Some how I’ve made 189K miles on the stock pump, but know I’m on borrowed time. So, I’m trying to decide between a Fuel Boss or Airdog 2 4g 165 lift pump. I can see benefits for both and would appreciate some insight. My truck is currently stock and don’t see heavy modifications. I do haul with it: stock, boats and wood. Currently it’s my main rig and mostly just getting around. Thanks, JT

My 98.5 auto bogs when the TCC locks up at light throttle. With OD off it locks up at 35mph, otherwise it locks up at 50mph. However my speedo is roughly 5mph fast compared to actual, so subtract those readings by 5. After running custom tunes off this board, it seems like timing of 17/20/25/28 on the Quadzilla makes more lowend torque than my previous timing of 16/19/24/26, and when the TCC locks up its not as prone to bogging and shaking the entire truck to bits. I am confident I have no boost leaks based on the great off idle torque my truck makes, and the supreme lack of smoke (also thanks to going back to a stock stall torque converter). This …

So work just let me know i need to go overseas for a job. I might be gone for 3 weeks or up to 15 months. what have you guys done to keep these trucks to maintain them in storage. already plan on unplugging the batteries and putting them on a battery tender, putting it on jacks to attempt to save the tires since they are only 4 months old now. Figured put some desiccant and rat poison in the cab also. what do you recommend for the fuel, Fill it all the way up or run till almost empty?

This is very long winded, but I figured it would save a bit on questions in the comments, plus I tend to ramble. I’m not sure if this is the right place for this or not, if it is not I will be happy to move it. In late 2018 I bought a 2002 3500 with an NV5600 more out of necessity than want(wrecked mine and had to leave for a job) it had 160xxx on the clock. A few scratches here and there nothing crazy. It drove decent typical 2nd gen problems that I knew of non existent dash top, ac was questionable , small but noticeable oil drip. The money was right 10k I bought it. Now I’ve always been a Powerstroke guy not a Cummins fan. So I knew little and less a…

Ok this is where I stand and I cant figure out where I lost some much mileage out of my truck. Where I first bought my truck in 2005 with 70k on the clock, I was getting around 20-21 mpg. Now it seem like I am lucky to get 16 or 17 with 165k on the clock. The only thing that I have done to truck is cut the muffer and soot trap out of it at first. Then about 3 or 4 months ago I put a BHAF on the truck. I havent really change my driving style other I am driving slower now and I switched from running lucas to running standadyne fuel treatment. I did replace my clutch about 3 months ago months from a single disc to a dual, also I did change my lift pump about 4 years ago to a…

Thought I would ask the masses out there what would be the best route to take on my truck if all I am looking for is long term reliability, with enough horsepower to pull a camp trailer over a hill. Not interested in burning the tires off, or doing wheelies. Just want to put the modifications on that will give me the best bang for my buck in terms of mileage and performance. I started on the 2 cycle oil, and know I need to get a fuel pressure gauge to go along with my idiot light. Don't know anything about the Edge or tuning packages that you guys use, but want to make sure that I don't buy myself a headache trying to get a few more horsepower. Only had the truck for 6 mo…

Hello everyone,, So I've been toying with the idea of getting a 5.9L for a while. My preference is to get something prior to 2003, simply because I like the body style. The tradeoff, however, is most of these trucks are well into the 200k range. One I am looking at in particular has 278xxx on the odometer, with a tranny rebuild at approximately 275k. I know that the Cummins is the "million mile motor," but is it a risky proposition to jump in at almost 300k? Would I be better off saving my pennies for a truck with lower miles? Thanks!!!

My truck has unfortunately had periods when I was unable to use it. (Multiple Sclerosis can do that.) Anyrate, although the truck seemed to drive ok and had plenty of power... even towed the trailer considerable distances... the mpg has been falling off serously. This has gone on for a couple of years and the truck has been through numerous state inspections, various mechanics & dealership. (The dealership said "no codes, nothing to fix!") The answer was found by accident at the most recent state inspection (a different mechanic) checked the front end and found the wheels would barely turn. The cause was two fold... the brake pads themselves were delaminatin…

i have been chasing a problem on my truck for a while now and it has cost me alot of money. i have noticed a difference in my truck for a while now and have replaced just about everything. my truck does not seem to have the same umff it use to have. my throttle does not have that load on it like it use to have. it does not pull hard like it use to. my boost numbers are lower(47 max with wastegate hose plugged). i use to be able to hit 58. its a combination of everything and it is driving me nuts. here is a list of stuff i have replaced: vp44, timbo apps, neighbors whole tps, map sensor, iat sensor, trans sensor, no boost leaks, 3 different injector sets, swapped out diffe…

I heard a horrible noise when I depressed the brake pedal and then realized the steering and brake power assist were basically nonexistent. After reviewing the situation and knowing the power steering has been getting worse over time I ordered the Gould Vac pump kit and all new lines for p/s pump. I did not pull the trigger on a p/s pump yet because I was hoping to find something more robust or with higher assist compared to my current stock 170k unit. I thought about ordering a Borgeson but then heard some negative reviews regarding installation? Do you guys have any suggestions ? My truck is a daily street /play minimal tow use currently vehicle. I have never been pleas…

Driving home today and my fuel pressure went to zero instantly. Been noticing fluctuations in pressure. Changed FF and WS a month or so ago and had same issue. Going to check it out tomorrow. Have also had an issue with losing pressure at half tank. Think the draw straw may have an issue so I plan on lifting the bed. Is it better to tip it from the cab end, leaving bolts loose in rear or tip it from driver's side leaving bolts loose in passenger side? Don't have help available to fully remove bed and tank was filled 40 miles ago so don't want to remove it.

So I am planning on doing a little work to my truck and I am looking for input if I forgot something, or have a half-baked idea. :cookoo:I have a 4" exhaust brake and I am looking to upgrade my stock truck with the following:- Super B twin turbo- Exhaust manifold- 5" Exhaust with the brake on it- 150 CPP injectors- I think I am going to go with an edge chip, not sure about the quad- Propane injection- Head studs- Southbend clutch- Upgraded lift pumpNow my first goal will be to get the turbos on, my old turbo is not long for the world (lots of play and oil is leaking from it). I should be fairly straight forward, off with the old on with the new.Parts needed:- Head studs- …

Ok I've gone and done it. Since good Ol' @MoparMom passed away. I've now gone and pull my muffler back off the truck and went back to straight piped exhaust again. 4 inch diamond eye, without a muffler will talk to the neighborhood rather well if you deep in the throttle. Now once you reach cruise state its not bad at all. I was shocked at the amount of soot loaded up in the muffler it was like tipping the muffler and bang it once on the ground was like watching black powder fall out pretty good amount too for single tap. All the muffler can was loaded with carbon.

Just trying to track down the issue efficiently, if anybody has a good/better/best place to start. Did a boost leak test last week, found a few leaks, tightened some clamps, leaks gone. Threaded in a new boost elbow. Before, with leaks, I was seeing about 18-19psi max. Now I can’t get to 10psi. Set screw is turned all the way in. Bleed orifice does seem to be constantly bleeding air, but I’m not sure if that’s by design or not. It’s the adjustable boost elbow from DAP.
