Auto High Idle?
My '04.5 had the "high idle"enabled from the factory. Does it automagically. I cannot do via the cruise control. When it's cold here, I only idle Mighty Whitey long enough to back out of the garage, close the garage, and hitch up my work trailer. Usually well under 5 minutes unless I forgot something in the house!!! Then I just drive easy until I get out of the neighborhood. Almost 8 years and 162,xxx and all's well!!

Auto High Idle?
But it's a "dry" cold!! Anyone can like 75* and sunny. It takes a special kind of idiot to like the other extreme!!!

Wood Pile Pix
Come on Marble, what's this "North Texas" stuff????? Where are you at................Wichita Falls, Denison, DFW, Texarkana???? You're not "North Texas" unless you live in the panhandle...........like I did in the late '80's. Amarillo gets snow, Wichita Falls gets ice, and DFW gets rain. I don't mind the snow by the way. Better than muddy, damp, windy, cold, miserable early Spring weather!!!!

So I Had Some Time
Hex, the chainsaw I've been using forever now it seems; my Dad bought back in the late '70's. It's a McCullock ProMac 610 with a 28" bar. With a sharp chain, it'll almost pull you over what you're cutting!! If anything, I need a smaller saw to be a bit more efficient. That big saw I have is great, but it's big and heavy and not suited for clearing limbs off fells so you can cut them up.I guess I am afflicted.............I'm already saying I need another saw!!!!:banghead: You got me!!!!

So I Had Some Time
Thanks for the links Hex. That guy is almost as good as I am!!!! He's a machine......actually better than a machine!!!! What's a CAD??!!!! Yeah, I figured it was a face, maybe face and a half. What I don't have pix of is the wood in my shed that I didn't burn in the POS fireplace unit in my house this winter, and the cord+ of wood in my back yard already split. I know I'll need more. Lot's of wood around here. In fact a bud of mine got me access to a place not far from me. I can cut and haul all I want/need. All the guy wants is for me to sign a waiver of liability. Good deal IMHO!!!

Import Hub Report
Why not just install a "free spin" hub kit from DynaTrac or SpynTech et al??? You've done it enough to be good at it now and spent a lot of money on crap.

Milestone
Update.......as of today, Mighty Whitey is at 161,4xx miles. On my most recent trip to SEMO this past weekend, I got right at 19mpg on both tanks of fuel. That's bucking a headwind going down and coming home running about 68mph or 2000rpm.

So I Had Some Time
Mike, after watching your video, all I can say is I'm glad you had your britches on!!!! You looked like a rabbit humping your splitter!!!!!! Sorry!!!!Anyhow, on a serious note, you're still a "pup" to me Mike!!! I'll be 48 in a couple months. I actually enjoy splitting wood. It's relaxing for me. I just pretend that what I'm striking is the current occupant of the house in DC!!!:wow:On another serious note, the "Fiskars splitting axe" is awesome. It's really light weight, and the rounds under about 12-14 inches break open with one hit usually. The larger rounds I break once, maybe twice with the wedges, and then go to town around them with the Fiskars. The Fiskars I have is the X25. It has I think a 30" handle. They make an X27 with a 36" handle also. This little bad boy is incredible.

So I Had Some Time
to kill today, and here's what I did. Didn't get it all split, as it started raining and I thought I take a few pix for y'all. Should've taken a before picture while they were still in the rounds. Still have a couple more to go as you can see. All hand split with a couple wedges and my Fiskars X25. Took about 3 hours.I cut it yesterday and hauled it to the house. It was only about a block away, so it went fast......about 2.5 hours, as I had to clear a bit of brush to get at this ash tree that fell in the wind storm last summer.Anyhow, right now I'm enjoying a cold one. Here's the pix.......

Why monitor boost?
Don't know why I never bothered to check this thread out; but WOW!!! Mr. Flynn has just told the world how I get the mileage I do out of my '04.5!!!! Many folks take it as a "given" that the '04.5+ Dodge/Cummins get poor mileage. They don't if you know how to drive them. Years ago, that's how the truckers did it. Drive by the boost gauge. It's smarter than you are........as long as it's working properly!!! On my '04.5, I use the boost gauge and the RP (rail pressure) gauge to determine what speed I drive at. I'm a cheap buttocks, and anything I can do to get me more mileage out of a tank of fuel, I'll usually do. On trips I always leave early to give me plenty of time to get there...........if on a time frame. That way I don't have to go from a comfortable 68mph/2000rpm cruise; to a "white knuckle" 75-80mph slalom drive weaving in and out of traffic just to get there on time!!! I don't give a rats "dupa" if everyone on the road passes me. I had a cop tail gate me once on a "two lane". He couldn't pass me because of the on coming traffic for about 10-12 miles. I was doing 60 in the 55mph, and he was so close, that I couldn't see his headlights in my rear view mirror. Anyhow; he found a spot to pass, and as he did, he paused along side of me and made a gesture to "pick up the pace". I gave him the "middle finger" and he buzzed off ahead of me. Go figure!!??? Nothing came of it. Had our situations been reversed; minus the hand gesture, I've no doubt I would've been pulled over.

Thanks for the pix Mike!!! The stoves I'm looking at look a fair bit different than yours. I'll see if I can get some pix or links for y'all!!! Thanks again!!

No charge at first start
100% normal. The alternator has to replenish the "juice" from you starting your "Cummins" up!!! That's all. It shouldn't take too long. As long as she comes back up in short order, you've nothing to worry about!!!!! IMHO anyway!!!! Later!!!

Wood Stove Guys..............Come Here, Please
All of the stoves I've listed are EPA approved, non-catalyst stoves. Wasn't clear on that prior.I've got a small house, so I cannot do a wood furnace. The room I'm putting it in is about 19x15'. and my house is a small ranch (1100sq.ft.). Not a real "open design" either, that's why I asked about stove size. I'd like to be in the room with the stove and not be forced out because it's too hot in the room.

Wood Stove Guys..............Come Here, Please
Guys, once the weather breaks here, I'm gonna tear out the "zero clearance" or "pre-fab" metal box type fireplace in my house. My plans are it put a wood stove in its place. I've done the research and such on doing this. It involves taking the current fireplace chase (which is in the garage) totally out, as well as the existing fireplace chimney. I had though about using the existing chase in the garage, but it's actually gonna cost more in the long run because I'll need numerous double wall chimney pipe bends.........30* ones to follow the existing chase..............$$$$$$$So what I plan on doing, and this could change, is close up the wall where the fireplace was, frame it up, insulate it and put cement board in it's place so I can do some sort of tile or stone heat deflector behind where the stove will be. For the floor; and this depends on the stove you get, I place on building my own hearth out of layers of durock(cement board), and Micore 300(insulative product), with tile or stone over. Sound Kosher guys???:pray:As of now, I'm leaning towards these stoves.................Jotul F3CB, Jotul F400 Castine, Pacific Energy Alderlea T4, and Morso 2110. Is it better to "go bigger" than you think you need??? The wood I get around here, is usually "gnarly" and not real straight, so a tiny firebox would be a pain. But then again, I don't want to have the stove heat the stove room at 85*+ either. I'm scrounging up wood now as I type this, because these new EPA stoves require very dry seasoned wood to perform properly. I've scrounged up about a cord so far, and have about 1/2 cord in my shed, because I was concerned about using the POS fireplace this year. I've got a neighbor down the street that said I could get the rest of the trees in his yard........about another 2 cords.................it's ash, but it's free!!!:thumbup2:Any insite is appreciated!!!

Check your man card here.
As far as "man cards" go.........this is a serious violation!!! How many points should this be worth guys????? I'd say it's about 5, maybe 6 points worth violation. You're allowed a maximum of 10 points before you have to turn in your "man card". You by chance don't wax or shave any part of your body other than your face: do you??!! If so, that's an automatic suspension and possible permanent revocation of the "man card", depending on how many areas are affected!!!! It's stuff like this that is leading to the "pussification of America"!!!
