  1. That's a stock diff in my truck with 4.10. The way your truck is set with 285 tires and a 3.55 diff the effective gear ratio is 3.42. If you were to go down in size to a 245 tire the effective gear ratio would change to 3.69 where you would gain some better pulling power keep, decent fuel milage and help lower exhaust temps going uphill without down shifting, plus is cheaper than changing ring and pion gears.

  3. It may be possible but is it manageable? Someone with a manual transmission will chime in. If you need to drain the new fluid buy a new oil drain container and use it exclusively for transmission oil. I do this for my auto transmission when I need to do internal work like on the valve body or adjust the rear band. I wrote on the side of the container "ATF ONLY".
  4. Ohm test the wires from the PCM to the transmission speed sensor for open circuit and check the connectors for corrosion/poor contact.
  5. It's not supposed to be grounded. That test is to see if the wire is shorted to ground.

  7. Did you run all the tests outlined above? That will tell you what to look for and what part of the circuit it is on.
  8. Testing terminals for trailer tow relay in the PDC. Tools needed: a Jumper wire and test light. Is there 12V at terminal #30? if no check fuse #8 in the PDC. Is there 12v at terminal #86 with the headlight switch in the on position? If no check the headlight switch. Is terminal #85 grounded? With test light prob in terminal #85 and clamp end on positive post of battery is the light illuminated? If no check ground G102. Jumper Terminals #30 and #87 with 16-12 AGW jumper wire. Does the black/orange wire at the 7-pin trailer connector have 12V? If no, then there is an open circuit (poor contact or broken wire) somewhere between the PDC and 7- pin trailer connector. All testing can be done with ignition switch in off position.

  10. Check pin #87 of the trailer tow relay in the PDC, that is where the wire ends. Power for it comes from 40A fuse #8 in the PDC to terminal #30 of the trailer tow relay. Power from the headlight switch goes to terminal #86 and terminal #85 is ground.

  12. Have you connected all the ground wires that are attached to the end of this cable and grounded them to the timing case and added the ground from the case to the driver side battery? If yes, then leave it unplugged. If no, then plug it in to the right battery until you've done this step of the ground modification.

  14. I'm running the stock alternator. I use a Blue Sea Systems 5005 ANL fuse block with an ANL type fuse, but the AMI/MIDI type fuse will work also. I've done 4 trucks using this fuse setup.
  15. I use a Blue Sea 150A fuse with the extra fuses you get in the glove box with the other spare fuses. I've never had to replace one. The reason I chose a fuse over a breaker was: the truck's stock alternator fuse is 140A and how often have you had to replace it, never? An electrical breaker is mechanical and can fail. If the alternator has an internal short, then resetting a breaker or installing a new fuse is no going to help.
  16. You can use the power wire that went to the original lift pump to control the FASS relay, review the article for protective lift pump relay. Remove and discard the wire at the FASS relay terminal that comes from the ignition switch and attach the power wire from the ECM for the lift pump to the that relay terminal. This will give on/off control to the ECM and will turn off the lift pump any time the engine stops. This set up will also turn the pump on for five seconds when the key is first turned on and twenty seconds when the engine starter is "bumped". The coil in the relay has enough resistance so no code is set for a disconnected lift pump.
  17. Is the fuel pump on any time the ignition key is in the on position? If in an accident what signals the fuel pump to turn off mitigating a potential fire?
  18. You can leave the old pump on; it's not hurting anything unless it gets in the way. The old filter housing can be an extra filter, but it also serves as a water separator and a fuel heater for those cold northern winters.

  20. Start with the ground mod then retest for AC voltage. When testing for AC voltage the engine should be warmed up and all unnecessary lights and accessories are off.
  21. I've done a few rear wheel bearings over the years. They're easy to check; jack up the rear axle put jack stans under the axle and chock (block) the front wheels. With a helper start the truck and shift into 1st or 2ed gear. With a mechanics stethoscope or a long screwdriver listen at the axle just behind the rear brake backing plate on both sides and compare the sound.
