To Go With A Smarty Or Not

there's a reason why the butt dyno likes them.

Yeah, because Smarty and TQ management makes the launching feel stronger. Yeah, the down low power is way better but the upper end power is not as great. Still can only do as much as CANBus will allow which is roughly 60-65 HP. This where a wire tap module does way better allowing to power way more on the upper end (120-180 HP). Since Smarty is always going to be limited to 60-65 HP range very limited on fuel and timing controls in my imnd its not worth the price.

$685 for Smarty for 65 HP. That's $10.53 per HP

$599 for Edge Comp for 120 HP. That's $4.99 per HP.

$1,149 For Edge Juice for 150 HP. That's $7.66 per HP.

$742 for Quadzilla for 180 HP. That's $4.12 per HP

Quadzilla provides way more power, more functions, and way less price.

This is a half truth. You have a nearly stock truck with stock injectors. Until you add a set please stop pushing this or add in the necessary details so people can make an educated decision on that product.

Why are you making it out to be a bad thing that i am publishing the fact that i am able to run their tuning with low smoke levels? Sure i could add that i have stock injectors but in my experimenting with the S03 i can smoke like a train with my stock injectors when tweaking stuff the wrong way...so tuning is more of the issue then injector setup thus far on my truck.

Point is, if you plan to stay can-bus fueling (no wire tap) then your choices are pretty limited with the S03 giving some customization options vs. an EZ/other flash tuner.  My combo goal is rv275's, an upgraded HX35 and S03 which meets my needs but sure for all out bang/buck wire tap is the path to take.

Different strokes, which is fine.  I wish I could lend you a Quad to data log what your current settings are actually doing in terms of fueling and timing.

The data logs I have seen we interesting.  Not something I would want, but again different strokes.  @CSM has some good tuning done on his smarty also, I might have to throw my Quad on his truck and see whats going on.

We should do that.  Someday.

What didnt you like?  The tunes are alittle antique compared to the quad but seem better drive ability then the external boxes.

I'm all for getting a quad to learn what the truck was doing but would have a hard time returning it. Btw i have both android and apple devices so....

The data logs I pulled from the smarty on mpg mode showed that canbus fueling was nearly %100 based on throttle input.  Ie it would make the truck go to max fueling offidle, which in my mind is nutso.  Timing was also stupid aggressive, i would have to look at the log but timing was never below 16-17* which is awful high for sub 1500 driving. There's a reason why they say no towing on lvl 1.

Based on the smoke output, when I ran a smarty, and the data logs from other levels the s03 default tuning seems to be geared towards butt dyno feel, vastly overfueling down low.  It may feel good but from what I have seen it is not a great way to do things.  Stock injectors hide this some but by 7 x .009s really made a mess of things on low levels of the smarty.

Now the Revo settings I am not sure on, I can't have Tyler data logging 24 /7 as we have better things to do.

Another thing I don't like is the way Mads marketed the S03 back when.  Lots of talk about not changing timing a ton etc, when this is clearly untrue.

Consider that OEM timing likes to sit near 11* under load and you can see the smarty really does add a ton of timing.

Apparently I did not make it clear enough what my issue was. Your truck is stock on fueling other than the smarty. The lack of any bigger injector is a large factor in how that "tuning" behaves. I ran a smarty with a larger set of injectors (7x.010s) and a fairly quick spooling turbo (he351cw)......it smoked like a train. I have no problems with anyone sharing their experiences.....but lets include all the necessary details with the post.

@CSM  Did you ever get around to figuring out what Revo settings you are running?

Your truck was not a coal train until beyond  ~%60 at low speeds.  I would be curious to look at the revo stuff and see what settings did that.  Since you have 7 x.0095's it is useful to know.
