  1. Yep, I agree here too... If you are 'making' or requiring an extra 75 horse... there's no way your going to 'up' your economy. It takes something on the order of ~ 4 gallons per hour to make EACH additional 100 horsepower (continuously) .......which should be around 3 gallons EXTRA per hour to maintain your 75 horse increase. Sorry, but physics are physics. Now, I'll agree with Mikes explanation of how these new injectors will clean up via smaller droplet, (the faster injection time plus the finer droplet size) helps a little with efficiency with THAT INCREASE of fuel... but it's still an increase!! it's when you go back to 'cruise mode' is where the increase in mpg will be seen. For me, and just about any other 'boy' in here, keeping the foot out of it for the next oh, 10,000 miles or so, would take a herculean effort!!
  2. I wonder what happened 10 seconds after they stopped filming..... sitting at a stop light! Only a couple hundred feet from that Ford owner (already a mental case) that no doubt heard them say "that's what you get" .... Did he come after them on foot with a tire iron?
  3. Texas CTD you brought up a good point, with the broken bits. Cast iron with a good sharp bit drills pretty quick, and If you aren't paying attention, You'll be through before you know it. That's when the drill breaks... when the point hits the far wall inside the manifold.
  4. yep, cast shavings are magnetic.. And yes, there will be a little shavings during drilling, but a little more during the tapping. Most of them are chased OUT with the bit. Which direction is the hole going to be? horizontal or vertical I remember hearing about a guy who didn't want to take the chance of 'foreign bodying' his turbo, so he fired up the engine, and drilled it, and tapped while it was running. The pressure in the exhaust was thought to blow out the shavings back towards you... same with the tapping operation. I'd pack some heavy grease in the flutes of the cutter, that'll catch most debris.
  5. It's piled up, into big ricks. Some will be burnt in place, others will be kept there for windbreaks/rabbit/critter habitat. I'll get some pics of before/after/ work in progress shots This is eastern cedar, and it's really a junk tree. there is way more white than red in the trunk. Especially when they are this size. Shoot, they wouldn't make a good fence post. They rot pretty quick.
  6. I got no problem with the file mike, I've used them off and on for over 30 years... My short fall is keeping consistency in the length from cutter to cutter. It's a 'me' thing! .......Yes, Rancherman has faults. shhhh.... don't tell anyone! I'm in the middle of Part II of a three year contract to clear cut Eastern red cedar.. on 150 acres. March 22 is my last day to cut for the season (migratory birds on the way) I parked my beloved Stihl and bought 4 cheapo Poulan 3314 (ebay specials, 69.99 each) Dang things are perfect for de brushing: 8 pounds full of gas and oil. My 039 keeps my butt warm in the winter, It's a 'member' of MY family! These trees can range in size from 1 inch diameter, up to 18. Average is about 5-6. Been at this project for a tad over a week now, and been averaging 60-75 trees per hour... and no time to sharpen in the field.. I got a stack of chains I'm rotating through. I think there are about 40 loops in the rotation. Me and my son are cutting, My wife and daughter are pulling the 'carcasses' via 4 wheeler, and stacking (yep, we gotta pile em too) I'm starting to not like the smell of cedar!
  7. Is the juicer 'sticky'? I had a blender once that had a tight impeller.. probably from me not keeping it clean enough! Speaking of camping, generators.... I went with dad years ago, and we plugged in the ol 2 hole toaster. Popped in a couple slices of bread, popped the slide down and it killed the generator dead in its tracks! I thought it was hilarious, a sheetmetal appliance, no more than a couple pounds, stopping a 13hp Briggs cold! Shoot, we'd run water well pumps on that thing, deep freezer, refrigerator... (not at once)
  8. Thanks! Hey, we have Bomgaars around here. It's just like Fleet Farm, Tractor Supply, etc... They have the Timber Tuff stuff too. I think I saw them for 149 the other day... You've already saved me 20 bucks!
  9. Similar to Oregon.. about 159 bucks. Oregon 511AX about 320 bucks Anyone have an actual 'Oregon' 511, Originally was built by an outfit in Italy, but I been hearing they are all out of China these days. This is on my 'buy before next fall' list. Shoot, If the half price one is identical, why not?
  10. When was the last time you checked/replaced your fuel and air filter? Is it smoking when it's 'against the wall'
  11. I gotta admit, the smell and sound of a nitro 'buzz saw'.. running around 20k rpm is quite addicting! It was hard to believe a few years ago when the brushless motors started kicking butt!... I never thought in a million years electric motors would surpass the good ol glo plug days.. I love the simple 'on off' of electrical user friendliness.. I've heard of 3D helicopter stunts.. but I never expected it to be full on angry hornets!
  12. I got flamed on a Toyota site... some guy bought a used engine, and getting it home he popped off the valve cover... He was just wanting to do a compression test, on-the-ground.. before installing it into his truck. I only expressed my idea.. of the cam(s) being in the state they are... spinning the engine NOW is not a good idea! I'm no metallurgist,.. but can anyone else see a problem here? Just about everyone on that site said...."Just fill it up with clean oil, and run it!".... Cripes. The OP was only concerned with the 'milkshake' that is evident on the cam hold down bolts!!!! What happened to common sense?
  13. so, when I copy/paste the url, does that embed in here? or did Mike/someone do it for me?
  14. Check out this RC heli, I forgot how to embed a video in here, (hint hint) so here is the link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HxhL_fF9Fg&feature=share_email All I know, is the 'toy' heli's I got the kids over the years sure don't react anywhere near the way this one does! Thank goodness.. I'd have a bunch of cut-to-ribbons fingers, arms legs.... dogs cats.. you name it!
  15. I wonder how hot it got. I've seen a blown head gasket turn the coolant dark.. but this is waaaay beyond that!
  16. I agree with mntom. bubbles of air will have the same pressure as the fluid.. gauge will read the same My '73 Plymouth with a transplanted 383 runs about 75 psi at idle. I have the semi clear oil line feeding back to the gauge... It's solid oil when the engine is running, but shut it off, and there are gaps in the oil the full length of the line.
  17. oh man, you must've seen me a few years ago!... I had 2 loops around a compressed coil, jacked up the car, and pulled the spring out. I just kinda set it off to the side. I heard this 'boing-oing'.... half hour later I found it in the tall grass. Good thing I wasn't in a buiding...
  18. I've used wire to loop around the 'next roller' up from the link to be disconnected. Both sides of the disconnect link. Then twist the wire to draw the chain together, relieving pressure I'll bet it's a pretty large chain.. #80? or bigger? a channel lock pump plier works too, If you have enough hands!
  19. bigiron is a no reserve, no buyer premium site. http://www.bigiron.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?bigiron17/127312 link to the truck listing Last day to bid is March 26. No doubt it'll be at least double what it is now. I could never figure why some sites 'tax' (or charge the fees to a person.... who are the high bidders ) After all, the buyers ARE the one's who showed up with cash in hand! Around here, winning bidders get a big 'thank-you'! Not a 'oh, btw, we need another 6%'
  20. lol, stroll, meander,... yah, gravity is on my side these days.. Although, 'gravity' is not my wife's friend!. geezers.... did I just say that??
  21. I frequent this site to see if there is something I just gotta have... and this 1998 2500 caught my eye. Current bid is 4000.. No. I'm not interested, but I was searching 'flatbeds' and this caught my eye! seems a little odd placement of fuel pressure gauge?? supposed to have a fass, ats 3 piece exhaust, ats transmission, and firestone air bags.. then I seen this: My guess is this onboard air compressor is for air bags, and that gauge on the corner of the cab is for the air supply?
  22. just found this, congrats on making it to 61! My wife had hers yesterday too..... she is now only 52 ahem, last night, I almost made it to 4 hours!!
  23. You were fortunate to get that suspect injector out! I've had coked up injectors that were absolutely mortared-in-place Hopefully the sealing surface is intact!
