Contacting Previous Owners

So I bought my 2nd Gen from a dealer in Arizona. When fabricating some interior parts I discovered 2 receipts from the previous owner. 1 had a last name, the other had a town. I googled it and found the address in no time. I asked my wife what she thought about me sending a self addressed stamped envelope to them with some questions about the truck. She said that was completely not ok. What is the general consensus on that?

The old owner might be interested in what you've done to it let alone what he's done to it. I don't see what the problem is asking.  If new owners not interested he simply won't reply.  no harm no foul

I figured I would have one of the papers in the envelope say, "Please leave me alone and do not attempt to contact me ever again."

 

Reason I want to know so bad, is that my truck had better power than all 50 of the other 2nd Gens I tested. I also noticed a new trans under it. I would hate to spec a trans thinking it would be an upgrade, only to find out that I already had better.

Before I sent anything I would  keep digging on the internet first.  The guy probably posted a bunch of pictures on Facebook of his new vehicle that he bought and the reason why he traded it.

I cant see the harm asking. I would with someone asking me. You are giving them an out and they could just ignore you. Pretty harmless in my opinion.

It would be cool to know about the truck. It was babied. It is from a tiny area North of Missoula.

I contacted a previous owner of a truck i was test driving. Found a speeding ticket in the glove box and found a phone number to one of his family members. They gave me his number and i called him. I also saw a previous owner of my 2012 truck on a computer at dodge. I wrote down his name and found him on facebook. Creeper maybe, but nobody was hurt and i found out a few things about some trucks.

Hey it's a Truck and he is a Guy.  I see no problem in asking.  All he can say is leave me alone.

Looks like its time to pull the reciepts out of my truck file and send that letter.

From what I found without being too weird stalker, he probably isnt a Facebook/forum kind of guy.

I went in and had the dealer pull the record on it right away. I bought it at 105k miles. It had the lift pump and Inj pump changed at 88k. Yeah me. They had no record of the trans being done. It was obviously a newly rebuilt trans. I called all the trans shops within a couple hundred miles of his place, there was no record of the VIN. at any of them.

I'd contact him, if it was me. After i got my truck I called po several times, and later figured out he didn't know much and left him alone. After some time all the questions I had I ended up figuring out anyway,  now looking back what I was asking him was not a big deal anyway. But in your case it's would be nice to know what's up with transmission.

I forgot but when I sold my 2012, I had notes of everything I did with dates and mileage and actually put my name and number in the owners manual. New owner called me up and thanked me against and again for all the notes.
