What's everyone's EGT temps?

Was doing some research yesterday evening as I try to do on these trucks and realized that I put my EGT probe in the wrong spot. I installed it post turbo and from what I read last night they need to pre turbo to get an accurate reading. I researched this before I order my gauges as I've done before and I have no idea how I missed it. I know some can go post turbo but I want an accurate reading. I don't think I have gotten to hot seeing as how I only touch 1000* once before (hadn't towed heavy with it yet and I don't have a programmer.) I read somewhere that running it post turbo you lose about 300* on your gauge. If that's true I prolly wont be in a rush to change it but if it aint I need to do it pretty quickly. Normally I run about 300*-400* idle and riding at 60 mph may 600*-700*.

Just plug it with one of these and have it tack welded (if you need for piece of mind) http://secure.chassisshop.com/partdetail/993301/ Then retap the manifold carefully with a tap piece and some grease ......... and your good to go. No problems after turbo - you just have less of a reference point (from other members knowing what temps you should be running) and your also further from the exhaust with a turbine inbetween .......... so some say less accurate :thumbup2:

I drilled mine post turbo as well. I ran this way for about a week and I couldn't get it above 1100*.

As you can see from this picture, I used a pipe plug and a partial piece of a union that I cut off for a locking ring.

The issue with a post-turbo probe is the variance from a pre-turbo probe varies. It may be 0° at idle (cooled down), or 400° towing, and anywhere in-between depending on exhaust flow and workload. So the 700° you saw cruising may have been 750-800° pre-turbo and not bad, but the 1000° could have been anywhere from 1250-1400° and could be bad.

Well I just made a run down to Payette TVM hauling 6,200# of scrap metal. My EGT's on this trip ran about 600-800*F. Then climbing over Midvale Grade (6% grade) I dropped into 4th Gear held it at 55 MPH over the top and it hovered right at 1,100*F the whole way over the grade. Barely got to 205*F worth of coolant temp.

Remember:

Edge Comp set to Kill (5x5)

RV275 Injectors

Stock HX35W Turbo

Straight Pipe 3" Exhaust

BHAF

Wonderful to arrive at Payette, ID TVM and see 14.2 MPG... (Bonus) :woot:

Sorry hadn't been on over the weekend worked a lot. My numbers were slightly less today than what I posted earlier. It was probably 8-10* cooler than normal. I do think I will be moving it up to Pre-turbo to get an accurate reading.
