Smarty settings
Have you added any "lead" to your right foot since you downloaded your Smarty??? It's real easy to get a negative first impression from the Smarty after you feel the improved "throttle response" and "low end power"!!!!!!! I have the Smarty Revo. I run default settings on SW5. Works for me. Even with winter fuel I've averaged 18-19mpg running to a fro from Missouri last month.Check to see if your Smarty didn't come with a "Frankenstein" right foot weight that you never intended to install!!! Hehehe!!

2 Stroke and the Common Rail
If you buy your fuel from a place that sells and goes thru a fair bit of diesel; IMHO, you should never have a problem with water in your fuel. However; if you don't drive your truck a lot, you have a greater risk of "water in fuel" from condensation in the fuel tank. And then what AH64ID told you is correct!!

Allison RE545 transmission as option???
It wasn't an Allison..............I'm almost positive it was an "Aisin" transmission to which you're refering.

Caution Sign
That is so perfect!!!! However; I still don't think it'll get the point across to a fair number of idiots in our society today!!!!!

Christmas In March
I picked up my wood stove today from the trucking depot. Heavy mofo!!! Sadly, it's gonna be relegated to the garage; where you see it in the pix, until I get my hearth built. After that I can set it on the hearth and do the chimney thing. But before all that, I gotta tear out the old fireplace unit and reframe and close up the wall it was in.Some pix of the stove.

looking for milage help on an 06 cummins
Agree 100%. What usually melts on the '04.5-'07 trucks is the pistons due to the narrower injector spray angle, the increased duration, mild pressure increase and different piston tops. AKA, "the blow torch" effect. The '03-'04 trucks had a wider spray angle and the different piston tops. You had a drawing a while back. The wider spray angle with the different tops didn't concentrate the heat like what happens in the later versions. Plus, I don't think the tuner Gods really focused on this short version of the CR's. It was here, then gone almost as fast. This time of year...........like on my trips to MO............if I'm not bucking a strong straight headwind or a quartering into me headwind or driving thru the river valleys; I see EGT's between 500-600* driving through the pancake land of central Illinois running 65-68mph. I like to see a stock truck do those numbers.

2 Stroke and the Common Rail
I've noticed that Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 stinks a whole lot more than the WallyWorld SuperTech I used to run. I do have a bit of weepage on my MotorGuard, so I'm sure that helps the smell though. Just need a new O-ring for the MG. I usually replace them when they start to leak.................usually 8-12 or so months. The rubber gets hard and compresses over time.JMHO here; but ULSD with 2 stroke added smells a lot more like LSD did.

Tire Update
Guys, I've got just under 8000 miles on the AT3's now. No appreciable signs of wear. They're much quieter on the road vs. the ATR's. They track better than the ATR's running on the interstate also. I've done a couple 1000 mile round trips with them in the last month; and have another 500 mile round trip scheduled for this Sunday................gotta return the "female dog" to her owner that I bred my "male dog" to. The site wouldn't let me use the proper word......._____!!!!:doh:I've not seen a mileage drop either because of the new tires...........even with the slightly more aggressive tread pattern. Could be the mild winter also. The little bit of snow we've had this year...........much, much better than the ATR's.Just my:2cents:

This^^^^^ Jim is right on. I only gave the tone wheel mod info because someone asked. The Smarty can do that for you without getting your hands dirty and scraped up. I run my Smarty Revo almost exclusively on SW5 default setting. Give good power boost and keeps the EGT's very cool..........cooler than a stock truck. I drive like a old fart also!!
-
Diys?
Once you have the tone wheel off your truck............it's the sprocket looking wheel behind the damper.................orient it so that the indexing hole is at 12:00. While looking at it with the hole at 12:00, you want to file out the left side of the hole about 1/8 inch to start. You can file it out enough to where the wheel won't advance any more because you're against the bolts!! Like mine. But I would suggest to do it in small increments. Put it back on the truck, and since you filed out the left side of the indexing hole, you'll be able to rotate the wheel clockwise so the indexing pin is now in bottoming out in the enlarged left side of the indexing hole in the wheel.Be careful putting the damper back on and tightening the 4 bolts back up, as you my move the wheel back counter clockwise. This little mod usually increases "low end" throttle response. Mileage may or may not increase.

Oil Smell
Dang, if I sure don't miss the 24v 2nd gen sound. My '99 was a 3" straight pipe. It was obnoxious loud............but I do miss it. The 3rd gen quiet is nice also............probably moreso. Just reminiscing here...............sorry!!! --- Update to the previous post... I've also noticed that since I've gone to Valvoline Premium Blue Diesel oil, that I have a much more noticeable "oil smell" in my truck vs. the WallyWorld SuperTech that I ran for almost 4 years!!!!

Lanyards for hitch pins...
I would think most boat shops/marinas would still carry that. I'm lucky here where I live. I can always find stainless fasteners/fittings/etc. because I live in the Chain-O-Lakes area in northern Illinois.
-
Oil Smell
100% normal. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen engines have open crankcase venting. Seeing you have a 2nd gen, do a search here for Mikes vent mod so you don't end up with an oily radiator/intercooler. A hot oil type smell is normal. Some oils "stink" more than others.

It Begins
Mike; it's not gonna be "jammed" in the opening you see.. The hole in the wall you see from the existing unit will be reframed, insulated, sheetrocked and cemented boarded over for my stove install. The floor will get essentially the same treatment. My future stove will sit on a hearth with a back wall surround essentially in front of what you're looking at now. The chimney pipe will be exiting the room vertically from the stove. I guess I wasn't clear on that before. For sure now I have to wait for the weather to break. There's no more screws to take out from the inside!!!!! Once the weather breaks, I'm gonna tear into the chase that's in the garage, so I can remove the fireplace unit. A couple more pix without the glass doors and refractory panels in the box.....................don't know why they're funky colored though??!!

Auto High Idle?
Negatory AH64ID...........Mighty Whitey has had the automagic "high idle" operational since new. That includes pre Edge Juice w/Attutude, and pre Smarty. I wonder if it doesn't have something to do where the trucks were sold??? For example; North of a certain latitude, they programmed it into the ECM. I dunno........some of this has not "rhyme or reason" to it!!!!

It Begins
I started the demo of the POS ZC fireplace in my house last week Friday. Didn't work Friday because of the 10+ inches of snow Thursday PM and early Friday AM. Here's some pix. There was some real fine Polish-American engineering done in this install!!!
