cab first and hit it with lizardskin, followed by spray-on bedliner.
4. Got a replacement key, had to remove the old one with a dremelTruck now starts instantly. Mileage is 25 driving back and forth to work. Now to find and correct the cause of the OBDII readout not working
5. VP44 is way out of time, my faulthttp://forum.mopar1973man.com/images/smilies/mad0137.gif. Key is too buggered to reuse. Have to get another Monday
6. Found part of the problem http://forum.mopar1973man.com/images/smilies/doh.gif
7. Hard Start Cold started after replacing the VP44. I had the injector change planned; I didn't feel like messing with it.Right now I have all connections covered in baby powder, will check them in the morning. As far as parking the truck uphill or downhill; my property is pretty flat. I will rearrange the spoils pile from my shop build tis weekend to create a parking ramp to test it that way
8. Got back from vacation, had local shop install new injectors (RV 275 Bosch) and they replaced the return line check valve. We will see how t starts in the morning
9. Second rattlesnake in 2 years crossing the same spot in the driveway. Personnel Defense round from the Judge
10. Hello John, To help me make the best diagnosis, please answer the following questions. Did the engine start hard, or this hard before you installed our pump? What color is the smoke on start - up? Is it smokey after starting before you press the accelerator pedal or after? Where is the clear line attached, specifically between what components of the fuel system? Have you tried starting it without the electric lift pump connected electrically, and is it better or worse when you do that? Have you checked the voltage on pin#5 ( blue wire with a red tracer) on the big plug on the injection pump for voltage when cranking? If not, please do so and report the findings. Does the starting time change if the front of the truck is facing up hill or down hill? This needs to be a fairly steep incline, but it is a valuable diagnostiaid. I await your reply, Chip Fishe
11. Chip just replied to my email. I have some Troubleshooting to do.Every line has been retorqued. I removed 1,2 and 4 so that I had good access to 3 5 and six lines on the IP manifold.I was very carefu installing the pump, it drew up nicely when tightening
12. Since installing the new IP.;1 week ag0. Redid all mechanical connections Sunday. No change this morning
13. New Blue Chip VP-44New Mopar ECM with Mopar flashNew Raptor 150 with line kitGlacier Big Line kitNew Fuel FilterISSPRO Fuel Pressure with Ashcorft ss snubber (Mounted on the canister)No Codes (With Reader)Fuel Pressure 18 PSI Idle, 16-17 WOTIn the morning, it takes 45 seconds to over a minute of cranking to fire; once it does (with ALOT of smoke) it immediately settles down to a smooth consistent idle. The longer the truck sits, the longer it takes to crank.I have the clear 3/8" line hooked to it now with zero signs of air leakage. It still exhibits the symptoms above --- Update to the previous post...
14. I use that seasoning for my pork-butts cooked on the Big Green Egg, good stuff!
15. I know my heavy 19.5's are dragging my milage down, but what else works?
16. I bought my Raptor 150 from Glacier Diesel Products. Thay have always treated me fairly
17. Truck is running great; except for starting due to the air leak. Milage has gone from 18.9-19.1 up to 21.7 to 22.0
18. 1.5 hours shop rate ; out of the shop in 2.5 hours. Lift pump is functioning normally. Still chase down an air leak
19. Ok I am at the dealership this morning getting the new ECM installed and flashed. Let's hope this solves the LP start time issue; all troubleshooting points this way
20. Ok, last weekend was too dang hot! Today was overcast and in the low 90's.Got the pump changed out in about 5 hours, changed the fuel filter and bled the system. Got the truck started and took it for a test run. Ran good, good throttle response good sounding idle good fuel pressure. Came home and let it cool down; went to start and when it does, it runs "feebly/weak" for about 30 seconds and then regains the "normal" strong idle. :mad:My gut feel is I have a leak somewhere. I will pick up some clear tubing Monday and due the "loop test", Should be pretty simple since I have the big line kit already nstalled
21. BLUE CHIP SPECIAL X VP44 PUMPWe at Blue Chip are now well known for this pump. It works, as proven by our testimonials and the many comments on the forums. We always try to give our customers more bang for their buck, without lowering our quality or dependability. In this case we found a way to get better fuel mileage and a little more power on some trucks. This pump has ALL the upgrades and improvements that our exact replacement units have. This pump works on all 1998 ½ through 2002 Dodge Diesel trucks EXCEPT those with "HO" engines that were in SOME 2000 and SOME 2001 and all 2002 trucks. All "HO" engines have a six speed manual transmission. This means if you have a 2000 or 2001 truck with a six speed manual transmission AND the 8th digit in the VIN is a 7, or your truck is a 2002 six speed manual transmission, this pump will NOT work. It DOES work on ALL Dodge automatic and 5 speed manual transmission equipped trucks that have a VP44 injection pump! What we did to achieve this goal was to mix and match parts from other VP44 pumps to advance the timing mechanically and optimize fueling rates for better mileage. Yes this does modify the emissions, but not to the extent that the engine will smoke and attract attention from the tree huggers. After installation you can hear the timing difference especially at an idle. You will hear more of a crackle to the engine which is an indication of the timing advance. The Special X pump is made from all Bosch made parts. It does not have any aftermarket or modified parts in it, so this allows us to sell it with the Bosch 1 year unlimited mileage warranty. The Special X is NOT what is commonly called a HOT ROD pump. A HOT ROD pump is modified to put out the most fuel for the most power and the worst fuel mileage. It is the total opposite of a Special X. To make a HOT ROD pump many internal parts have to be modified by aftermarket vendors and therefore do NOT have ALL Bosch OEM parts in them, so they typically are less dependable and therefore do NOT come with a warranty. What we do to these pumps gives typically between 2-3 more miles per gallon. We measured 22 more horsepower at the rear wheels on a Mustang dynamometer on our 2000 Dodge with everything stock on it. The Special X also lowers exhaust temperatures and enhances throttle response, so it is a win win situation. The only thing that happens occasionally is if a customer has, or later installs really big injectors such as over 100 HP rated, the idle will roll like a gas engine with a big cam. This doesn’t hurt anything but we want you to know this before you buy a Special X. If you are presently or plan on advancing the timing with an electronic plug in device or programmer don’t buy this pump as we are only doing mechanically what those products do electronically. We do it cheaper. It will not give you another additional MPG increase when used with these products. We do know the Special X with its various internal modifications effects emissions, so if you are concerned about that, please don’t buy this pump. That is why it works though! The Special X pumps do cost $300.00 more because we have to put $300.00 more NEW parts in each one. We feel this is cost effective when considering the cost of fuel these days. Apparently our customers do too, as this pump is our best seller! These pumps are now offered with either a NEW or USED Upgraded computer on them. Obviously the ones with a new computer will last longer than the ones that have a used one. We give you this choice to save money on the purchase price or avail yourself of the longest lasting pump you can buy, whichever you prefer.
22. New Blue Chip X, Marine Injectors and a valve adjustment, with a new filter thrown in for good measure:cool:
