Teardown and Rebuild

I had to settle for 3rd gen wheels.

Yea those are all over CL up here. Fortunately I don't NEED new rims, it'd just be nice to get up to 17s and at the same time get down in tire size, so I guess I'll just have to be patient lol!

  • 3 weeks later...

Got a Seth Farrell stage 3 pump put on a week or two ago. The difference is nothing short of amazing.

I made sure the timing was "perfect" using a screwdriver on the piston and a dial gauge to make sure it was at TDC.

The new pump was pinned at 18* BTDC, so that's where I've got it set.

I'll post the pump specs later, but I think it flows 440cc's max and is set around 370 or so.

I'll throw up some pictures later as well.

6x0.013 injectors are ordered from Infinite Performane. Hopefully that'll clear up the skip around idle.

After those are done, lift pump, pressure regulator, cam tappets, etc. are coming!

Put some timing in it.....

I don't see a point in playing with it before getting injectors....

It does seem to run pretty hot right now with the gate open, so I've got it shut.

Weston advised changing the primary housing to a 1.1 AR. Thoughts?

The burn is happening in the exhaust vs. the cylinder. Why I like timing.

He didn't suggest the 1.15?

He said it's made by borg now and not machined from a different housing, so I'm thinking it's actually the 1.15. I am having trouble finding it though. This is the only place I can find it. Look at the very bottom of the page.

Why would they recommend a tighter housing on the primary?  Isn't that just going to raise EGT's and drive pressure?

There are lots of variables but altitude, intended use, and rpm range all have effects on primary sizing.

Not necessarily. It could get the primary into a better place on the map.

5k + elevation

Towing, DDing, Going fast at the track.

Never over 4K rpm.

I'll just have to get a gauge in it and see what the pressures are now and we'll see if it's worth it to buy another housing.

The idea is to get shaft speed to rise faster. Faster pressure rise = moar powah faster. With a trade off in top end but as Tyler said not a big deal.

Gotcha.  I remember when Tyler went to the 1.32 housing from his old, really small one (.9?) and loved the difference.  Figured that was the end of it lol.  Forgot it was Tyler.  The tinkering never stops...

Yeah.... get that low end torque and see if I can rip this trans in half. I swear if it does it's getting a built auto.

It was an 83 exhaust wheel with a 1.1 housing. Should have just run it as a single haha.

No the tinkering doesn't. Just wait until cam time....

Got my breather tubes re-routed after blowing oil all over the camper and having to scrub it for an hour.

Now they have a 100% downhill slope and face almost straight downward at the outlet. Seems to have stopped oil from getting all over the truck and trailer.

Also got the AFC to quit leaking. The bolts Seth provided were a touch too long and bottomed out before getting tight.

Hopefully my car will get totaled soon, then the truck can go in for body / paint work.

It's crazy how much damage that hail storm did. They were just starting to take down all the insurance tents this last week around Lakewood. I hope that you get everything straightend out with the truck and your car.

I just want the car totaled. I'm tired of dealing with it haha.

The truck shouldn't be bad. PDR on the roof, fenders, doors, and bed. New paint on the front fender and a new hood.

Maybe a cowl hood coming.....

Setting the timing correctly

Ripped shift boot. These things are made of paper thin rubber!

Fixed.

I think I got the breather issue fixed tonight. I ran the two coming off of the tappet cover at a 45* angle upward and towards the front of the motor. They then loop over the filter housing, across the top of the firewall, and straight down. I took it out and worked it pretty hard with 65+ boost and flexed the pyro gauge. The ends of the hoses weren't even wet, it didn't drip at all idling for 2 min, and there was no residue under the truck like there has been. Hopefully this'll solve my problems with it spewing all over the undercarriage, side of the truck, tailgate, and whatever trailer I have behind it.  (It'll look much better when I get a real fuel system too)

Oh I got a new AFC Live installed tonight too. I'll have to do some driving / towing to make sure everything is fixed properly though.
