  1. The water softener does just that, prevents hard water buildup. Its a friggin' losing battle, I tell ya... There are products out there that you can install, but I do not have any off the top of my head. Best thing is get a good cleaning product that cleans the buildup. CLR is a good one, IIRC.
  2. Yea, I read it a little more and they were blaming this on the oil fields... Then I read some more stuff and found out that it was what your speaking of... I've got a neat little filter setup that I'm gonna start running when funds allow, as I have to build it!
  3. 3 gallons is what I ordered. 12 quarts of oil. I had half of a 1 gallon container left after the initial change. I ordered in gallon container size as its cheaper to buy that way... Point is, I had to add the 2 quarts of oil after that many miles. So I suppose in essence, when the crank capacity and oil filter is 11 quarts, I'm really only looking at adding 1 quart in total after the amount of said miles. Which would still put me at about 2 quarts accordingly over the life of an 7500 mile oil change. I dunno if 2 quarts over that many miles is good or not. I'm just comparing it to how much I had to add over the life of a change with the DELO oil. Ha, and if I can per UOA, I will get every bit of mileage out of the oil they say I can!
  4. I found the articles about the real estate deal: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-12-24/mortgage-applications-down-66-highs-new-13-year-low https://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/look-out-below-home-sales-plunge-biggest-drop-in-40-months_10282013
  5. Alright, someone please tell me this is about normal? I switched to Amsoil on my last oil change. I'm now about 4300 miles into it, and I checked the oil level recently before I went down to see my parents for christmas. Its a good thing I checked! The level was below the add mark and I had 2 quarts left of this liquid gold to add back into the safe area. I noticed the oil pressure gauge showed a little bit longer of a delay in building pressure on initial startup and pressure was a little lower than normal. Nothing that raised a red flag, but now I know why it was so. I have noticed since the change that the blowby vapor looks as though it has increased and there is some more oil "condensating" on the differential from the breather. As well, using more than 2 quarts up in approximately 4300 miles. Is this a sign of a failing engine? I was running DELO 400LE before the switch and maybe added a quart or so during the life of an oil change(7500 miles). ..believe you me, I can't pull my 5th wheel with a couple mules!
  6. That would almost seem obvious with that much draw!?
  7. I hope this does not derail this from the original intent of this thread, but I have noticed a couple things which should tell me about some of what is going on... 1. EGT's seem to be around 700, 800 at times driving on flat road with no wind or other factors to cause excessive resistance. This is during the cold, around 20-30's. The egt temp. occurs at about 40-45mph. Going 60, EGT's are around 800 cruising. 2. Boost pressures at 60mph, are around 10psi with the same above external factors. I'm basically getting around 4-500 miles per TANK. I know my fuel gauge is off on its reading by about 2-3 gallons consistently, and I have not factored this in when adding 2-stroke. I'm speculating that the ratio is a little high and is helping reduce mileage. I have "purged" the tank of excess oil by running an occassional tank of diesel without any 2-stroke. Does not seem to make a big difference though. Seems like before, I could cruise 60 down the road with the egt's around 6-700 in OD. Taking the TDR article into account, I did some experimenting the other day and I turned OD off when cruising, it went from around 700 in EGT's to about 500 when going about 40-45. Being in 4th reducing my gear ratio, my rpms went up to that sweet spot in the engine and the load is reduced. Its hard to accept this concept, as I was always taught that the less RPM's an engine has, the better the mileage... But as we see, that sweet spot is best for reducing the fuel consumption. Which now reminds me, I've got some acronyms to add, Mike!
  8. ALSO, I have not read Mikes article on MPG's in a while, buuuut, genos garage has a TDR article on MPG's and I think its very useful. http://www.genosgarage.com/GenosGarageTechArticles/TDRBG_FuelEconomy.pdf

  10. It your going to keep seeing those temps, run #1...
  11. I have seen more than one argument over CO detectors and their placement... Its kind of humorous at times. ALSO: http://abcnews.go.com/US/ice-storm-power-outages-lead-carbon-monoxide-deaths/story?id=21341326 http://www.firstalert.com/faqs/co-alarm/is-carbon-monoxide-heavier-than-air-what-is-the-diffusion-of-carbon-monoxide-in-air
  12. Yea... gravity does take a toll...
  13. I run 285/75/16's on mine and when I first got the truck it did pretty good on mileage. I was getting about 18-20 before my injectors pooped on me. Ever since I replaced my injectors, the mileage dropped. Then after I got to pulling the trailer it really dipped on me. I'm not talking about during pulling, but even empty. I usually get 16 if I'm lucky now. After pulling the trailer, I was getting 12 MPG! Its come back up since then little by little but has not gotten any better than 16 on avg. now... I have no idea why this is. I was almost considering something like diff. fluids being burned out on me or something. It just does not make any sense why it would act this way. Killer, I think you need to do a little investigating into the problem rather than just get rid of it... What are you going to do? Sell it any buy another cummins? Then what problems will you have to deal with?
  14. Sell it? How could you SAY such a thing?!
  15. You don't even need to drive around with it if you don't want... I had a performance product place here locally do it for me and he loaded it and then took it off. It enabled it. Although, ever since then, my lift pump will no longer prime like it used to. It only primes for just maybe a quarter of a second? It still helps me audibly verify that the LP works, but bugs me it does not prime longer...
  16. How big of a crack does it need to be to have such a problem? I've got a cracked exh. manifold...
  17. HAHA! Well, it does not sound like your weight affects you too bad... Not alot of people can say they go out and hike in the mountains hunting. Indeed, we are a rare breed. I dunno if you truly are overweight like you say... Obviously there are different medical things to classify you as such as body fat % and BMI, etc. If you are looking to lose some weight and getting back into that class again that your looking for and not wanting to do it with just exercise, look into a juicing fast. Believe me when I say it, I love eating meat and all the "Macro" foods there is. But after watching: http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/ I could not believe the transformation! Since then, I have gone a little different route from what he does. I supplement my diet as such with a daily juicing every morning. I use a Nutri Bullet instead of an actual juice extractor. I think its better to get the fiber, etc. from the whole food instead of just the juice! It may not be your type of thing, but if you watch the documentary, it may just change your mind! Thanks, Mike! I just may end up doing it. I know I'm going to need to bounce my experiences off of someone knowledgable as I go along. I was considering registering at beesource.com. I've already got my PPE, and smoker, hive working tools, etc. I just need to get my hives built and order the bees!
  18. Now, my question is, will he be back?
  19. Yeah, I don't want to be a bubble burster, but IMHO, I do not the real estate is anything where it is at. I'm surprised people are still trying to pursue being a realtor! I cannot for the moment find the article, but it said that applications for a new home are at some stupid low... I don't want to turn you off to it or anything, but just telling you what I have seen and think... I dunno how you feel, but I take a big interest in honey bees. They are needed very badly all over the world and people are paying good money to beekeepers that can do pollination contracts. From what I read recently, Canada needs bees really bad. I'm hoping to get my feet wet this spring with some bees and see if its something I can make out of it...
  20. Weird noises have always been a hard thing to figure out. Especially since your description and actually hearing it will be different. Especially since there is no way for you to isolate it through a recording for us. The only thing I can suggest, is to take a bar, or anything long with a tip at the end. They even make this as a specialty tool. Begin placing it at different points of the engine and put your ear on the other end. The sound should be translated through the medium to your ear and you should hear what your looking for. This can really isolate the noise to the area. They make what is called a mechanics stethoscope. Heck, I think a local parts store should carry one for $10...
  21. http://www.vulcanperformance.com/Modified-liberty-fuel-module-p/fmds.htm ^Like this? I had to do the mod entailed in the instructions with my 165. It involved modding the existing fuel basket, but this looks similar. I dunno if this one offered on VP is modded the same way as described in my instructions, though. I know AD told me to drill a couple holes in the fuel basket to allow more fuel to reach the draw straw, etc. You should not be sucking air with the basket unless the basket is not allowing enough fuel. Which MIGHT be possible since the original basket design was only rated for the OEM lift pump. I do not know the flow volume of the OEM pump. The key to this might be the fact that it occurs at your 1/4 tank mark. I would fill the truck up again and see if it persists when it gets to the 1/4 tank level. If that is the case, despite having this basket, it may not be allowing enough fuel into the basket. Which then you would just need to drill some holes into it to allow more fuel.
  22. I have heard from a few different sources naming the statue of liberty as a symbol of the great harlot, etc. Also Great babylon being named after the port city in NY. Alot of things can be used to name one place or another and people as the epicenter of prophecy or someone as THE anti-christ. I understand the infatuation of finding the answer to such things and how we as watchmen need to stay sober. But I feel as though not enough time has quite passed yet to put a finger on some things. I have even read about people telling the American public to flee America as it is the place referred to by Jesus when he says to, "come out of her, my people". Point is, there is NO where to flee! We are in this world, we will not be removed from it until the time is right and the prophecies are fulfilled at the right moment. This whole earth is going to be appointed to judgement. We are not going to escape whats coming. IMHO, for those who are saved individuals, if we are appointed to be here during the time of tribulation, we will end up falling into a couple categories: 1. Martyr 2. one who was able to flee to the mountains and go to a place that was prepared for them by the Lord. The idea of weather manipulation and/or using the earth to be a weapon such as using an earthquake to bring on Martial Law and carry out their final plans is interesting. Maybe a little too over the top for my taste. I know there is a facility named HAARP in Alaska. I know what they say they use it for. But like all these things, when it starts to fall into conspiracy theory, the truth can become obscured quickly. Now, I'm not a naysayer of anything. I can be just as "quacky" as the next guy about things, but in anything, I always take it all with a grain of salt. I add it to my knowledge of things, set it back and if the day arises it comes to fruition, I know how to react from there... I don't count on this happening, but there is always a chance I'm wrong. I know the ultimate goal that is to be acheived, one way or another. I remember when the group ANONYMOUS released a warning for a couple buildings in the LA area not too long ago because they saw some red-flags. They gave a timetable for it to be carried out. It even coincided with a local DHS, FEMA drill, IIRC. It did not happen. The drill they conducted with the power recently, the concern over that and what that could mean. All these have gone on and nothing came from it. I do not dismiss it, but I don't count on it. We have a battle to wage, to fight through the dis-information and seek truth.
  23. Haha, we have a saying here in the PNW. I'm sure it could be said in other areas as well. Usually it happens in the fall and spring most of the time for us. "Ahh, the PNW, four seasons in a day..."
